For YouTube over RTMP/RTMPS, use H.264 with CBR and a two-second keyframe interval; choose bitrate, resolution, and frame rate based on YouTube’s guidance and your measured connection, then test the complete setup before relying on it unattended. OBS can run the stream from your computer, but a 24/7 run is not guaranteed by any single preset.
Build a low-overhead scene for meditation
A still background does not need a video source. OBS recommends an Image Source for static image assets, and notes that simpler scenes can reduce resource use. Begin with one scene so there are fewer moving parts to troubleshoot.

- Create a scene: In the Scenes panel, add a scene for the meditation stream.
- Add the background: In Sources, select + → Image, choose the image file, and position or scale it to fill the canvas.
- Add audio: Add the audio source you intend to use, such as a media source or audio input, and confirm its level in the mixer. Use audio you have permission to stream; OBS settings do not establish whether a track is licensed.
- Check the composition: Preview the scene at the output resolution. Confirm that the image fills the frame and that no unintended desktop, camera, or other source is visible.
Run the OBS Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point. It considers the machine and network when making initial recommendations, but it cannot prove the setup will remain stable for an unattended day. Test the actual scene, audio, encoder, resolution, and bitrate on the computer and connection you plan to use.

Connect OBS to YouTube
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream.
- Select YouTube as the service, then configure the server and stream key for the YouTube broadcast. Treat the stream key as a password: do not publish or share it. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube before streaming again.
- In YouTube’s live-control workflow, create or select the broadcast and use its stream key and server details in OBS. Confirm that the intended broadcast is receiving the signal before making the stream public.
Choose an encoder and output format
For YouTube RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube’s encoder guidance supports H.264 and specifies constant bitrate (CBR). It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Set these in Settings → Output (use Advanced Output mode if needed to expose the relevant encoder controls). Your available encoder choices depend on the computer and operating system.

Hardware encoding can move work from the CPU to a specialized GPU component and often has low performance impact on modern hardware, but it is not available or appropriate on every system. Start with the wizard’s recommendation, then check OBS’s rendering and encoding performance during a sustained test rather than assuming one encoder is always best.
Match bitrate to both YouTube and your connection
YouTube’s current H.264 guidance, accessed October 4, 2026, lists these figures for the specific resolution and frame-rate combinations below. They are platform recommendations, not universal OBS presets or a promise that your internet connection can sustain the stream.

Measure stable upload capacity under conditions similar to the planned stream. OBS’s network troubleshooting guidance gives 75% of total upload speed as a starting point when diagnosing dropped frames; it is not a substitute for checking YouTube’s limits or for testing stability. A bitrate that exceeds either the reliable upload capacity or the platform’s ingest guidance can lead to trouble.

Pick resolution and frame rate for the actual program
There is no universal best resolution or frame rate for guided meditation in the cited guidance. A static visual does not, by itself, require a high frame rate. Choose a setting that your computer can encode continuously and your connection can deliver reliably, while considering how viewers will watch. If a modest output makes the connection more stable, that is generally more useful than a higher setting that repeatedly drops frames.

Test reliability before leaving OBS unattended
- Prefer wired networking: OBS recommends a wired connection because Wi-Fi may be unstable. Ethernet cannot eliminate ISP, routing, or other network problems, so monitor a test on the intended connection.
- Run an extended rehearsal: Use the exact scene, audio, encoder, resolution, and bitrate planned for the live run. Watch OBS’s dropped-frame counter and YouTube’s stream health rather than treating the wizard’s result as a guarantee.
- Prepare for reconnection: OBS has an automatic reconnect control. If the stream disconnects or drops frames, check the counter and upload stability, try another ingest server if available, and lower bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it.
- Treat dynamic bitrate as a fallback: OBS describes dynamic bitrate adjustment as a beta option in its network troubleshooting guidance. It may reduce quality; it does not fix an unstable underlying connection.
- Keep a local copy when the program matters: OBS recommends MKV for recordings because an ungraceful stop does not corrupt the entire file. YouTube also recommends keeping a local archive backup. Confirm that the computer has enough storage for the recording you intend to keep.
Plan around YouTube’s long-stream archive and DVR limits
A 24-hour YouTube stream is not a reliable way to guarantee a complete replay. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” YouTube also says rewind through DVR may be limited or unavailable on very long streams.
If a complete replay matters, plan shorter sessions or maintain and verify a local recording. Check YouTube’s behavior for your broadcast before promising viewers an archive. These limits refer to YouTube’s documentation; do not assume another streaming destination follows the same rules.

Troubleshoot dropped frames, disconnections, and missing replays
