Atelier du Mas shows how a tiny house can put sleeping, dining, cooking, storage and bathing on one level instead of using an elevated sleeping mezzanine. Plume Habitat designed the 3.5 m-tall house for a couple’s holiday stay, where the builder says a loft was not needed.
Why Atelier du Mas has no sleeping loft
Plume Habitat developed Atelier du Mas for the Pépiite hospitality network after Marie, host at Mas des Écoliers near Châteaurenard and Avignon, sought additional high-end holiday accommodation in a lighter structure. The brief called for a house that would sit comfortably in a garden of Mediterranean plants, with restrained electricity consumption and an integrated photovoltaic system. A large atelier-style window was included to connect the interior with the garden and its views. Plume Habitat’s project page describes the house as single-level and explains that a couple’s stay did not require sleeping at height.

The builder reports an exterior height of 3.5 m for this house, compared with 4.2 m for its usual mezzanine-equipped mini-houses. Those are Plume Habitat’s figures for this project and its typical design, not a universal height comparison for tiny houses.
How the main-level layout fits daily activities
Rather than separating functions vertically, the layout places the 160 cm bed, raised dining shelf, two-person seat, kitchen and bathroom on the same level. A breakfast counter can also serve as a work surface, according to Homecrux’s October 5, 2026 feature. The builder lists integrated storage in the seat and beneath the bed; Homecrux also reports drawers under the bed and in a bench.

- Eating and working: a raised dining shelf and two-person seat with integrated storage; the counter also offers a surface for breakfast or work.
- Cooking: a two-burner gas hob, 90 L refrigerator, 45 L built-in oven, black single-bowl sink and pan drawers.
- Bathing: a bathroom reached through a sliding door, with an 80 × 80 cm shower with glazed door, basin and mechanized Ecodomeo dry toilet.
Plume Habitat does not publish a floor plan or total floor area on the project page, so the exact circulation widths and usable floor area cannot be assessed from the available specifications. In a single-level plan, the practical trade-off is that sleeping does not require climbing, while every activity must fit within the same compact footprint.
Materials and construction
The house uses a spruce frame with recycled cotton-wool insulation. Its braked double-axle chassis is hot-dip galvanized steel, and the exterior is clad in French thermally treated poplar. Inside, Plume Habitat specifies maritime pine plywood walls and ceiling, a vitrified solid spruce floor and semi-solid spruce fittings. The roof is anthracite sinus-profile steel; the windows are anthracite double-glazed aluminum.

The bathroom combines a waxed-concrete wall finish with an LVT floor. The builder lists multilayer plumbing with crimped fittings and copper, and an electrical network using Legrand and Schneider components.

Plume Habitat lists a 1200 W photovoltaic system, a 230 V hybrid inverter and Victron lithium batteries. Heating equipment comprises a 1500 W electric radiator and a 3 kW wood stove; hot water comes from a 40 L electric water heater. These are equipment specifications, not evidence of the house’s measured energy use or operating autonomy. The project page does not publish monitored consumption or performance results, nor does it identify exact models for the listed kitchen appliances or the stove.

What this design is—and is not—evidence of
Atelier du Mas is a purpose-built holiday accommodation for a couple, not a demonstration that all tiny houses work best without lofts. The design makes a clear choice: keep the sleeping area on the main level and fit the other functions around it. Whether that works for another household depends on its occupancy, how long people stay, storage needs and preferences for separation between sleeping and living areas. The sources do not provide measurements that would support ranking this house against other designs.
The project page identifies Plume Habitat as the builder and says the house was designed for the Pépiite network. It directs guests to Pépiite or Mas des Écoliers for stays and invites prospective clients to contact Plume Habitat about custom projects.
