It is a personal AI service built around a Personal Data Store that the company says the user controls. The pitch is that you choose which files the AI can read, switch access off when you want, and keep your data separate from the AI itself. Everything below about privacy and performance is EQUS’s own description. The launch materials include no independent audit.
What EQUS X is
EQUS X is a personal AI assistant paired with private storage. SiliconANGLE’s Kyt Dotson described it as an AI that reads from storage managed by the user, with file-by-file permission toggles. In the company’s framing, the data lives in your Personal Data Store and the AI consults it when you ask, rather than building and keeping its own profile of you.

How the privacy model is described
- Separation: EQUS’s product page says the data is kept separate from the AI. The AI reads it during inference, which is when you make a request.
- Encryption: the company says data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
- Training and sale: EQUS says it does not sell the data or use it to train models.
- Granular control: you decide what the AI can see, one input at a time. Revoking a permission ends the AI’s access to that file.
CEO Sandy Carter put it this way in the launch release: “We built EQUS X so that users can decide what the AI knows, one input at a time, and revoke information whenever they want. Your data is not our business.”

These are design claims. The sources do not say who holds the encryption keys. They do not say how revocation is enforced technically, or whether any third party has examined the system. The architecture is a meaningful distinction if it works as described, but nothing published so far confirms that it does.

The Daily Brief
The headline feature is a Daily Brief. EQUS describes it as assembling scheduled tasks and relevant updates from the data you have permitted. The launch release adds that connected accounts, such as mail and calendar, can feed it plans, open items, conflicts and things needing attention. The permission model presumably applies to those inputs as well, but the materials do not spell out how connected accounts fit into the file-level toggles.
Availability and pricing
Per SiliconANGLE on October 5, priority access was open, and general availability was expected later in October. The company release said EQUS X would be free through the end of 2026. These are launch-week statements. Check EQUS’s site for current signup status and what happens to pricing in 2027, which the materials do not say.

According to the release, it covers issuing, holding and verifying credentials for individuals, organizations and agents. It supports these standards:

Claims and endorsements to weigh
EQUS says it holds 14 granted patents and has nine pending, with three covering the Private Data Store itself. This is the company’s 2026 release figure, and it has not been checked against patent records.
R. “Ray” Wang of Constellation Research is quoted in that release: “Whoever owns the data owns the value personal AI creates. Treat personal data as a property right, require consent to use it, and ownership goes back to the people creating it.” It appears as part of the company’s announcement, so read it as supporting commentary and not a product evaluation.

Brian Silverman of The Business of AI Roadmap told SiliconANGLE after trying the beta: “What stood out in the EQUS X beta was how much control I had over my own AI context: what information I bring in, what the AI can see, and when it gets access.” That is one beta tester’s impression, not a test of security.

If you compare EQUS X with other personal AI products, these are the points that separate them:
Best Value
- Powered by a 47% faster processor, the next-gen dual-tweeter acoustic architecture produces detailed stereo separation while a 25% larger midwoofer deepens the bass.¹
- Place this speaker anywhere and everywhere you want to listen. The compact design fits beautifully on your bookshelf, kitchen counter, desk, or nightstand.
- Stream from all your favorite services over WiFi. Pair a Bluetooth device with the press of a button. Connect a turntable or other audio source using an auxiliary cable and the Sonos Line-In Adapter.²
- Go from unboxing to unbelievable sound in just a few minutes. Simply plug in the power cable, connect your phone or tablet to WiFi, and open the Sonos app.
- With a tap in the Sonos app, Trueplay tuning technology analyzes the unique acoustics of your space and optimizes the speaker’s EQ. So all your content sounds just the way it should.
- Where is the source data stored, and who can access it?
- Does the service keep a copied profile of you?
- Can access be limited per file or item?
- What happens to derived content after you revoke access?
- Is your data used for training?
- Which connected accounts and workflows are supported?
- What are the current price and availability?
EQUS’s answers to the first five, as stated so far, are your Personal Data Store, no separate profile, per-file toggles, access ends on revocation, and no training use. Independent verification of any of them is still to come.
