To loop one track in OBS, add a Media Source, choose the audio file, and enable Loop. To cycle through several tracks, use VLC Video with Loop Playlist enabled. If the music should continue while you switch visual scenes, leave Restart playback when source becomes active off for a Media Source and test the scene transitions before going live.
Choose the right OBS source

OBS Media Sources support audio formats including MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV, as well as video formats such as MP4, MOV, MKV, and WebM. OBS lists Media Source for Windows, macOS, and Linux. For VLC Video, match VLC’s architecture to OBS: the OBS documentation says 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. OBS Media Sources documentation

Loop a single track with Media Source
- In the scene where the audio should be available, add a Media Source and select the local audio file.
- Enable Loop. This repeats the file at the end of playback; it is not the control for what happens when the source becomes active.
- Decide whether the file should restart when the source becomes active. Leave Restart playback when source becomes active off when you want playback to continue through scene changes.
- Check which scenes contain or show the source, then preview the scene changes in your finished scene collection. OBS describes the restart behavior in relation to the source being in the current scene and visible, so verify that behavior in your own layout.
Loop a multi-track playlist with VLC Video
- Install VLC, ensuring its architecture matches OBS. The OBS documentation specifies 64-bit VLC for a 64-bit OBS installation.
- Add a VLC Video source and populate its playlist with the tracks you want to play.
- Enable Loop Playlist to repeat the playlist after it reaches the end.
- Enable Shuffle Playlist only if you want tracks to play in randomized order.
- Test scene visibility and transitions with the playlist running; configure its visibility behavior for the continuity you want.
These controls solve different problems: Loop repeats one file, Loop Playlist repeats a list, and the restart or visibility behavior affects playback when a source is activated or shown. OBS documents the source controls and supported formats.

Check the stream before broadcasting
- Choose a video quality and bitrate your upload connection can sustain. YouTube recommends running a speed test and leaving bandwidth headroom; its streaming tips advise keeping 20% of upload bandwidth available beyond the stream bitrate. YouTube streaming tips
- Set the encoder according to YouTube’s current guidance and the capabilities of your encoder and computer. YouTube recommends CBR, up to 60 fps, and a two-second keyframe interval (not exceeding four seconds). Its current Help table recommends a 5 Mbps video bitrate for H.264 at 1080p and 30 fps, and 128 Kbps stereo audio. - Run a test with audio and movement similar to the planned stream. Check the YouTube Live Control Room preview, confirm the stream is accessible, and monitor stream health and messages during the broadcast. YouTube streaming tips
- Listen to the loop and watch the scene transitions in the preview. Confirm the track does not restart unexpectedly and that the intended audio is present.
YouTube automatically transcodes streams into output formats for viewers, but that does not remove the need to send a stable stream at a quality your connection can sustain. YouTube’s encoder guidance

Confirm music rights before using a track
A file playing correctly in OBS does not mean you have permission to broadcast it. YouTube’s livestream terms say the content provider represents that it has the necessary rights to exploit live content, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants.
