The two phones cannot be given a single price difference. Nothing lists the Phone (4a) Pro at $499 on its US phones collection, but the POCO X8 Pro Max has no matching price in that source, and the two official pages were not set up for the same market, currency or configuration. The specifications, however, can be compared directly enough to see where each phone is stronger on paper. This article sets out those specifications, explains what each figure does and does not prove, and gives a method for calculating a real price gap in your own country.
Specs side by side
The table below uses only the values stated on each brand’s official pages. Where a page does not state a value in the excerpt we reviewed, the cell says so rather than filling the gap.

Cameras and zoom
Both phones lead with a 50 MP optically stabilised main camera, so on the main lens the spec sheets are close. The real difference is in the rest of the camera system. Nothing describes three cameras that run from ultra-wide to ultra zoom and advertises up to 140x zoom, a claim Nothing’s product page presents with the phrase “World’s first 140x ultra zoom.” That is Nothing’s marketing wording. It is not an independently verified industry first, and a maximum zoom figure says little about how usable the image is at that magnification.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesPOCO’s listing names an 8 MP ultra-wide lens and no telephoto lens. If you shoot mostly at normal and wide focal lengths, that is the more useful comparison. If zoom matters to you, the published figures do not give POCO a comparable zoom number to weigh against Nothing’s claim.

Performance and gaming
POCO specifies the Dimensity 9500s platform and publishes performance figures from its own lab. Those figures are measured by POCO Internal Labs, under the test version and conditions POCO states, and they should be quoted with that attribution. Nothing’s excerpt does not name a processor, so there is no matched chip or benchmark to compare. No independent benchmark comparing these two phones was established for this article. Treat any claim of a clear speed winner as unproven until a reviewer has tested both under the same conditions.
Display
POCO’s display is the most fully specified part of this comparison: a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED panel with refresh rates up to 120Hz. Nothing’s page describes its display as large and high-refresh, but the excerpt does not give size, resolution or refresh figures. If you need exact panel numbers for Nothing, read the full specification sheet for your region before drawing conclusions.
Battery and charging
POCO lists an 8500mAh typical battery and 100W HyperCharge. Two qualifications apply. First, Xiaomi says battery configuration can vary by market, so the figure you see may differ from the one printed for another country. Second, Xiaomi says real-world charging results vary by conditions. Whether the charger is in the box also depends on the local seller, so do not assume a 100W adapter comes with every unit. Nothing’s battery capacity and charging speed are not stated on the excerpt used here, so no battery or charging comparison is possible on verified figures.

Price difference: why no number yet
A price difference is only meaningful when both phones are priced in the same country, in the same currency, with the same storage configuration, on the same day. The $499 figure fails that test for POCO. It is a Nothing US listing, and POCO’s official page for the X8 Pro Max gives specifications rather than a US price. Any gap you calculate from mixed sources, such as a US price for one phone and an Indian or European price for the other, would be meaningless.
To work out a real difference in your market, follow these steps:
- Choose your country and currency first. Pricing and availability are regional.
- Find the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro at the nearest official Nothing store or authorised retailer for your country, and record the list price for each storage option.
- Find the POCO X8 Pro Max from POCO’s official site or an authorised seller in the same country, and record the price for the closest storage option.
- Record the date and time of each check, since prices move and launch promotions often expire.
- Separate the official list price from any sale or launch price, and note whether each figure includes tax.
- Confirm warranty coverage and whether the unit is official, grey-import or from a third-party seller, because those affect the true cost.
- Calculate the difference only after steps 1 to 6 are matched for both phones.
Availability
Xiaomi’s launch page dates the POCO X8 Pro Series event to March 17, 2026, and states that market availability varies. A launch date therefore does not tell you whether the phone is on sale where you live. Check the local seller listing before you plan a purchase. Nothing’s launch timing for the Phone (4a) Pro is not stated on the excerpt used here.

What the marketing says
POCO’s launch page uses the line “POCO X8 Pro Max. POCO’s First Pro Max. The Max Experience.” It is promotional copy from the brand, not independent evidence of performance. Use the specification figures above for comparison, and read the slogans as positioning only.

Nothing’s listing gives a higher maximum zoom claim and a three-camera system, but the advertised zoom has no independent test behind it in the sources reviewed. The only price figure established is Nothing’s $499 US listing, so a fair price comparison depends on the steps above being completed for your market.
