Which display is the better fit?
Choose the OnePlus 12 for listed resolution
OnePlus describes the 12’s display as 2K and 120Hz. That gives it the advantage in listed resolution, which may appeal if fine detail is your priority. The specifications alone do not establish which screen looks better in person.
Choose the OnePlus 15R for maximum refresh rate
The 15R lists a 6.83-inch FHD+ panel with a maximum refresh rate of 165Hz. OnePlus says 144Hz and 165Hz are available only in specified apps, so that top figure should not be read as the refresh rate available everywhere. Its listed maximum is higher than the 12’s 120Hz, but the panel has lower listed resolution.

How do their chipsets and configurations compare?
The 15R lists Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, 12GB LPDDR5X Ultra RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. The OnePlus 12 launched with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and configurations up to 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB UFS 4.0 storage. The listed processors are different generations, while the memory and storage details describe different configurations. No comparative benchmark results are established here, so these figures do not prove a performance or gaming winner.
What do the battery and charging numbers mean?
OnePlus lists typical capacities of 7400mAh for the 15R and 5400mAh for the 12. Those figures describe battery capacity, not how long either phone lasts in a particular person’s use. No independent comparative endurance test is established here.

The 12’s announced wired rate was 100W, or 80W in North America; its wireless AIRVOOC rate was 50W. OnePlus lists 55W SUPERVOOC for the 15R and up to 80W with a named OnePlus adapter. Confirm local phone specifications and adapter compatibility rather than assuming the same rate applies in every region.

What camera trade-off should you consider?
The OnePlus 12 has a 3x periscope telephoto camera in its launch specification. The OnePlus 15R’s US specification page identifies a 50MP main camera and an 8MP ultra-wide camera but does not identify a telephoto module. If optical telephoto reach matters, the 12 has the clearer documented advantage in this comparison. The listed megapixel counts do not by themselves establish overall photo quality.

How to compare the price difference fairly
A reliable price gap needs two current prices from the same country, for comparable storage configurations, checked at the same time. The available evidence does not establish such a pair, so naming a dollar or percentage difference would be misleading.
- Choose your country and the exact RAM and storage configuration you would buy.
- Check current prices from local sellers for both models, noting whether each is in stock.
- Record the retailer, configuration, price, and date. Treat discounts, trade-ins, and other offers separately from the standard listed price.
- Compare the resulting gap with the features you will use: display resolution, refresh rate, telephoto camera, wireless charging, battery capacity, and wired charging.
The OnePlus 12 was announced on January 23, 2024. That launch date is not evidence of present availability or today’s price. The available information does not establish the 15R’s official launch date or current stock, either.

Who should choose each phone?
The OnePlus 12 may suit you if
- You prioritize its listed 2K display resolution over a higher maximum refresh rate.
- You want the documented 3x periscope telephoto camera.
- You want wireless charging and have confirmed local AIRVOOC compatibility.
- A current local offer makes its feature set worthwhile for your needs.
The OnePlus 15R may suit you if
- You prioritize the newer chipset generation listed by OnePlus, without treating that as a measured performance result.
- You value a higher listed maximum refresh rate, while accounting for the app limitation.
- You prioritize the larger stated battery capacity, while recognizing it is not an endurance test.
- You do not require a telephoto camera or wireless charging.
Neither phone is the universal winner on specifications alone. Compare their current local prices for matching configurations, then decide whether the 12’s display, camera and wireless charging or the 15R’s listed chipset, refresh rate and battery capacity better justify the difference.
