Nintendo has announced The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2, with a release date of November 5, 2026. Its official feature page describes five groups of changes—from refreshed visuals and controls to a new progress display and companion-app features. Nintendo presents these as feature headings, not as a numbered “five changes” list.
The game is listed as a Switch 2 exclusive. Here is what Nintendo has said each feature group will add.

1. Refreshed presentation and performance
Nintendo says the remake’s materials and textures have been completely overhauled. Actions should feel snappier, loading faster, and gameplay smoother. The audio is also being refreshed, including a symphonic orchestral score. These are Nintendo’s announced improvements; the company has not published a detailed technical comparison with the Nintendo 64 or Nintendo 3DS versions.
2. More freedom of movement and camera control
Link can jump and run freely using new button commands, and the right stick provides improved camera control. Nintendo’s US product listing also describes jumping and dashing with enhanced controls and modern camera movements. The announcement does not provide a full control map, so the exact button assignments are not yet established.

3. A more immersive Hyrule
Characters will have full voice acting in expanded cutscenes and more dialogue. Nintendo also says locations have been remodeled with additional detail and can be explored with free camera movement. The day-and-night cycle will continue in towns as well as other areas, changing how time passes across the world.
4. Threads of Time tracks the adventure
Threads of Time is a progress aid within the game. Players can check their story progress and next objective at any point, while a large tapestry gradually fills in as the adventure advances. Nintendo has not described it as a replacement for exploration or explained whether it can be disabled.
5. Ocarina tunes become an interaction
When players hum a melody Link has learned within range of the Switch 2’s built-in microphone, Link will play that tune on his ocarina. Nintendo also says future playable and electric ocarinas will work with the game, but has not given complete specifications or release dates for those instruments.
Separate companion features in ZELDA NOTES
Nintendo says Ocarina of Time support is coming to the ZELDA NOTES section of the Nintendo Switch App for compatible smart devices. This is a companion-app feature set, distinct from the five groups describing changes to the game itself.

Release, platform, and physical edition
Nintendo’s US store lists the game as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, dated November 5, 2026. It lists TV, tabletop, and handheld play modes and one player. The store estimates a 27 GB game file; Nintendo cautions that game information may not be final at preorder, so treat that size as an estimate.
Nintendo Australia says a physical edition is planned. Its first print run will have textured foil cover art while stock lasts. That announcement does not establish whether packaging will be identical in every region, nor does the cited official information establish US pricing or retailer inventory.

What Nintendo has—and has not—confirmed
The announcements establish a substantial presentation and control refresh alongside additions to story presentation, progress tracking, and ocarina play. They do not provide a full side-by-side specification against earlier versions, or establish which original-game elements have been changed or removed. For that reason, the five feature groups are best read as a list of announced additions and improvements, not as a complete account of every difference from the Nintendo 64 release.
