Choose Mac Studio M5 Ultra if you need macOS and the option of up to 512GB of unified memory; choose an NVIDIA Spark system if its specific operating system, CUDA-based software stack, and supported model fit your workflow. There is no controlled, same-workload comparison here that establishes a universal speed winner. First, check the product name: NVIDIA RTX Spark and NVIDIA DGX Spark are different systems, and DGX Spark specifications should not be treated as RTX Spark results.
RTX Spark and DGX Spark are different products
NVIDIA’s guide describes RTX Spark as a Windows laptop or compact desktop line, with configurations described as having up to 128GB of unified memory. DGX Spark is a separate Linux desktop product, also described in the guide with up to 128GB of unified memory. The two product families have different form factors and software environments, so confirm which one you are considering before comparing a system or its price.

That distinction matters throughout this comparison. The hardware figures below for 273GB/s memory bandwidth, a 20-core Arm processor, and 6,144 CUDA cores are for DGX Spark—not RTX Spark. NVIDIA’s guide gives RTX Spark its own headline capacity claim, but the cited material does not establish an exact RTX Spark system configuration or provide a matched benchmark against Mac Studio.

Memory capacity determines what may fit in a system, but a parameter-count ceiling is not a promise that a model will run quickly or work with every runtime and context length. Quantization, model architecture, context size, concurrency, and software support all affect practical use.

| System or configuration | Memory information | Vendor-stated model capacity | What the figure establishes |
|---|---|---|---|
| NVIDIA RTX Spark family | Up to 128GB unified memory in NVIDIA’s guide | Up to 200 billion parameters in NVIDIA’s guide | Vendor capacity guidance for the product family; not a performance guarantee |
| NVIDIA DGX Spark, 64GB | 64GB unified memory | Up to 100-billion-parameter models, according to NVIDIA’s October 2, 2026 announcement | A vendor-stated capacity claim; partner availability was announced to begin October 23, 2026 |
| NVIDIA DGX Spark, 128GB | 128GB unified memory | Up to 200-billion-parameter inference, according to NVIDIA | A vendor-stated capacity claim, not a guarantee of speed or context length |
| Mac Studio with M5 Max | Up to 128GB unified memory | Not stated by Apple | Apple lists memory configurations, not a parameter-count ceiling |
| Mac Studio with M5 Ultra | Up to 512GB unified memory | Not stated by Apple | The largest listed memory configuration among the systems compared here |
For M5 Max, Apple lists 460GB/s bandwidth in the base specification and up to 614GB/s with a configurable 40-core GPU. For M5 Ultra, Apple lists up to 1.2TB/s. NVIDIA’s DGX Spark hardware guide lists 273GB/s for the 128GB system. These are vendor specifications for different products; they are not a matched inference test and do not, by themselves, show which system generates tokens faster.
NVIDIA also lists up to 1 petaFLOP at FP4 for DGX Spark. That is a stated peak AI-performance specification, not an LLM throughput result. NVIDIA’s product information describes DGX Spark as supporting inference up to 200 billion parameters and fine-tuning up to 70 billion; those are vendor claims, not independent measurements. See NVIDIA’s DGX Spark specifications and DGX Spark hardware overview.

Software, operating system, and workflow
Choose a Spark system when its NVIDIA stack is the fit
RTX Spark is positioned as a Windows system, while DGX Spark runs Linux and includes DGX OS. NVIDIA positions DGX Spark for model and agent prototyping and lists support for PyTorch and TensorRT-LLM. If your tools and deployment path depend on NVIDIA’s CUDA-centered ecosystem, confirm that the exact Spark model and software versions support the frameworks, model formats, and workflows you need.
NVIDIA describes DGX Spark as built to run “always-on agent workloads” from the desktop. That is product positioning, not independent evidence of speed, reliability, or suitability for every agent workload.

Choose Mac Studio when macOS or memory headroom is central
Mac Studio is an Apple-silicon macOS workstation. M5 Max configurations go up to 128GB of unified memory; M5 Ultra configurations go up to 512GB. Apple’s specifications also list Thunderbolt 5, HDMI 2.1, 10Gb Ethernet, and M5 Ultra storage configurations up to 16TB. These workstation capabilities may matter if the computer also needs to serve broader production or studio tasks, but they do not establish local-AI performance.
Apple’s technical specifications describe the hardware, not compatibility with every third-party local-AI runtime. Check that the runtime, model format, and any required acceleration features work on the macOS version and Mac configuration you plan to buy.

Which should you choose for local AI?
Pick Mac Studio M5 Ultra if
- You need macOS as part of your workstation environment.
- Your workloads benefit from the option of up to 512GB of unified memory, and the target software supports Apple silicon.
- You want a desktop that also provides the ports, storage options, and workstation features Apple lists for Mac Studio.
Pick an NVIDIA Spark system if
- Your target tools and workflow specifically fit the NVIDIA software stack.
- You have verified whether the system is RTX Spark (Windows) or DGX Spark (Linux), rather than assuming they share specifications.
- The exact system’s memory, model support, and runtime are sufficient for your intended inference, prototyping, or fine-tuning work.
Compare capacity to your actual model, not just its parameter count
Start with the model and runtime you intend to use. Check the model’s memory needs at your chosen quantization, the context length you require, whether you need to serve multiple requests at once, and which operating systems and acceleration paths the runtime supports. A vendor’s “up to” parameter figure should be treated as capacity guidance, not a promise that every model of that size will be usable at your desired speed or context.

The official specifications cited here do not provide a controlled RTX Spark-versus-Mac Studio test using the same model, quantization, context, runtime version, and concurrency. Nor should DGX Spark’s specifications be substituted for an RTX Spark benchmark. Memory bandwidth and peak AI-performance figures describe particular hardware characteristics; neither is a direct token-per-second comparison.

If speed is the deciding factor, look for a benchmark that names both exact configurations and controls the model, quantization, context length, runtime and software versions, and number of concurrent requests. Without those details, a headline result may not predict performance for your workload.
Quick Recap
Check these details before buying
- Identify the product. Confirm whether the listing is RTX Spark or DGX Spark and verify its operating system and exact hardware configuration.
- Match memory to the workload. Check the available memory against your model’s requirements at the intended quantization, context length, and concurrency.
- Verify software support. Confirm that your chosen local-AI runtime and model format support the system’s operating system and acceleration stack.
- Compare the actual configurations. Mac Studio memory depends on whether you select M5 Max or M5 Ultra; Spark family claims do not establish the precise hardware in every system.
- Confirm current price and availability. These depend on the exact configuration, seller, and date. NVIDIA’s October 2, 2026 announcement said 64GB DGX Spark systems from Acer, ASUS, Dell, Gigabyte, HP, and MSI would begin becoming available October 23, 2026; that announcement is not proof that a particular partner system is currently in stock.
