Eligible creators can feature products from a connected store or promote products from participating retailers through YouTube Shopping. These tools help connect discovery with shopping, but a live stream alone does not guarantee more sales.
Choose how you will sell
YouTube Shopping has two main routes. Which one fits depends on whose products you feature and where orders and payments are handled. Availability, eligibility, and supported retailers can vary by account and location; check the current options in YouTube Studio.

| Sales route | What you feature | Eligibility and operations | Where to check results |
|---|---|---|---|
| Connected store | Your own products or merchandise from a supported store. | You need to meet YouTube Shopping eligibility and connect a supported store. YouTube names Shopify, Spring, and selected retailers or platforms among the options. The retailer or platform handles operations such as fulfilment, refunds, customer service, inventory, and creator payment; YouTube and AdSense are not the payment channel for these store transactions. | YouTube Analytics can show tagged-product engagement and product-page traffic. For detailed store revenue and orders, use the retailer or platform’s reporting. |
| YouTube Shopping Affiliate Program | Products from participating retailers and brands. | Eligibility includes YouTube Partner Program participation and a subscriber threshold, as well as channel, audience, and policy conditions. The program is listed for eligible creators in Argentina, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States, and Vietnam. Retailer and product availability can also vary. | Review tagged-product engagement in YouTube Analytics, and use retailer or program reporting to confirm qualifying purchases and commission. |
Affiliate commission varies by merchant and product. It can change between tagging and purchase; the applicable rate is the rate on the purchase date. Check the current terms rather than assuming a fixed percentage.

Connect your store or join the affiliate program
- Check eligibility in YouTube Studio. Confirm that Shopping is available for your channel and location. For the affiliate route, check the program’s current country, channel, and subscriber requirements.
- Set up the relevant sales path. For your own products, connect a supported store through YouTube Shopping. To feature other brands, join the YouTube Shopping Affiliate Program if your channel is eligible and select products from participating retailers.
- Confirm the details before promoting a product. Check that the item is available to the viewers you expect to reach, and review the current store or affiliate terms. Do not promise shipping, stock, price, or commission details you have not verified.
Plan a useful product-centered broadcast
- Choose a clear subject and demonstrate or explain the featured product in a way that helps viewers decide whether it suits them.
- Prepare a sensible product order that follows when items appear in the broadcast.
- Give viewers a clear instruction for finding the Shopping panel or product list. Explain the product in detail and make the next step easy to understand.
- Only feature products that are meaningfully connected to the stream’s subject and are presented safely. YouTube’s guidance says: “Tag products in your live stream if they are featured prominently, used safely, and are meaningfully related to your live stream’s subject matter.”
- If you are streaming from a phone, have a laptop or desktop ready to manage product tags and live chat. YouTube recommends having one available; it is not a required device model or specification.
Add, pin, and update product tags
- Before the broadcast: In YouTube Studio, open the stream’s Shopping or product-management controls and add relevant products. The exact controls may vary as YouTube updates Studio.
- During the broadcast: Pin a featured product when you discuss or demonstrate it. You can pin different products over the course of the stream; arrange the tagged items to follow their appearance.
- After the broadcast: Edit the product tags if needed. Products added after the live event can appear in the replay, subject to YouTube’s eligibility and content rules.
- Tell viewers where to look: Point them to the Shopping panel or product list, and describe what they will find there. Avoid implying a tag guarantees stock, delivery, or a particular price.
Check content, rights, and disclosure rules
Product tagging is conditional, and tags may not appear for some content. YouTube identifies restrictions that can include content made for kids, paid content, videos that are limited or ineligible for monetization, content blocked for ads, and content associated with claimed content or music partner channels. Channel eligibility, geography, shipping coverage, and YouTube’s policies can also affect whether products are visible.

- Crisp HD 720p/30 fps video calls with diagonal 55° field of view and auto light correction. Compatible with popular platforms including Skype and Zoom.
- The built-in noise-reducing mic makes sure your voice comes across clearly up to 1.5 meters away, even if you’re in busy surroundings.
- C270’s RightLight 2 feature adjusts to lighting conditions, producing brighter, contrasted images to help you look good in all your conference calls.
- The adjustable universal clip lets you attach the camera securely to your screen or laptop, or fold the clip and set the webcam on a shelf. You’re always ready for your next video call.
- Use only video, images, music, and other material for which you have the necessary rights. A music claim or other rights issue can affect monetization or product-tag visibility.
- Follow applicable paid-placement disclosure requirements when a brand has paid for or otherwise sponsored a promotion.
- Check whether products can be purchased and shipped in the markets you are addressing. A product appearing in your controls does not establish availability to every viewer.
Measure whether the stream led to sales
Treat YouTube’s product metrics as funnel indicators, not proof of completed orders. Product engagement and traffic to product pages show that viewers interacted with tagged items. Confirm orders, refunds, and net revenue in the connected store’s or retailer’s reporting.
- Review discovery signals: In YouTube Analytics, examine engagement with tagged products and traffic to product pages.
- Confirm commercial outcomes: Check the merchant, store platform, or relevant retailer reporting for completed paid orders, cancellations, refunds, and revenue.
- Compare against a useful baseline: Compare the event with a similar period or campaign, and account for other traffic sources, promotions, and changes in product availability.
- Use the result to improve the next stream: Identify which products viewers engaged with and whether that interest became orders. Adjust the product sequence, demonstration, or call to action accordingly.
There is no verified general conversion rate or sales lift attributable specifically to YouTube live streams in the available official guidance. YouTube reported 30 billion watch hours of shopping-related videos in 2023, and more than a 25% increase in watch time for videos that help people shop during 2023. The latter figure includes video on demand, Shorts, and live streams; neither figure isolates livestream sales or establishes that live shopping caused more purchases.

YouTube also cites a Google/Talk Shoppe survey in which 89% of surveyed viewers agreed that YouTube creators give recommendations they can trust. This was a U.S. survey of 2,000 adults aged 18–64 who watch video, fielded in August 2021. It describes survey responses, not purchase behavior or a current universal estimate.
