Nomadic Crafting is not a third Workshop station. It is a Survival-skill expansion of the on-raid crafting you perform Topside. Field crafting is the general inventory process for making improvised items during a raid, while the Workshop is the persistent, base-side system for producing gear through a Workbench and specialized stations.
The practical dividing line is location: use field crafting and Nomadic Crafting while you are out in a raid; use the Workshop after returning to base. The October 2026 Raider Skill Tree overhaul also means older unlock guides may no longer match the live game.

The three crafting systems at a glance
ARC Raiders uses the word “crafting” for systems with different purposes. The fastest way to understand them is to separate the general action from the skill that expands it and the base system that persists between raids.
| Option | Where it happens | What controls access | What it is for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Field crafting | Topside, during a raid, from the inventory Crafting tab | Materials you are carrying and the recipes currently available | General improvised items made on the go |
| Nomadic Crafting | Topside, during a raid | Investment in the Survival skill and any recipe or blueprint requirements shown in the live interface | A broader on-raid crafting capability; current coverage associates it with most ammunition and mobility items |
| Workshop | Back at base, at the basic Workbench or a specialized station | Station construction or upgrades and, for some recipes, extracted and learned blueprints | Persistent base crafting for weapons, gear, consumables and other station recipes |
These systems can complement one another, but they are not interchangeable. A Nomadic Crafting unlock does not automatically convert every Workshop recipe into an on-raid recipe, and a Workshop station does not replace the ability to improvise Topside.

What field crafting means in ARC Raiders
Field crafting is the broad, on-raid process. Embark’s Help Center describes it as combining resources collected Topside “to create improvised items on the go.” You open your inventory, select the Crafting tab and use the materials currently available to make an eligible item. The official explanation is available in the ARC Raiders Help Center field-crafting guide, last updated October 27, 2025.
Its defining limits
- It is temporary and situational. The decision is made with the resources in your current raid inventory, not with the complete stockpile stored at base.
- It is recipe-dependent. The Crafting tab only presents items available to your character in that build and under those material conditions.
- It is designed for adaptation. You can turn what you have collected into something useful before extraction rather than waiting for a return to base.
Calling every on-raid recipe “Nomadic Crafting” obscures this distinction. Field crafting is the underlying activity; Nomadic Crafting is a Survival skill that expands what that activity can cover.
What Nomadic Crafting adds
Nomadic Crafting is a node or path in the Survival portion of the Raider Skill Tree. It does not represent a physical bench, room or station. When the relevant skill investment is available in your current build, it enlarges the set of things you can craft while Topside.

Contemporary coverage from PC Gamer’s October 9, 2026 guide associates Nomadic Crafting with most ammunition types and mobility equipment such as the Grappling Hook and Zipline. Those are category-level descriptions, not an official, permanent recipe index. The live skill and crafting interfaces should be treated as the authority for the exact items, prerequisites and costs in your installation.
This distinction matters because “most ammunition” does not mean every ammunition recipe is unlocked at once, and mentioning the Grappling Hook or Zipline does not establish that every mobility item is covered. A patch can move an item between nodes, add a prerequisite or change the materials without changing the name of the skill.
What the skill does not do
- It does not move the Workshop into your backpack.
- It does not make station upgrades irrelevant.
- It does not guarantee that an item can be made without the required materials.
- It does not prove that a blueprint learned for a Workshop station is also an on-raid recipe.
Think of Nomadic Crafting as permission to improvise more broadly while exposed to raid risk. The value is access at the moment you need an item, not a separate production location.
How the Workshop differs
The Workshop is the base-side crafting system. After a raid, you use the free basic Workbench and any specialized stations you have built or upgraded. The Workshop’s recipes are persistent progression: once the relevant station and recipe conditions are met, the option remains available between deployments.
Stations are part of the gate
The basic Workbench is available without paying for a separate station. Other categories are handled by specialized stations, and their levels affect which recipes the Workshop can offer. The exact station names, level requirements and material costs are subject to the current game version, so use the labels and requirements shown in your Workshop rather than an old screenshot.

Blueprints must be learned
Blueprints are not merely collectibles that sit in storage. According to the current community Workshop reference at ARC Raiders Hub’s Workshop guide, a blueprint must be extracted and then learned before it can add a recipe to the appropriate station. Finding a blueprint during a raid therefore creates a two-part progression task: survive with it, then process it at base so the recipe becomes usable.
A learned blueprint still belongs to the station system for which it was intended. Do not assume that learning a Workshop blueprint unlocks the same item in Nomadic Crafting, or that a Nomadic Crafting skill point teaches a Workshop recipe. Check the destination station or the Survival skill screen for the actual unlock path.
Direct comparison: when each option is the right one
| Question | Field crafting | Nomadic Crafting | Workshop |
|---|---|---|---|
| Can I use it during a raid? | Yes, through the inventory Crafting tab | Yes, as an enabled Survival-skill extension of field crafting | No; it is used at base |
| Does it rely on carried materials? | Yes | Yes, because it operates Topside | Uses base-side inventory and station requirements |
| Is a skill investment the main gate? | Not as a general definition; available recipes and materials are the immediate checks | Yes, together with any recipe or blueprint conditions shown in the live build | No; station construction, upgrades and learned recipes are the main gates |
| Does it persist between raids? | The general capability persists, but the immediate crafting opportunity depends on each raid’s materials | The skill investment persists until the skill system changes or is respecced under the game’s rules | Station progress and learned recipes are base progression |
| Typical use | Make an improvised item from what you just collected | Make a wider range of ammunition or mobility equipment without returning to base | Produce station-based gear, weapons, consumables and other long-term recipes |
Requirements, costs and recipe visibility
There is no single material price that applies to “Nomadic Crafting.” The cost belongs to each individual recipe and can change with a balance update. The same is true of Workshop recipes. If a guide gives an exact number but your interface shows something else, follow the current game menu.
Before crafting Topside, check four separate conditions:
- Location: you must be in a raid for field crafting or Nomadic Crafting; the Workshop is unavailable until you are back at base.
- Resources: the required materials must be in the inventory you are carrying. A resource stored at base does not solve an immediate Topside shortfall.
- Unlock state: the item must be listed for your current character, skill allocation and build. Seeing an item in a video does not make it available to you.
- Recipe gate: the interface may require a skill investment, station level, learned blueprint or another condition. Read the requirement attached to that specific recipe.
These checks explain why two players can open a similar menu and see different options. One may have Nomadic Crafting invested, while another has only the ordinary field recipes. At base, one player may have upgraded a station or learned a blueprint that the other has not.
How to decide what to craft during a raid
The decision is less about choosing a menu and more about choosing whether the benefit justifies using materials and spending time Topside.
Before deploying
- Review your Survival skills. Confirm whether Nomadic Crafting is currently invested and note any prerequisite wording. The October 2026 skill-tree changes can alter the route you need to reach a node.
- Check your intended loadout. If your plan depends on ammunition or a mobility tool, verify that the current crafting interface lists it for your character. Do not rely solely on a pre-revamp guide.
- Separate raid goals from Workshop goals. Decide which items you expect to make Topside and which items can wait until base. This prevents you from carrying materials for a Workshop recipe that cannot be used during the raid.
While Topside
- Open the inventory Crafting tab. This is the field-crafting entry point, not a Workshop station.
- Read the material requirement shown for the item. The menu reflects what you are carrying and what is available in the current build; a recipe is not craftable merely because you have seen it in a guide.
- Use Nomadic Crafting for time-sensitive needs. Ammunition or a mobility option can be valuable when returning to base would cost the opportunity to extract, reposition or survive a fight.
- Leave nonessential materials untouched when extraction is close. Crafting consumes resources and may increase the value you are risking on the remainder of the run. The interface, rather than a generic list, should determine whether the conversion is worthwhile.
After returning to base
- Visit the Workshop. Start at the basic Workbench or select the specialized station associated with the recipe.
- Check station level and recipe state. If an item is unavailable, identify whether the missing condition is a station upgrade, a blueprint or another requirement shown by the game.
- Process extracted blueprints. A blueprint found Topside does not add a recipe until it has been extracted and learned for the relevant station.
- Use the Workshop for repeatable preparation. Base crafting is the appropriate place to prepare persistent equipment and consumables before a later deployment.
Three practical raid scenarios
You need ammunition before extraction
Running low on ammunition is an on-raid problem. Return to the inventory Crafting tab and see whether the needed ammunition is listed and whether your carried materials satisfy the displayed requirement. If Nomadic Crafting covers that ammunition in your current build, it can expand your options without forcing a trip back to base. The Workshop cannot solve the shortage while you remain Topside.
You need a route across difficult terrain
Mobility equipment illustrates the same timing distinction. Current coverage links Nomadic Crafting with items such as the Grappling Hook and Zipline. If the relevant item appears in your live Crafting tab, compare its material cost with the value of reaching extraction or repositioning safely. Do not infer that every mobility item is included merely because one of these examples is available.
Rank #3
You find a Workshop blueprint
A blueprint discovered during a raid is not an instant Workshop unlock. Your immediate priority is extraction. Once back at base, learn it as required and then inspect the appropriate station. Until that process is complete, the blueprint should not be treated as proof that the same item can be crafted Topside through Nomadic Crafting.
Can the systems be combined?
They can support the same deployment, but they do not merge into one recipe pool. You might prepare equipment at the Workshop, collect additional materials Topside and then use field crafting or Nomadic Crafting when circumstances change. The shared theme is resource conversion; the location, inventory and unlock rules remain separate.
Likewise, a Survival skill point and a Workshop upgrade solve different problems. The skill expands what you may do during a raid. The station and its learned recipes expand what you can prepare at base. Planning around both systems is more effective than treating one as a replacement for the other.

Embark’s Frozen Trail 2.0 update notes, dated October 8, 2026, describe the Raider Skill Tree change as a “fairly big reimagining.” The notes specify two structural changes: mid-branch nodes now present a binary choice, and end-of-branch nodes allow selection of up to two of three skills after the required investment. Embark also warns that additional tweaks may follow.
Practical consequences of the redesign
- Old paths may point to the wrong node. A guide written before the redesign can show a sequence that no longer exists or no longer leads to Nomadic Crafting.
- Prerequisites may be different. Even if the skill name survives, the number and type of preceding investments can change.
- Recipe claims age faster than system explanations. A statement that Nomadic Crafting covers a category may remain directionally useful while a specific item, level or cost becomes inaccurate.
- Respec decisions deserve caution. When a branch offers mutually exclusive choices, selecting one node can prevent the alternative until the game provides another way to change the allocation.
For a current character, open the live Raider Skill Tree and the Crafting tab rather than copying an unlock table from before October 8, 2026. The update date is important context whenever a guide gives exact node positions or prerequisites.
Common mistakes and how to correct them
“Nomadic Crafting is a Workshop upgrade”
Why it fails: Nomadic Crafting is a Survival skill used Topside, while Workshop upgrades apply to base stations.
Correction: Use the skill screen to verify Nomadic access and the Workshop screen to verify station progression. Treat them as separate gates.

Correction: Describe ordinary improvised recipes as field crafting and reserve Nomadic Crafting for the skill-enabled expansion.
“Finding a blueprint unlocks it immediately”
Why it fails: The Workshop reference says the blueprint must first be extracted and then learned for its station.
Correction: Survive the raid with the blueprint, return to base, learn it and then confirm the recipe at the correct station.

“A guide lists the complete Nomadic recipe list”
Why it fails: Current reporting identifies broad categories such as most ammunition and mobility items, but it is not an official guarantee of every recipe in every build.
Correction: Use category descriptions for orientation and verify exact item names, costs and prerequisites in the live game.
“The Workshop is always better because it has more recipes”
Why it fails: Workshop access requires a return to base. It cannot solve an immediate ammunition or mobility problem during a raid.
Correction: Choose the system based on timing: Topside emergencies favor field crafting or Nomadic Crafting; planned, persistent production belongs in the Workshop.

A patch-proof checklist
Use this short routine whenever a patch, season or guide makes crafting advice uncertain:
Best Value
- Open the current Raider Skill Tree and confirm the Nomadic Crafting node, its branch position and its prerequisites.
- Open the inventory Crafting tab during a raid and verify the exact item, material requirement and availability for your character.
- At base, inspect the relevant Workshop station instead of assuming the on-raid list applies there.
- For a blueprint recipe, confirm that the item was extracted, learned and assigned to the intended station.
- Ignore stale exact costs, node numbers and complete recipe tables unless they match the current interface.
This process takes less time than discovering during a dangerous run that a remembered recipe belonged to an earlier skill-tree layout.
A reliable mental model
Remember the systems as three layers rather than three competing benches:
- Field crafting is the action: combine collected resources through the inventory Crafting tab while Topside.
- Nomadic Crafting is the Survival expansion: invest in the skill to broaden what that on-raid action can produce, with current coverage pointing to most ammunition and mobility options.
- The Workshop is the base economy: use the Workbench and specialized stations, upgrade them and learn extracted blueprints for persistent recipes.
If an item is needed right now, first ask whether it is listed in your on-raid Crafting tab and whether Nomadic Crafting is part of its current unlock path. If the item is part of long-term preparation, inspect the Workshop station, level and blueprint status after extraction. This location-first test remains useful even as individual recipes and skill nodes change.

Is Nomadic Crafting the same thing as field crafting?
No. Field crafting is the general inventory-based action used Topside. Nomadic Crafting is a Survival skill expansion that broadens the range of items available through that action.
Can I use the Workshop during a raid?
No. The Workshop is a base-side system. During a raid, use the inventory Crafting tab for field crafting and any Nomadic Crafting recipes available to your character.
What does Nomadic Crafting let me make?
Current coverage associates it with most ammunition types and mobility items such as the Grappling Hook and Zipline. Check the live skill and Crafting interfaces for the exact items, prerequisites and costs in your build.
Does learning a Workshop blueprint unlock its item for Nomadic Crafting?
Not automatically. A blueprint must be extracted and learned for its relevant Workshop station, and that station recipe is separate from the Survival skill path.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Do field-crafting recipes use materials stored at base?
No. Field crafting and Nomadic Crafting operate during a raid and check the materials currently carried Topside. Workshop crafting uses your base-side resources and station requirements.
Why does an old guide show a different Nomadic Crafting path?
Embark’s October 8, 2026 Frozen Trail 2.0 update substantially reworked the Raider Skill Tree. Mid-branch nodes became binary choices, and end-of-branch nodes allow up to two of three skills after the required investment, so older paths and prerequisites may no longer match.
Where should I check exact crafting costs?
Use the current in-game Crafting tab for Topside recipes and the relevant Workshop station at base. Category descriptions and older guides are not a substitute for the live requirements.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Field crafting is the general Topside action, Nomadic Crafting is the Survival skill that expands that action—currently associated with most ammunition and mobility options—and the Workshop is the separate base system governed by stations, upgrades and learned blueprints. Check the live interfaces, especially after the October 8, 2026 skill-tree overhaul, before trusting exact recipes, costs or prerequisites.
