Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack is the subscription that includes Game Boy Advance (GBA) games. The regular Nintendo Switch Online membership does not include the GBA library. Standard membership covers NES, Super NES and Game Boy Classics, while Expansion Pack adds Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64, SEGA Genesis and Virtual Boy collections, plus selected downloadable content and upgrade packs. On Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo also includes GameCube Classics in the Expansion Pack benefits.
The choice is therefore straightforward if GBA is your priority: choose Expansion Pack. The remaining decision is whether you need an individual or family membership, whether the additional libraries justify the price, and whether the membership and download code are available for your account’s country.

Nintendo’s feature matrix marks GBA access “YES” for both Expansion Pack individual and family memberships, and “NO” for standard individual, standard family and no-membership categories. You need an active Expansion Pack membership on the Nintendo Account that is using the service.
What regular Nintendo Switch Online includes
The standard tier is the lower-cost option for the core online features and earlier console libraries. It includes online multiplayer for supported Switch games, NES, Super NES and Game Boy Classics, save-data cloud backup and Nintendo’s special offers. Those libraries are separate from the GBA collection: having access to Game Boy Classics does not unlock Game Boy Advance titles.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Standard membership is available as an individual plan for one Nintendo Account or a family plan for a Nintendo Account family group. Neither standard option includes GBA, Nintendo 64, SEGA Genesis or Virtual Boy collections. If your only reason for upgrading is to play GBA software, the standard tier will not meet that requirement.
What Expansion Pack adds
Expansion Pack retains everything in standard Nintendo Switch Online and adds several retro libraries. Nintendo lists Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64, SEGA Genesis and Virtual Boy games as additional benefits for Expansion Pack members. Nintendo Switch 2 owners also receive access to GameCube Classics where that service is offered for the console.
Game Boy Advance library
GBA access is the key distinction for this comparison. It is a subscription library rather than a purchase of individual games, so access is tied to the active Expansion Pack membership. Nintendo has not published one fixed total number of GBA games for all markets and dates; the catalogue can differ by region and can change as Nintendo adds or removes titles. Avoid treating an online list made at one point in time as a permanent count.

Nintendo 64, Genesis and Virtual Boy
The same Expansion Pack upgrade also covers Nintendo 64, SEGA Genesis and Virtual Boy collections. These are useful if you want several retro systems rather than GBA alone. The standard plan does not provide a lower-cost way to add just one of these libraries; Nintendo presents them as part of the Expansion Pack tier.
GameCube Classics on Nintendo Switch 2
Nintendo’s current service description includes GameCube Classics with Expansion Pack on Nintendo Switch 2. That benefit is console-specific, so do not assume a Nintendo Switch or Switch Lite user receives the same GameCube catalogue. The other Expansion Pack libraries remain the relevant benefits for earlier Switch hardware.
Current US prices
The following are Nintendo’s listed US prices for 12-month memberships in the 2026/current pricing table. They are annual prices in US dollars, not worldwide prices; Nintendo may charge different amounts for other countries and for other membership durations.

| Plan | Term | US price | Accounts served | GBA included? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard individual | 12 months | $19.99 | One Nintendo Account | No |
| Standard family | 12 months | $34.99 | Up to eight Nintendo Accounts in one family group | No |
| Expansion Pack individual | 12 months | $49.99 | One Nintendo Account | Yes |
| Expansion Pack family | 12 months | $79.99 | Up to eight Nintendo Accounts in one family group | Yes |
Compared with the corresponding standard plan, Expansion Pack costs $30 more for an individual annual membership and $45 more for a family annual membership in the United States. Those differences are useful for budgeting, but they do not apply automatically to other countries, currencies or terms.
Individual or family: which Expansion Pack is better?
Individual membership
An individual membership is assigned to one Nintendo Account. Choose it when one person needs GBA and the other Expansion Pack libraries, or when other members of your household do not use Nintendo services. It is simpler because there is no family-group administration, but additional accounts cannot use the entitlement.
Family membership
A family membership can cover up to eight Nintendo Accounts in a Nintendo Account family group. Every account that needs the GBA library must belong to that group and use its own Nintendo Account. The family option can be the better value when two or more people will use the service, even though its upfront US annual price is higher than an individual membership.
For perspective, if all eight available places were used, the listed US annual prices work out to about $4.37 per account for standard family and about $10 per account for Expansion Pack family. Those are simple divisions of the published prices, not separate Nintendo prices, and actual value depends on how many accounts really use the membership.
Does Expansion Pack include anything besides classic games?
Yes. Nintendo lists selected downloadable content and upgrade packs among Expansion Pack benefits. The exact eligible content depends on the game, console and Nintendo’s current offer. Treat this as a selected catalogue, not a promise that every paid add-on is included. Check the entitlement shown for the specific game before buying downloadable content separately.

Online multiplayer, cloud save-data backup and special offers are already part of standard Nintendo Switch Online, so they should not by themselves justify an Expansion Pack upgrade. The upgrade decision is mainly about GBA and the additional classic libraries, with selected DLC and upgrade packs as extra value.

How access works while you subscribe
Nintendo describes the classic libraries as an ongoing membership benefit. You can use the included GBA titles while the relevant Expansion Pack membership remains active, but the subscription does not give permanent ownership of those games. If the membership expires or is cancelled and reaches its end date, the subscription library access ends as well.
This distinction matters when comparing an annual membership with buying a game outright. A membership can provide broad access at a predictable annual price, but you must keep renewing to continue using the included catalogue. Save data and any separately purchased games follow their own rules; Expansion Pack access itself is not a perpetual licence.
Country, account region and download-code restrictions
Nintendo states that its services are not available in every country. Prices, classic-game catalogues, supported consoles, payment methods and downloadable-content entitlements can vary by region. A US price table should therefore be used only for a US Nintendo Account and should not be converted into a universal price claim.
Download-code availability also differs by country. Nintendo’s Americas availability information specifically lists Expansion Pack download-code purchase for the United States and Canada. Before buying a code, confirm all of the following:
- The code is sold for the same country or region as the Nintendo Account that will redeem it.
- The code grants Expansion Pack, not standard Nintendo Switch Online.
- The term is the one you want, such as 12 months.
- The seller states the redemption region and current price clearly.
- The service and the GBA library are available in your country.
A code intended for another market may not redeem on your account, even if the console hardware is the same. Region compatibility is a purchase requirement, not a minor technical detail.
How to choose the right subscription
- Start with the library you need. If GBA games are required, eliminate both standard plans immediately. Expansion Pack is the necessary tier.
- Count the Nintendo Accounts. One user points to an individual membership. Two or more users should compare the family price and confirm that all users can be placed in the same Nintendo Account family group, up to the eight-account limit.
- Price the complete benefit. Consider whether you will use Nintendo 64, SEGA Genesis, Virtual Boy, and, on Nintendo Switch 2, GameCube Classics. Include any selected DLC or upgrade packs that you would otherwise buy.
- Check the account country. Use the price and catalogue for your Nintendo Account’s market. Do not rely on a US listing if the account is registered elsewhere.
- Choose a purchase method that matches the region. For a digital code, verify the redemption country, membership tier and duration before payment. For a direct subscription, review the price and renewal terms shown for your account.
- Confirm the membership status after purchase. The GBA library should be available only when the Expansion Pack entitlement is active on the account using it.
Practical scenarios
You want only GBA games
Expansion Pack individual is the direct answer if one Nintendo Account needs the service. There is no standard Nintendo Switch Online option that adds GBA separately, so choosing standard first will require another upgrade later.

Two siblings or partners both want GBA
Compare the family Expansion Pack price with buying two individual memberships. The family plan can cover up to eight accounts, so it becomes more attractive as more people use it. Make sure each person uses an account in the same Nintendo Account family group rather than assuming a console-wide purchase automatically covers every profile.

Standard Nintendo Switch Online may be sufficient when GBA, Nintendo 64, Genesis, Virtual Boy and the other Expansion Pack benefits are not part of your plans. Upgrading solely for online multiplayer or the NES and SNES libraries adds cost without expanding those particular standard benefits.

Include GameCube Classics in your value calculation because Nintendo lists that collection with Expansion Pack on Switch 2. Confirm which GameCube titles are offered in your region rather than assuming every historical GameCube game is included.

A code will not redeem
Recheck the code’s country, the Nintendo Account region and the tier printed in the listing. Nintendo documents country-specific availability, and an Expansion Pack code for one market may not be valid for an account in another.
You expected a particular game or DLC item
Expansion Pack access covers the catalogues and selected content Nintendo identifies for the service; it is not a guarantee that every GBA title, every retro release or every downloadable add-on is present. Look at the current library and the game’s entitlement information for your region.
What the price difference really buys
The standard-to-Expansion Pack premium is primarily payment for additional libraries and selected extras. In the United States, the annual individual upgrade is $30 and the annual family upgrade is $45 based on Nintendo’s current listed prices. The standard benefits remain included after upgrading, so you do not trade away online play, cloud backup or the NES, SNES and Game Boy collections.

Frequently misunderstood points
- “Game Boy” is not the same as “Game Boy Advance.” The Game Boy Classics library is part of standard Nintendo Switch Online; GBA Classics requires Expansion Pack.
- Expansion Pack is not a one-time purchase of the catalogue. Access is tied to an active membership.
- A family plan is account-based. It supports up to eight Nintendo Accounts in a family group, not an unlimited number of local console profiles.
- US prices are not global prices. Nintendo sets availability and pricing by market and membership duration.
- The number of GBA games is not fixed. Do not rely on an old total when the current catalogue may differ by region or date.
Bottom line
If your question is “Which Nintendo Switch Online plan has GBA games?”, the answer is Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. Regular Nintendo Switch Online includes NES, Super NES and Game Boy Classics, but not Game Boy Advance. In the United States, the current 12-month prices are $49.99 for an individual Expansion Pack membership and $79.99 for a family membership covering up to eight Nintendo Accounts, compared with $19.99 and $34.99 for the corresponding standard plans. Before buying, verify your account country, the code’s redemption region and the current catalogue, because Nintendo’s prices, services and game availability vary by market.
