How to set up Windows on a new Samsung Galaxy Book6 and remove unwanted apps

Set up a new Samsung Galaxy Book6 in three passes: finish Windows first-run setup, update Windows and Samsung software for your exact model, then remove only the apps you recognize and do not need. The screens and bundled apps can differ by Galaxy Book6 configuration, country, and Windows version, so use the app’s name and purpose—not a generic “safe to delete” list—as your guide.

This walkthrough follows Samsung’s general notebook setup guidance and Microsoft’s Windows removal paths. Samsung’s support material is not a separate, tested procedure for every Galaxy Book6 SKU, so expect small wording and menu differences.

Before you turn on the Galaxy Book6

Plug in the charger before starting. A first boot can include setup downloads and restarts, and losing power during that process is avoidable. Have the Wi-Fi password and the Microsoft account you intend to use ready. If the notebook is for work or school, confirm which account and sign-in method your organization requires before creating a personal setup.

The current US Galaxy Book6 family is sold with Windows 11 Home, but Samsung sells different configurations and regional editions. Do not assume another country’s model has the same edition, storage, drivers, or preinstalled applications.

Complete Windows first-run setup

Power on the notebook and work through the setup screens in order. The exact wording can change with the Windows release, region, and Galaxy Book6 SKU.

  1. Select country or region. Choose the place where you will use the laptop. This affects regional defaults such as date, number, and currency formats.
  2. Choose the language. Select the Windows display language you want. Changing it later is possible, but choosing correctly now avoids extra downloads and account changes.
  3. Select the keyboard layout. Pick the layout that matches the physical keyboard. Windows may offer a second layout; add one only if you regularly type with it.
  4. Set the time zone. Verify the zone rather than accepting an automatic choice that may be wrong when location services are limited.
  5. Accept the license terms. Read and accept the Windows and device terms to continue.
  6. Connect to Wi-Fi when prompted. Internet access lets Windows complete account setup and obtain required setup components. If the screen offers a wired or alternate connection, use a reliable connection instead of repeatedly retrying a weak signal.
  7. Name the PC, if asked. A short, recognizable name helps when the laptop appears in your Microsoft account or on a network. Samsung notes that you can change the default name later or skip naming during setup.
  8. Choose a sign-in route. Continue with a Microsoft account or another option offered on your edition and region. A Microsoft account can synchronize settings and make account recovery easier; a local option may be available on some builds. Follow any verification request shown on screen.
  9. Decide whether to restore content. Windows may offer to restore settings, files, and apps from a previous device or backup. Select restore only if you want that content on this Galaxy Book6; otherwise choose the option to set it up as a new PC.
  10. Create Windows Hello protection. Set a PIN when Windows asks. The PIN is specific to this device and is normally used alongside the account password. If fingerprint or face sign-in is offered and you want it, complete the additional enrollment after the PIN.
  11. Review privacy controls. Read each location, diagnostics, tailored experiences, and related privacy choice. Enable only the services you are comfortable using. These options are preferences, not requirements for ordinary desktop use, although a feature you decline may not work as intended.
  12. Handle optional Windows experiences. Setup can present choices for Office, OneDrive, Game Pass, personalization, and other services. These are optional offers or preferences. Keep or skip them according to your needs; declining an offer does not prevent you from reaching the desktop.
  13. Let setup finish. Leave the computer connected to power while Windows prepares the desktop. Several restarts or a short period of blank screens can occur during this transition.

Confirm that you reached the desktop

When the Windows desktop appears, wait for any first-login activity to settle before removing software. Open the Start menu and Settings to confirm that your account is present. Check the taskbar’s network icon to make sure the Wi-Fi connection survived setup.

Do not start by deleting every unfamiliar icon. Some entries are drivers, services, recovery components, or companion utilities rather than ordinary applications. The same Galaxy Book6 name can cover different processors, displays, storage capacities, cellular options, and regional software bundles.

Update Windows before cleaning up apps

Updates should come before app removal. A new machine may need cumulative Windows updates, security fixes, hardware drivers, and firmware-related components. Removing a companion utility first can make it harder to identify whether a later update is relevant.

  1. Open Start > Settings > Windows Update.
  2. Select Check for updates and install everything Windows offers.
  3. Open the advanced or optional-update area if Windows lists additional driver updates. Microsoft and Samsung note that some drivers can appear as optional Windows updates; install one when its device or component clearly matches your laptop.
  4. Restart whenever Windows requests it. After the restart, return to Windows Update and check again until no further important updates are offered.

Windows Update is the fallback when Samsung’s model-specific updater is unavailable or unsupported. It is also the normal source for Windows updates and can deliver drivers needed by the operating system.

Use Samsung Update when your model supports it

Samsung says Samsung Update supports most Samsung models and can provide recommended Samsung PC apps and drivers. Availability is model-specific, so the absence of Samsung Update—or a message that the model is unsupported—is not a setup failure.

  1. Open Start and search for Samsung Update.
  2. If it opens and recognizes the Galaxy Book6, review the recommended driver and application updates for that exact model.
  3. Install the updates that Samsung offers for the notebook. Keep the charger connected and close unsaved work before a restart.
  4. If Samsung Update is not installed, does not recognize the machine, or says it is unsupported, return to Settings > Windows Update and use that route instead.
  5. Restart when prompted, then check both update locations again. An update can expose another pending update only after the first restart.

Samsung Update and Windows Update are not competing “performance modes.” The practical distinction is support: Samsung Update can expose Samsung-recommended apps and drivers for a supported model, while Windows Update remains Samsung’s stated alternative when the Samsung utility is not available.

Update Microsoft Store apps

System updates do not necessarily update every Store-delivered application. After Windows and Samsung updates finish, open Microsoft Store > Library and select Get updates. Install the available app updates, then restart if Windows or an app requests it. Rechecking the Library after a restart can reveal updates that were not ready during the first pass.

Store updates are separate from deciding which apps you want to keep. Update first so that an application’s current name and publisher are visible when you review it.

Make an app inventory before uninstalling anything

Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps and scan the list slowly. Record an app’s full name, publisher, and—where shown—its install date or size. Search the Start menu for the same name so you can see whether it is a user-facing app, a hardware utility, or a background component.

Ask these questions before removing an entry:

  • Do I recognize the app and know what it does?
  • Do I use the feature it provides, such as device controls, account synchronization, media playback, or a work tool?
  • Is it supplied by Samsung, Microsoft, a printer or accessory maker, or my organization?
  • Would another person using this laptop need it?
  • Is the app a dependency for a feature I have not tested yet?

If you cannot answer those questions, leave the app installed. There is no universal Galaxy Book6 “safe to remove” list: bundles vary by SKU and region, and the available evidence does not establish that deleting a particular optional app improves speed, battery life, or storage by a predictable amount.

Remove ordinary apps in Settings

For most consumer cleanup, Settings is the clearest method because it shows the installed-app inventory and uses Windows’ supported uninstall flow.

  1. Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
  2. Find the app you have decided to remove. Use the search box rather than guessing from a shortened taskbar icon.
  3. Select the app’s three-dot More options menu.
  4. Choose Uninstall, then confirm the prompt.
  5. Complete any uninstaller window that opens. Some desktop programs use their own removal wizard after Windows starts the process.
  6. Restart if the uninstaller requests it. Return to Installed apps and verify that the entry is gone before removing another related component.

If the Uninstall command is unavailable, that is a signal to stop rather than force deletion. Windows may treat the item as built in, protected, or managed by another installer.

Remove an app from the Start menu

For a recognizable app, you can use the Start menu directly:

Windows may redirect you to Installed apps or launch the program’s own uninstaller. Follow the same rule: remove only software you identify and no longer need, and restart when requested.

Use Control Panel for traditional desktop programs

Some older Win32 programs do not present a complete removal control in Settings. For those applications:

  1. Open Start and search for Control Panel.
  2. Choose Programs > Programs and Features.
  3. Select the desktop program from the list.
  4. Choose Uninstall or Change, then follow the publisher’s uninstaller.
  5. Restart if requested and verify the program no longer appears in the list.

Control Panel is not a reason to remove drivers or system components. It is simply another supported interface for traditional desktop software that Settings may not handle directly.

Apps you should leave alone when uncertain

Some preinstalled Samsung or Microsoft apps cannot be uninstalled. Microsoft explains that certain applications are built into Windows, and some apps may not be removable from Settings. Samsung likewise cautions that some preinstalled or Microsoft apps cannot be removed.

Do not force-delete folders, remove registry entries, or use unofficial scripts to bypass an unavailable Uninstall command. Those actions can break dependencies and are outside the normal consumer cleanup paths described by Samsung and Microsoft. If an app is unfamiliar, search its exact name in Windows help or the publisher’s documentation and identify its purpose before deciding.

Be especially cautious with entries that mention hardware, firmware, hotkeys, display, audio, networking, security, recovery, or device integration. The fact that an item has a generic name or a small icon does not prove it is unnecessary.

Why the enterprise inbox-app policy is not a personal cleanup shortcut

Microsoft documents a policy-based inbox-app removal mechanism for managed Windows 11 version 24H2 or newer Enterprise and Education editions. It is intended for organization-managed devices, with device-management or Group Policy context. It is not the ordinary cleanup path for a consumer Galaxy Book6 running Windows 11 Home.

That policy also removes associated local app data. Using it without understanding the management scope can delete data that a user expected to keep. For a personal notebook, use Settings, Start, or Control Panel and leave built-in components in place when Windows does not offer a normal uninstall.

First-day troubleshooting

Setup language, keyboard, or time zone is wrong

Finish the first-run process rather than repeatedly powering off. Once you reach the desktop, open Windows Settings and adjust the relevant language, keyboard, or time-zone setting. If a keyboard layout was added accidentally, remove the extra layout after confirming the physical keys you use.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The laptop cannot complete setup online

Check that Wi-Fi is connected and that the password is correct. Move closer to the access point or use another reliable connection if available. After reaching the desktop, run Windows Update; setup and update failures can have different causes, so note the exact message before trying again.

Samsung Update is missing or reports that the model is unsupported

This is covered by Samsung’s support caveat. Use Settings > Windows Update, including optional driver updates when a device match is clear. Do not install a driver package intended for a different Galaxy Book model simply because the product names look similar.

An app has no Uninstall option

Check whether it is a built-in Windows or Samsung component. If it is a traditional desktop program, look in Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features. If neither interface offers a supported removal path, keep it installed until you can identify it confidently.

The computer asks for several restarts

Restarts are normal after Windows, driver, firmware-related, or application updates. Save work, keep the charger connected, allow each restart to finish, and check Windows Update and Samsung Update again afterward.

A practical first-day checklist

  • Charge the Galaxy Book6 and connect to a dependable Wi-Fi network.
  • Choose the correct region, language, keyboard, and time zone.
  • Accept the license and complete account sign-in.
  • Choose restore or new-PC setup deliberately.
  • Create a Windows Hello PIN and review privacy settings.
  • Skip optional Office, OneDrive, Game Pass, and personalization choices you do not want.
  • Reach the desktop before changing installed software.
  • Run Windows Update, review optional drivers, restart, and check again.
  • Run Samsung Update when the exact model supports it; otherwise use Windows Update.
  • Open Microsoft Store, choose Library, and select Get updates.
  • Inventory installed apps by name and purpose.
  • Remove recognized, unnecessary apps through Settings, Start, or Control Panel.
  • Leave built-in or unexplained components installed.

The safest cleanup is selective: complete the operating-system and model-specific updates first, then uninstall only software you can identify and do not need. That approach accommodates the real differences among Galaxy Book6 configurations without pretending there is one universal app bundle or deletion list.
