Whether it is overvalued cannot be answered from a single price-to-earnings ratio—or without a dated share price and clearly stated assumptions about future growth, margins, cash generation, competition, and risk. NVIDIA’s June 2024 stock split changed the number of shares and per-share price mechanically, not the company’s underlying value. Its filings identify business risks that can affect results and, in turn, the stock price.

The company went public on January 22, 1999, at an opening price of $12 per share, according to its investor FAQ. That historical IPO price is not directly comparable with a current quote without accounting for subsequent stock splits and other corporate actions.
Is NVIDIA stock overvalued?
There is no timeless yes-or-no answer. A valuation depends on the price an investor pays relative to expectations for future growth, profitability, cash generation, competition, and risk. No dated market quotation is established here, so an exact current share price, market capitalization, valuation multiple, or fair-value estimate would not be supported.
#1 Best Overall
To assess a valuation claim, check the date and source of the share price, then examine what the chosen measure actually compares. For example, a price-to-earnings ratio needs an earnings denominator with a stated period and basis: trailing or forward earnings, and GAAP or adjusted. Comparisons with other periods or companies are useful only when the calculations use consistent bases. A single multiple does not establish whether a stock is fairly valued.
What NVIDIA’s reported results show—and do not show
For the fiscal year ended January 25, 2026, NVIDIA reported revenue of $215.938 billion, up 65% year over year from $130.497 billion in FY2025. It reported GAAP gross margin of 71.1%, GAAP net income of $120.067 billion, and diluted EPS of $4.90. These are historical results reported by NVIDIA, not a forecast or a measure of what the shares should be worth. See the company’s FY2026 results release.
Keep guidance separate from results
In that FY2026 release, management gave fiscal Q1 2027 revenue guidance of $78.0 billion, plus or minus 2%, and said the outlook assumed no Data Center compute revenue from China. This was guidance at the time of the release, not an actual result or a current forecast; subsequent company reporting may supersede it. It also should not be read as a claim that every NVIDIA product is prohibited in China.

How did NVIDIA’s 10-for-1 stock split work?
NVIDIA’s 2024 split was 10-for-1. Shareholders of record at market close on June 6, 2024 received nine additional common shares for each share held, distributed after market close on June 7. The company’s FY2026 Form 10-K confirms the dates and notes that share, equity-award, and per-share amounts in that report were retrospectively adjusted for the split.
For illustration, one eligible share became ten shares. At the mechanical adjustment, the theoretical per-share price was divided by ten, all else equal. The split did not increase the holder’s proportional ownership or the company’s total equity value by itself. Trading prices can—and do—move after a split as buyers and sellers respond to information and market conditions.
Will NVIDIA split its stock again?
The latest split documented here is the June 2024 ten-for-one split; NVIDIA previously executed a four-for-one split on July 19, 2021. Those past actions do not establish whether or when another split will occur. A future split would require a company decision and announcement, and would not by itself make the business more valuable.
What are the main risks of investing in NVIDIA?
NVIDIA’s filings describe risks to its business and financial results. Those uncertainties can also affect the share price, but business risk and stock-price risk are not identical: a company may perform well while its shares fall, or vice versa. In its Form 10-Q for the quarter ended July 26, 2026, NVIDIA stated that owning its securities involves investment risks, including those described in its FY2026 annual report and the quarterly filing.

NVIDIA describes its markets as intensely competitive and subject to rapid technological change. The company says competitive factors include product performance and breadth, customer and partner access, distribution, software support, conformity with standards, manufacturing capability, processor pricing, and total system cost. Competitors, new technologies, or changing customer requirements can put pressure on demand, pricing, or margins.
Manufacturing concentration and product transitions
The FY2026 Form 10-K says NVIDIA’s supply chain is concentrated mainly in Asia and relies on third-party foundries and other manufacturers. Manufacturing lead times are long. If expected demand, product transitions, available capacity, or supply estimates do not align, the company may face inventory or cost changes, pressure on margins, or shifts in when revenue is recognized.
Rank #4
Demand, customer spending, and macroeconomic conditions
Demand for NVIDIA products depends in part on customer acceptance and spending, including investment in data-center infrastructure. Macroeconomic and geopolitical conditions and changing technical standards can alter that demand or the economics of serving it. These factors make future growth and margins uncertain even when recent reported results are strong.
Export controls and geography
NVIDIA’s FY2026 filing says export controls affecting GPUs and semiconductors associated with AI can restrict sales, disrupt distribution and supply chains, reduce demand, or benefit competitors outside the scope of restrictions. The FY2026 outlook’s assumption of no Data Center compute revenue from China was specific to that guidance. It should not be generalized into a claim that all NVIDIA products or every market are categorically prohibited.
NVIDIA’s Q2 FY2027 Form 10-Q says that, except for the updates it lists, it had no material changes to previously disclosed annual and quarterly risk factors. It also warns that any one risk could harm the business, results, or reputation and cause the share price to decline. Investors should consult the newest filings because disclosed risks and circumstances can change.
