Where to look for overstock and open-box deals
These retailers and marketplaces offer different kinds of discounted inventory. Availability and individual offers change, so the policy examples below are not guarantees for every item.

Best Buy Outlet: electronics and appliances
Best Buy Outlet is a straightforward place to compare open-box and clearance products in categories such as computers, televisions, and appliances. Treat the item’s condition as unit-specific: an open-box product may have been a return or display item, and manufacturer warranty coverage is not uniform. Because Best Buy excludes clearance and open-box items from its price-match guarantee, compare the final price with the same model elsewhere rather than expecting a price match.
eBay Certified Open Box: a defined program with listing-level details
eBay’s Certified Open Box description sets out a relatively specific baseline: like-new appearance with no wear, original accessories, and the stated one-year Allstate Protection Plans warranty, free shipping, and 30-day free returns. Packaging may not be original, and a product may be unsealed or a factory second. Check the listing itself for the exact item, seller, and any relevant product-specific details.

Woot: temporary offers where completeness and warranty matter
Woot’s open-box offers can include tested-working returns, photo samples, or items with damaged packaging. Read the offer page closely for missing nonessential components and warranty terms; a lower price may come with reduced coverage. Offers are temporary, and Woot’s general statement that most purchases can be returned within 30 days does not remove the need to confirm the terms for the current item.
Walmart Resold: compare the condition label with your needs
Walmart Resold uses labels spanning open box, pre-owned grades, new without box or tags, new with defects, and remanufactured. Those labels describe materially different purchase conditions, so do not treat the overall Resold designation as a single grade. Check the listing’s condition and return window, and contact the seller for warranty or product specifics.

How to compare an open-box deal before buying
Use the same checks for every listing. This makes the comparison about the particular item and its real cost, rather than a headline discount.
- Identify the condition. Establish whether the item is new overstock, an opened customer return, a display unit, refurbished, remanufactured, or simply sold with damaged packaging. “Open box” alone does not establish that a product is unused or complete.
- Confirm who is selling and supporting it. Check whether the retailer itself or a marketplace seller is responsible for fulfillment and support. For marketplace listings, read the seller details as well as the platform’s program terms.
- Check what is included. Look for missing accessories, manuals, packaging, or parts. If the listing is unclear, compare it with the manufacturer’s included-items list for that model.
- Verify the warranty for that unit. Find out who provides it, how long it lasts, and whether manufacturer coverage applies. Do not assume that a retailer’s general open-box policy guarantees manufacturer warranty coverage for every product.
- Read the return terms. Confirm the deadline, exclusions, return-shipping charges, and whether the item must go to a store or be shipped back. A return period is useful only if the item’s condition and return method work for you.
- Compare the delivered total. Add shipping and taxes, then compare the result with the current new price for the same model. A percentage-off label does not establish that the offer is a good deal.
Why the cheapest listing may not be the best deal
There is no stable, apples-to-apples discount comparison across these destinations: the inventory and individual listings change. A lower sticker price can also reflect a different condition, missing accessories, less warranty coverage, or more restrictive return terms. Compare the same model and account for those differences alongside the delivered price.
