Square Enix describes the Switch 2 edition as having improved resolution and frame rate compared with the original Switch version. Nintendo’s original Switch listing describes its Switch 2 compatibility as behavior consistent with Nintendo Switch. That should not be confused with the native Switch 2 edition’s stated resolution and frame-rate improvements.

Can you carry a Switch save into the Switch 2 edition?
No. Nintendo and Square Enix state that save data is incompatible between the Switch and Switch 2 versions. If you start the Switch 2 edition, do not expect to continue a save from the original Switch release. Nintendo’s Switch 2 listing
Is there a discounted upgrade for Switch owners?

Which version should you choose?
- Choose the Switch 2 edition if you want the edition with the publisher-stated resolution and frame-rate improvements and have Switch 2 hardware.
- Keep playing the original Switch version if you already own it and are comfortable with the original version’s presentation; Nintendo lists it as supported on Switch 2.
- Check the platform label before buying. The Switch 2 edition does not run on original Switch hardware, and the two editions do not share saves.

Nintendo’s US listing gives the Switch 2 release date as October 1, 2026, and lists one player, TV, tabletop, and handheld modes, an estimated 6.6 GB file size, and supported languages including American English. Square Enix lists English and Japanese audio. Its North American store listing showed the standard Switch 2 release from $59.99 on October 3, 2026; price and availability can change, so check the live listing for current details.
