OD vs. P.T.: How Kojima’s New Horror Project Differs

Kojima’s OD is a separate project announced with Xbox Game Studios, not a confirmed P.T. remake or sequel. Here’s what is known—and what is still undisclosed.

OD is not confirmed to be a remake, sequel, or revival of P.T. The projects are linked in public discussion by Hideo Kojima and an experimental approach to horror, but the available announcements describe OD as a separate Kojima Productions project developed with Xbox Game Studios. Its stated aim is to test fear and blur the line between games and film; its story and gameplay remain undisclosed.

Are OD and P.T. the same project?

No direct connection has been confirmed. Kojima Productions announced OD with Xbox Game Studios in December 2023. P.T. is used as a point of comparison in secondary coverage, which describes it as a cancelled project and notes a psychological-horror resemblance. That comparison does not establish shared story, mechanics, rights, or development lineage. Windows Central’s coverage frames the similarity as one of tone, not proof that OD continues P.T.

That distinction matters because the available sources do not provide primary documentation for a full account of P.T.’s gameplay, release history, or availability. The strongest supported answer is therefore limited: OD and P.T. are separate reference points, and a more specific relationship has not been announced.

How do their horror ambitions compare?

OD’s stated aim

Kojima Productions describes OD as exploring “testing your fear threshold” and “what it means to OD on fear,” while blurring the boundaries of gaming and film. In the announcement, Kojima called it a challenge to create “a new form of media.” These are statements of creative ambition, not a description of particular gameplay systems. What the P.T. comparison can—and cannot—show

Windows Central has compared OD’s psychological-horror tone with P.T. Kojima was also quoted in an English translation saying, “As long as you watch the trailer, you may think it’s normal horror, but it’s still unprecedented.” That remark supports the idea that OD aims to depart from familiar horror conventions; it does not show that the two projects share mechanics or narrative. Who is making OD, and who was announced?

Kojima Productions announced OD as a project with Xbox Game Studios. The announcement named filmmaker Jordan Peele as one of several storytellers and identified Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier in lead roles at the time. Those credits do not explain the characters, the cast’s final structure, or how each collaborator’s contribution will work. Kojima Productions’ announcement

What is known about Xbox, cloud technology, and platforms?

Xbox announced its partnership with Kojima Productions in June 2022 for a game that would leverage cloud power. Kojima Productions later identified OD as the project associated with that partnership. The announcement described the intended technology context, but the available sources do not establish whether cloud functionality will be required or how it will affect play. They also do not establish a final platform list. Xbox Wire’s partnership announcement and Kojima Productions’ OD announcement

  • Lie system: P is made of a puppet's heart, but he learns how to think and feel like a human by lying
  • Legacy of the classics: The city of Krat, the characters, and even the smallest objects reflect our deepest admiration for the original tale of Pinocchio

What has Kojima said about OD’s development?

In an October 2026 report on Kojima’s Koji10 radio remarks, GamesRadar+ said shooting had resumed in June and would continue through year-end, with ADR work expected to continue into 2027. The report also quoted Kojima saying, “This time I don’t want to reveal much,” and, “this doesn’t mean we haven’t made the game. I want to keep quiet and release it.” These are reported remarks, not a newly published official production schedule. GamesRadar+’s October 2026 report

What remains unknown about OD?

The announcements and reporting cited here do not establish the details needed for a direct gameplay comparison with P.T. In particular, they leave these points open:

Rank #4
Gun - PlayStation 2
  • Blast away and watch the aftermath, shoot guns out of enemy hands, or destroy with dynamite.
  • Wage war on horseback, commandeer trains, protect prostitutes, collect bounties, play poker, hunt buffalo, and more
  • Embark on numerous side missions that allow you to master gun slinging and horse riding
  • Precision shooting, stealth tactics, use of explosives and missions that make you master gun slinging and horse riding
  • Authentic weapons including - Six shooters, shotguns, Gatling guns, flaming arrows, hatchets, dynamite, and more
  • OD’s release date and final platforms.
  • Its core mechanics, story, and how its horror will work in play.
  • Whether its narrative or development has any relationship to P.T.
  • Whether cloud technology is essential and what role it will play.
  • Pricing, physical editions, and retail availability.

Until Kojima Productions or Xbox provides those details, claims that OD is “the new P.T.” go beyond what has been confirmed. The grounded comparison is that both invite discussion of experimental horror, while OD’s announced identity and collaborators belong to a separately announced Kojima Productions project.
