Use an AI assistant to explain wallet features or help you prepare questions—not as a place to enter credentials or as proof that a payment request is legitimate. Keep passwords, PINs, one-time codes, full account numbers, and recovery links out of chats. Verify alerts and requests through your wallet or bank’s official app or independently obtained contact details, and review any permissions before connecting an assistant to an account.
What can an AI assistant safely do with a digital wallet?
A general-purpose assistant can help explain a wallet setting, summarize general safety advice, or draft questions for your bank. Keep the conversation general: describe the issue without including account-specific secrets or identifying information you would not share publicly.

Do not enter a wallet password, PIN, one-time password (OTP), full account number, recovery link, or other authentication secret into an AI chat. Google’s Ask Google Pay guidance explicitly says not to share passwords, PINs, or full account numbers with the feature. Google also says chats may be reviewed in some circumstances, including when users submit feedback, so do not assume a chat is private or never reviewed. Google’s Ask Google Pay guidance

Can an AI assistant make a payment for you?
Capabilities depend on the assistant and any connected services. Google says its Ask Google Pay feature cannot initiate or complete transactions on a user’s behalf; that limitation applies to this feature, not every AI product or integration. Google’s feature guidance
If an assistant or connected service offers to take an action, inspect exactly what it can access and what the confirmation screen authorizes. Never approve a payment, account change, or permission you do not understand, even if an assistant recommended it. For a service you use, consult its official permissions and transaction controls rather than assuming it works like Ask Google Pay.

How to secure the wallet, phone, and linked accounts
Require a screen lock
Set a screen lock that must be entered to unlock your phone. Google Wallet’s UK help guidance describes device encryption and recommends requiring a PIN, pattern, or password at startup. These details are specific to Google Wallet’s documented safeguards; check your wallet and device settings for the controls available to you. Google Wallet: Keep your payment info safe

Keep wallet and linked-account credentials private, and turn on multifactor authentication (MFA) for linked accounts where the provider offers it. MFA adds a second sign-in factor; the Federal Trade Commission lists a security key as one possible option. A physical key is only useful if your account provider supports it, so check supported sign-in methods before buying one. MFA can strengthen account access, but it cannot prevent someone from tricking you into approving a payment. FTC guidance on phishing and account protection

Use official apps and support routes
Install wallet apps from official app stores and use the app’s own Help or Support route to find assistance. Google Pay’s India guidance warns about harmful screen-sharing apps and untrusted support numbers. Do not install remote-access software, share a screen, or disclose credentials because a caller or message claims to be support. Google Pay India: Protect yourself against fraud and unauthorised activity
Understand provider-specific protections
Google says eligible cards in Google Wallet may use a virtual card number that replaces the underlying card number for certain transactions. This can reduce exposure of the actual number in those transactions; it is not a guarantee against fraud, total anonymity, or a feature available in every wallet. Continue checking transactions and use the card issuer’s controls. Google Wallet safety guidance

- ONE CARD PROTECTS YOUR WHOLE WALLET: Drop a single KF-Premium card into your wallet, purse, or card holder and every card sitting near it is shielded from contactless RFID and NFC scans, so you do not need a separate sleeve on each card. This 2-pack covers a second wallet, a passport holder, or a family member.
- ULTRA THIN AT 0.9MM, BARELY THERE: Each blocking card is only 0.9mm thick, about as slim as one of your bank cards, so it slides into any wallet slot without the bulk of foil sleeves or switching to a new wallet. Slim enough that you forget it is working.
- STOPS FRAUD BEFORE IT STARTS: The armoured shield design sends out an interfering counter-signal that blocks unauthorized RFID and NFC readers from skimming your debit cards, credit cards, and IDs. It guards against contactless payment fraud, identity theft, and digital pickpocketing in crowds, on transit, and while you travel.
- WORKS THE MOMENT IT IS IN YOUR WALLET: No batteries, no charging, no app, and nothing to switch on. Protection is automatic and continuous for the life of the card, and the durable, high-quality build holds up to daily wear in a back pocket or bag.
- A PRACTICAL GIFT THEY WILL ACTUALLY USE: The sleek black finish gives it a premium look that suits travelers, students, parents, and anyone who carries contactless cards. Boxed as a 2-pack, it works for birthdays, holidays, or a stocking filler that quietly protects the people you care about.
Google Pay’s India guidance also explains that a device screen lock and a separate UPI PIN protect account information and authorize transactions. In UPI, a PIN is not needed to receive money; entering it authorizes a payment. Do not share an OTP or UPI PIN. These details apply to UPI and Google Pay India, not all digital wallets or payment systems. Google Pay India fraud guidance

How to check a suspicious payment request or alert
Do not rely on an AI assistant to decide whether a message, caller, link, or account alert is genuine. A familiar voice, convincing image, or fluent answer is not proof of identity. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau warns that AI can help scammers clone voices and alter images to make it appear that someone you know needs help. - Stop Digital Theft Instantly: Protect your credit cards, debit cards, passports, and IDs with Cardian’s advanced smart NFC and RFID card blocking technology—keeping hackers and skimmers out of your wallet
Pause if someone pressures you to act immediately, impersonates a bank or government agency, asks for account access or codes, or directs you to an unusual payment method. Instead:
- Do not click the message’s link, call a number it provides, share a code, install software, or move money at the requester’s direction.
- Open your wallet or bank app yourself and check for the alert there. If you need help, use a contact method listed in the official app or obtained independently.
- If the request involves a family member or colleague, contact that person through a separate, trusted channel to confirm it.
- Ask the assistant only for general help understanding the situation; do not paste credentials, codes, or sensitive account details into the chat.

What to do if you spot an unauthorized transaction
Contact the wallet provider and the card issuer or bank promptly through their official channels. Google Wallet’s UK help page says to report suspected fraud or unauthorized activity within 120 days of the transaction date. That is the period stated on this Google Wallet help page, not a general legal deadline; report concerns as soon as you notice them and follow your provider’s instructions. Is Ask Google Pay available to everyone?
No broad availability should be assumed from the cited guidance: Ask Google Pay is described on Google’s India feature page as a limited rollout. Feature access and safeguards can vary by service, region, and account. For any wallet-and-assistant combination, check what information the assistant can access, whether it can initiate or approve transactions, what sign-in protections are required, and how to report fraud.
