The desktop family includes seven models, from the RTX 2060 to the RTX 2080 Ti, with meaningful differences in memory and CUDA-core count. Those figures identify the reference designs—not every partner-made card—and they do not establish which model is fastest in a particular game today.
What is the NVIDIA 2000 Series?
NVIDIA’s official name is the GeForce RTX 20 Series. NVIDIA describes the family as graphics cards and laptops with dedicated ray-tracing and AI cores, and discusses features including RTX and DLSS. The family name covers both desktop and laptop products; laptop GPU configurations are not interchangeable with desktop cards.

For desktop buyers, the seven models in NVIDIA’s comparison are the RTX 2080 Ti, RTX 2080 SUPER, RTX 2080, RTX 2070 SUPER, RTX 2070, RTX 2060 SUPER, and RTX 2060. “SUPER” identifies a separate model in this lineup, not a specification that can be assumed from the base model name.

How do the desktop RTX 20-series models compare?
NVIDIA’s comparison gives the following reference or Founders Edition specifications. Partner cards may use different configurations; check the exact model before relying on these figures.
#1 Best Overall
- Chipset: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060
- Video Memory: 12GB GDDR6
- Memory Interface: 192-bit
- Output: DisplayPort x 3 (v1.4a) / HDMI 2.1 x 1.Avoid using unofficial software
- Digital maximum resolution: 7680 x 4320
| Desktop model | Reference memory | Reference CUDA cores |
|---|---|---|
| GeForce RTX 2080 Ti | 11 GB GDDR6 | 4,352 |
| GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER | 8 GB GDDR6 | 3,072 |
| GeForce RTX 2080 | 8 GB GDDR6 | 2,944 |
| GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER | 8 GB GDDR6 | 2,560 |
| GeForce RTX 2070 | 8 GB GDDR6 | 2,304 |
| GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER | 8 GB GDDR6 | 2,176 |
| GeForce RTX 2060 | 12 GB or 6 GB GDDR6 | 2,176 or 1,920 |
These are specification differences, not a current performance ranking. CUDA-core count and memory capacity alone cannot tell you the frame rate in a specific game or the speed of a particular workload. NVIDIA’s GeForce comparison page identifies its figures as Founders Edition or reference-card specifications; add-in-board manufacturers can vary the design.
Which RTX 20-series card should you buy?
There is no universally best choice established by the model names or reference specifications alone. For a used or remaining-stock card, compare the exact candidate cards against your intended games or applications, system fit, and purchase terms.

- AI Performance: 1899 AI TOPS.
- OC mode: 2790 MHz (OC mode)/ 2760 MHz (Default mode)
- Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4. Protective PCB coating guards against moisture, dust, and extreme temperatures
- Quad-fan design boosts air flow and pressure by up to 20%
- Patented vapor chamber with milled heatspreader for lower GPU temperatures
Start with the exact model and memory
Ask for the full manufacturer and model number, then verify the card’s actual VRAM capacity in the manufacturer’s documentation or listing. This is particularly important for the RTX 2060, which NVIDIA lists with either 12 GB or 6 GB and different CUDA-core counts. Do not infer a particular variant from “RTX 2060” alone.
Check physical fit and power requirements
Use the exact board-maker specifications to confirm card length and other dimensions, cooler design, and required PCIe power connectors. Check the manufacturer’s PSU guidance against your system configuration rather than applying one family-wide wattage rule. For example, NVIDIA’s 2019 RTX 2080 SUPER user guide specifies a minimum 650 W system power supply and one 6-pin plus one 8-pin PCIe supplementary power connector for that reference-card installation. That example is specific to the RTX 2080 SUPER guide; it is not a requirement for every RTX 20-series card.

- NVIDIA Ampere Streaming Multiprocessors: The all-new Ampere SM brings 2X the FP32 throughput and improved power efficiency.
- 2nd Generation RT Cores: Experience 2X the throughput of 1st gen RT Cores, plus concurrent RT and shading for a whole new level of ray-tracing performance.
- 3rd Generation Tensor Cores: Get up to 2X the throughput with structural sparsity and advanced AI algorithms such as DLSS. These cores deliver a massive boost in game performance and all-new AI capabilities.
- Axial-tech fan design features a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure.
- OC Mode : 1500 MHz (Boost Clock)/Default Mode : 1470 MHz (Boost Clock)
Assess the actual deal, not just the generation
- Look for dated, independent performance results that match your intended games or applications and the settings you plan to use.
- For a used card, establish its condition and test or return options before purchase.
- Check whether a warranty applies, who provides it, and whether it transfers to a second owner.
- Compare the current asking price with alternatives available to you; the family specifications do not establish current value or availability.
None of those listing-specific details can be inferred from the RTX 20 Series name. Confirm them with the seller, retailer, or card manufacturer.
What should you verify before installing one?
Before purchase or installation, identify the exact board and confirm its physical and electrical requirements from the maker’s documentation. A useful sequence is:

- Chipset: GeForce RTX 3050
- Boost Clock / Memory: 1492 MHz / 14 Gbps
- Video Memory: 6GB GDDR6
- Memory Interface: 96-bit
- Output: DisplayPort x 1 (v1.4a) / HDMI 2.1a x 2
- Identify the card: record the manufacturer and full model number, not just the GPU family name.
- Confirm the configuration: verify memory capacity and other model details against the manufacturer’s page or manual.
- Check case clearance: compare the card’s dimensions with available space in your case, accounting for nearby components.
- Check power compatibility: confirm the PSU recommendation and connector count for that exact card, then ensure the PSU has the required connectors and is appropriate for the whole system.
- Review purchase protection: establish condition, return terms, and any applicable warranty before committing.
NVIDIA provides a model-specific GeForce RTX 2060 user guide for installation context. For a partner-made card, use that manufacturer’s own manual and specifications as well as any relevant NVIDIA guidance.

What the model list does—and does not—tell you
The NVIDIA reference comparison is useful for distinguishing the desktop models and their listed memory and CUDA-core configurations. It is not a current benchmark, a price guide, or evidence that a particular used card is in good condition or available. Make a purchase decision using exact-card documentation and recent evidence for the work you care about.
