Notion publishes information about its security practices and workspace and web-sharing controls on its security and privacy page. That page does not establish an end-to-end-encryption model comparable to Anytype’s vendor-described user-held keys. Consider who needs access to your workspace and how you will manage sharing permissions when deciding whether Notion’s controls fit your needs.

Anytype: local-first design and user-held keys
Anytype describes its design as local-first: data is stored on the user’s device, with on-device encryption and peer-to-peer sync over local networks. Its product page puts it simply: “Your vault lives on your device.” See Anytype’s product page and its documentation for the vendor’s descriptions.
Anytype says users hold their encryption keys. The practical consequence is important: if you lose your recovery phrase, Anytype says it cannot restore access. Preserve that phrase safely before depending on Anytype for important information. These are the vendor’s descriptions of its system, not independent proof that any service is immune to compromise.

Offline access: downloaded Notion pages versus Anytype’s local-first approach
Notion: offline access depends on the device and downloaded pages
Notion’s “Use pages offline” feature works in its desktop and mobile apps, not in a web browser. You must download pages to the device you plan to use; a page downloaded on your phone does not automatically become available on your laptop. The Notion offline guide explains the available workflow. On paid plans, recents and favourites can be set to download automatically; check Notion’s plan details for current eligibility.
While offline, you can create pages and edit downloaded pages. Some advanced blocks, sharing actions, and permission changes require an internet connection. Treat offline access as a way to keep selected work available—not as a complete offline version of every Notion feature.

Anytype: local-first use and local-network sync
Anytype describes its local-first design as supporting offline use, with peer-to-peer sync on local networks. This makes its approach different from Notion’s device-level page downloads. For your own workflow, consider which devices need access and how you expect changes to sync when devices reconnect.
Offline edits and conflicts
Notion says it attempts to resolve text-edit conflicts automatically, but warns that non-text changes can conflict. For example, if two people change a database select property while offline, only one update may be saved. If collaborators are editing structured data offline, reconnect regularly rather than assuming every change will merge.

Notion: workspace and permission features
Notion’s official pricing and help pages describe features such as guests, teamspaces, and permissions. Sharing and permission changes are unavailable while offline, so online collaboration and offline work have different capabilities. The current feature and plan details are listed on Notion’s pricing page.
Anytype: shared collaboration and business offering
Anytype’s official materials describe private chats, shared collaboration, and a business offering. Those descriptions do not establish that every team workflow or administrative control matches Notion’s. Review Anytype for Business and test the specific sharing and administration features your team depends on.

Test before switching
There is no common independent benchmark in the cited product materials that settles which service is better for teams. Before moving important work, test your actual permissions, simultaneous editing, and offline-to-online handoff in both products. In particular, verify how collaborators access shared material and what happens when multiple people edit the same structured content.
