If an OBS video plays once and stops, enable Loop in that source’s Properties. For a VLC Video source containing a playlist, enable Loop Playlist instead. The two controls apply to different source types. If you also want a clip to start from the beginning whenever its source becomes visible, turn on Restart playback when source becomes active; that setting does not replace looping.
Choose the repeat setting for your source

Loop a single video in a Media Source
- In OBS, find the scene containing the video and select its Media Source in the Sources list.
- Right-click the source and choose Properties.
- Enable Loop, then click OK.
- Let playback reach the end and confirm it starts again from the beginning.
Check the source actually used in the scene: a different Media Source can have its own properties, and changing one source does not change another.

- Select the VLC Video source that contains the playlist.
- Right-click it and open Properties.
- Enable Loop Playlist, then click OK.
- After the final playlist item finishes, check that playback returns to the start of the list.
Loop on a Media Source and Loop Playlist on a VLC Video source are separate controls; use the one belonging to the source type you have added.

Understand looping versus restarting on activation
Restart playback when source becomes active starts playback from the beginning when the source becomes visible or active in the current scene. It governs what happens when the source is activated, not whether an already-active source repeats after reaching the end.
For a video that should repeat continuously while the scene stays active, enable Loop as well. For example, a gaming rerun clip can restart when you switch back to its scene and continue looping while that scene remains active.

If the video still stops after one play
- Verify the source type and its matching setting. Use Loop for Media Source or Loop Playlist for VLC Video. Confirm the setting is enabled on the source present in the scene.
- Check whether the source is inactive between plays. If Close file when inactive is enabled, OBS unloads the file when the source is hidden or off the current scene. Review that option in the source’s Properties if the problem occurs after it has been inactive.
- Test without rapid automation. If a script or controller hides and shows the source at the exact moment the video ends, add a pause before toggling it and test again. A 2024 OBS issue report describes a narrow hide/show-at-playback-end case; it is not evidence that ordinary scene changes generally break looping: OBS issue report.
A separate older issue report described an inactive looping source configured with both restart-on-activation and close-file-when-inactive; reselecting the file was reported as a workaround. It concerned older OBS versions, so treat it as a historical, version-specific report rather than proof of a current general bug: historical OBS issue report.

Those details help narrow down the cause without assuming a setting or bug that has not been established.
