Those figures are part of a 433 MW increase planned across three Vistra sites, including Beaver Valley in Pennsylvania. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced a conditional commitment of up to $4.2 billion on October 5, 2026; it is not a completed or funded loan.
How much additional capacity is planned at Ohio’s plants?
Vistra’s July 2026 investor presentation lists these planned Ohio capacity increases:

| Plant | Location | Planned capacity increase |
|---|---|---|
| Davis-Besse | Ohio | 80 MW |
| Perry | Ohio | 213 MW |
| Ohio total | Ohio | 293 MW |
| Beaver Valley | Pennsylvania | Not stated by plant in the cited DOE announcement |
| All three announced sites | Ohio and Pennsylvania | 433 MW |
The Ohio figures are company projections, not measured output gains. DOE’s 433 MW figure covers Davis-Besse, Perry, and Beaver Valley together; the cited DOE announcement does not give a plant-specific increase for Beaver Valley. The 293 MW Ohio total is the sum of Vistra’s stated 80 MW and 213 MW uprates.

What the capacity figures do—and do not—mean
An uprate increases a plant’s generating capacity; it does not mean that the plant’s total output will rise by that amount every hour. Actual generation varies with operations and other conditions. Vistra lists Perry at 1,268 MW and Davis-Besse at 908 MW, while DOE says the projects are expected to preserve nearly 4 gigawatts (GW) of existing baseload capacity across the participating facilities. Preserving existing capacity is distinct from adding the projected 433 MW.

The plan is to upgrade existing reactors, not build new ones. DOE says the projects would produce more electricity from existing plants without new transmission corridors or equivalent new generation resources; that is the department’s projection, not an independently established project outcome. DOE also projects nearly 3,000 project-related jobs.
Is the DOE financing approved and funded?
No. On October 5, 2026, DOE announced a conditional commitment of up to $4.2 billion to Vistra. Before definitive financing documents can be signed and funds provided, Vistra must meet technical, legal, environmental, and financial conditions. The announcement does not specify final interest rate, maturity, draw schedule, or how the amount would be divided among the sites. It is described as a loan, not a grant.

Vistra says its 20-year agreements with Meta cover existing generation as well as planned uprates. The company says electricity from the facilities will continue to flow to the grid, so the agreement does not mean the plants’ electricity goes exclusively to Meta or that the federal commitment is a loan to Meta.

Vistra’s announced commercial timeline says purchases are expected to begin in late 2026, with the full 2,609 MW available by 2034. That total combines 2,176 MW of existing generation and 433 MW of planned uprates. The timeline is company guidance; the cited announcement does not provide individual dates for the Davis-Besse and Perry additions.

DOE says the projects are intended to support plant operation for an additional 20 years beyond existing licenses. In its January 2026 announcement, Vistra gave then-current license end dates of 2037 for Davis-Besse and 2046 for Perry and said it planned to pursue subsequent license renewals. Those later renewals should not be treated as already granted. The cited materials do not establish individual construction milestones or when each Ohio uprate would enter service.

- RTR Version Stirling Engine Model: No need to assemble, unpack the engine model and get ready to see the wonders of science. Comes with a USB LED lights for you to DIY and experience more fun. This is a very interesting and imaginative toy! It can be used for teaching physics, great to display basic principles of a Stirling engine and to show the art of design.
- Good Look Stirling Engine Mode: The bottom of the model is made of high-quality steel, and the bracket is made of aluminum alloy. The bottom of the bracket is wide, stable and solid, exquisite. Due to the heat of alcohol, the engine will run wildly and generate electricity. The power supply will pass through the wire and drive the LED light. Sturdy and durable metal components ensure long operation, enjoy physical powertrain mechanism display.
- Easy to Operate: Fill the alcohol burner with your 95% medical-alcohol (we recommend this fuel) and light it. Let the light burn the cylinder with the rounded ends for about 60 seconds, then gently push the wheel.
- Superior performance: The Stirling engine is equipped with an LED. As power will pass through the wire and turn on the LED light. When the model continues to rotate, the speed is high, the performance is stable, and the rotation can be maintained for a long time.
- Great Educational Tool: This is an amazing and wonderful Stirling Engine, which has a wide range of applications, such as science project, physics / mechanical learning, teacher presentation props in class, friends, family, parents birthday gifts, etc.
DOE Secretary of Energy Chris Wright framed the commitment as a way to get more power from existing nuclear plants and provide affordable, reliable, around-the-clock energy. That is the department’s rationale; the announcement does not establish future prices or reliability outcomes as completed results.
