If your Nissan Bluetooth disconnects, will not reconnect, or stops streaming, start by checking Bluetooth on both the phone and the vehicle, then work through the six checks below. Nissan recommends these troubleshooting steps, but no single fix is guaranteed for every vehicle or phone. Menus and compatibility vary by model year and NissanConnect system, so consult the owner’s manual for your exact vehicle before following menu-specific instructions.
1. Make sure Bluetooth is on in both places
A phone can fail to connect if Bluetooth is disabled either on the phone or in the vehicle’s hands-free system. Nissan’s 2020 NissanConnect Owner’s Manual lists both settings among the causes of a phone that will not connect or disconnects after pairing.

- On your phone, confirm Bluetooth is enabled in its settings.
- In the Nissan system, check that Bluetooth or the hands-free phone function is enabled. The setting name and location depend on the vehicle.
If Bluetooth is on in both places but the phone still disconnects, continue to the next check.

Nissan lists a low phone battery and the phone’s location as possible causes of connection trouble. Charge the phone, keep it near the vehicle’s Bluetooth system, and avoid putting it somewhere surrounded by metal. Nissan Canada also advises moving metal away from the phone and vehicle audio system (NissanConnect FAQ).

3. Reduce competing connections and interference
Temporarily turn off Bluetooth on other nearby devices that may be competing for a connection. Keep the phone and audio system away from nearby metal objects where practical. This is a troubleshooting check, not proof that interference is the cause; if the problem continues, move on to restarting the devices.
4. Restart the phone and vehicle, then toggle Bluetooth
Nissan Canada recommends restarting both the phone and vehicle and turning Bluetooth off and back on when connection problems occur. Restart the phone using its normal controls. For the vehicle, use the procedure in the owner’s manual for your system; Nissan does not specify one restart procedure that applies to every model.

- Turn Bluetooth off on the phone, then turn it back on.
- Restart the phone.
- Restart the vehicle using the instructions for your model and infotainment system.
- Try connecting again and check whether calls, music, or both remain connected.
5. Delete the pairing on both sides and pair again
If the saved connection may be incomplete or stale, Nissan Canada recommends deleting the pairing from both the phone and the vehicle, then pairing again. Remove the Nissan entry from the phone’s Bluetooth device list and remove the phone from the vehicle’s saved-device list. Because the menus vary, use your owner’s manual for the vehicle-side steps.

On navigation-equipped vehicles, it describes Phone > Connect > Connect New Device; on vehicles without navigation, it describes Enter/Setting > Bluetooth > Add Phone. - Turn on Bluetooth in the phone settings and open the vehicle’s pairing menu.
- Select the vehicle name on the phone.
- Compare the PIN shown on both devices and accept the pairing if they match.
6. Check whether it is compatibility or audio mode
If calls or music still fail after the basic checks, check whether your phone is compatible with your Nissan system. Nissan directs owners to its compatibility information or a dealer when compatibility is in question. The 2020 NissanConnect manual also lists compatibility and phone registration among relevant troubleshooting checks.
For music that pauses or stops, confirm the stereo is set to Bluetooth audio mode. A cellular call can interrupt music playback without indicating a Bluetooth fault; Nissan’s 2019 NissanConnect Owner’s Manual covers Bluetooth audio playback troubleshooting.

Use the symptom to narrow down the next step
- Calls drop, but music works: Note whether the issue affects every call or only calls in particular locations. Check phone placement and pairing before seeking help.
- Music stops, but calls work: Verify Bluetooth audio mode and check whether playback resumes after a call ends.
- Calls and music both disconnect: Try the settings, placement, restart, and re-pairing checks above.
- The problem started after a phone update: Record the phone model and operating-system version; this information may help a dealer assess compatibility.
- A second phone also disconnects: Tell the dealer which phones you tried and whether the symptoms were the same.
- USB or AUX works: That provides a wired alternative while you investigate Bluetooth. Nissan Canada suggests these options for call or streaming trouble. Check your manual and vehicle ports before choosing a cable; a wired connection does not repair Bluetooth.
When to contact Nissan support or a dealer
If Bluetooth remains unreliable after checking settings and placement, restarting the devices, and pairing again, contact Nissan support or a dealer to check model-specific compatibility. Bring the Nissan model and year, phone model, phone operating-system version, and a clear description of whether calls, music, or both disconnect. Mention whether another phone behaves the same way and whether USB or AUX works. The cited Nissan guidance does not establish a universal software update, factory reset, or head-unit replacement as the correct fix for this broad symptom.
