For a 24/7 YouTube playlist of children’s learning videos, begin with OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard, then test a conservative resolution and frame rate against your actual upload connection. A sensible starting point for mostly static lessons is 720p30 or 1080p30, using YouTube’s recommended bitrate for the chosen codec, CBR, and a two-second keyframe interval. No setting guarantees an uninterrupted day-long broadcast: verify the stream with representative video and audio, plan for disconnections, and arrange a separate archive if you need a replay.
Recommended OBS settings to start with
These are starting points, not a universal India-wide preset. Your usable upload speed, computer, encoder, source footage, and normal network variation all matter. YouTube’s figures below are encoder recommendations; test that your connection can sustain the selected bitrate before relying on it.

| Output | H.264 recommended bitrate | H.265 or AV1 recommended bitrate | When to consider it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 8 Mbps | 6 Mbps | Lower bandwidth or a mostly static lesson playlist |
| 720p60 | 8 Mbps | 6 Mbps | Only if the source has motion that benefits from 60 fps and the encoder can handle it |
| 1080p30 | 14 Mbps | 10 Mbps | A practical higher-detail starting point if upload capacity is stable |
| 1080p60 | 17 Mbps | 12 Mbps | For 60 fps source material where smoother motion is useful and system and network capacity allow it |
These recommended values come from YouTube Help’s live encoder guidance, accessed in 2026. They are not a guarantee that a particular broadband connection can hold that rate continuously. YouTube supports H.264, H.265, and AV1, but which codecs you can select depends on your OBS build and available hardware encoder.
- Rate control: CBR (constant bitrate), as YouTube recommends.
- Keyframe interval: 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Frame rate: Start at 30 fps if the lessons are mostly static and the source is 30 fps or lower. Try 60 fps only when source motion benefits from it and your computer can encode reliably.
- Resolution: Match the output to the detail in the material and the connection you can sustain; lowering resolution is preferable to repeated drops or unstable delivery.
Set up OBS and YouTube step by step
- Run the wizard. In OBS, open Tools > Auto-Configuration Wizard and follow the prompts for streaming. OBS says the wizard takes hardware and network conditions into account; it does not certify that a setup will stay live for 24 hours.
- Build and inspect the playlist scene. Add the media source or sources used for the learning playlist. Confirm the intended files play, the audio meters move when sound should be present, and there is no unexpected silence or clipping. Test transitions or playlist behavior if your scene uses them.
- Connect the YouTube stream. In OBS, select the streaming service and server, then enter the stream key associated with the YouTube live stream. YouTube’s production guide says the key must match the stream. Keep it private: anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Set video output and frame rate. In OBS video settings, choose the output resolution and common FPS appropriate to the source and connection. Use the bitrate table above for the selected resolution, frame rate, and codec.
- Set encoder output. In OBS output settings, select an available supported encoder, set rate control to CBR, enter the matching bitrate, and set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. If the chosen codec is unavailable in your build or hardware, use a supported option and its corresponding YouTube recommendation.
- Run a real test before a long broadcast. Include representative moving video and audio, then check OBS’s output and YouTube’s stream health. YouTube recommends running an upload speed test and testing before you start. A brief test can catch configuration errors, but cannot prove long-term uptime.
- Enable reconnect as a recovery aid. OBS includes automatic reconnect among its advanced settings. Configure it for the stream, but do not treat reconnect as a guarantee that a 24/7 broadcast will need no supervision.
Make the audience setting accurate for children’s lessons
YouTube requires creators to set whether content is made for kids regardless of location. Its audience guidance specifically names preschool educational content as a factor. A playlist deliberately aimed at children is likely made for kids; decide based on the intended audience and content, rather than treating the setting as a way to optimize engagement. YouTube notes that its guidance is not legal advice.
#1 Best Overall
For a live stream designated made for kids, YouTube disables live chat, chat replay, Super Chat, comments on upcoming streams and archives, and reminder notifications. Personalized ads are disabled, though contextual ads may be shown. Do not plan the broadcast around chat moderation, donations through Super Chat, or personalized-ad revenue being available under that designation.
YouTube’s current live-stream eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified, must not have had live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. YouTube also warns about restrictions when 13–15-year-olds appear in a stream without a visibly accompanying adult. That rule concerns a child appearing or participating; it is distinct from whether prerecorded lessons are aimed at children.

Plan the archive separately from the live broadcast
A continuous 24/7 stream is not a dependable way to create a complete YouTube replay. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours may be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If viewers need a replay, arrange and verify a separate recording or archive workflow instead of assuming the YouTube archive will preserve the full broadcast. OBS has separate recording options, but continuous local recording uses storage and introduces its own reliability considerations.
Make sure you have the rights needed for both live transmission and any retained copy. YouTube’s production guidance instructs creators to ensure content clearances cover the livestream and its archive or VOD. Check video, music, images, and other material used in every playlist item.

Keep a 24/7 broadcast recoverable
- Use a measured upload rate with headroom for normal variation; do not select a bitrate just because a speed test briefly reaches it.
- Check stream health after going live and recheck it during operation. OBS reconnect is useful if the connection drops, but it is not a substitute for monitoring.
- Keep the stream key private and confirm it is the correct key before starting.
- Verify the playlist source and audio before leaving the broadcast unattended.
- If a full replay matters, confirm that a separate archive actually records and is retrievable.
The available guidance does not establish a guaranteed 24/7 OBS configuration or India-specific broadband, power, or legal requirements for continuous children’s broadcasts. A successful short test is useful, but it cannot establish that a local network and computer will remain available indefinitely.
Common problems and what to check
| Symptom | Likely check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube reports unstable or poor stream health | The upload connection may not sustain the selected bitrate consistently | Run an upload speed test, test under representative conditions, then reduce output resolution or bitrate and test again. |
| The stream fails to connect or reaches the wrong broadcast | Service, server, or stream key may be incorrect | Verify the selected YouTube service and server, and confirm that the OBS key matches the intended YouTube stream. Do not share the key. |
| Video stutters or OBS struggles to encode | Resolution, frame rate, or codec may exceed the computer’s capacity | Try 30 fps instead of 60, reduce output resolution, or select an encoder supported by the available hardware; then test again. |
| The playlist is live but viewers hear no sound | The media source or audio routing may not be reaching the stream | Check the source’s playback and OBS audio meters during a test, then verify the stream’s audio on YouTube. |
| A long broadcast has no complete replay | YouTube may not capture streams exceeding 12 hours | Use a separately tested recording or archive workflow when a full replay is required. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is an always-on YouTube stream of uploaded lessons rather than learning to operate a local encoder, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload the video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It keeps looping from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price, with no re-encode or quality tiers, and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. It streams to YouTube only and plays uploaded videos rather than a live camera feed. Start the free day on StreamNeo.
