The Nintendo Switch – OLED Model is a hybrid Nintendo console that plays in handheld, tabletop, and TV modes. Its defining feature is a 7-inch OLED touchscreen; it also adds a wider adjustable stand, enhanced onboard audio, 64 GB of storage, and a dock with a built-in wired LAN port. It is model HEG-001 and plays the Nintendo Switch game library.

What is the Nintendo Switch OLED?

It is a Nintendo Switch-family console, not a separate game platform. The OLED Model combines a portable screen and detachable Joy-Con controllers with the option to connect to a TV through its dock. Nintendo lists its release date as October 8, 2021.

Its screen is a 7.0-inch capacitive OLED touchscreen with a resolution of 1280 × 720. OLED pixels emit their own light, unlike an LCD screen that uses a backlight; Nintendo describes the result as vivid colors, deeper blacks, and crisp contrast. The display resolution remains 1280 × 720 in handheld and tabletop play. When docked, the console can output up to 1920 × 1080 at 60 fps over HDMI. Nintendo Support’s OLED overview and FAQ provides the specifications and mode details.

How is it different from the standard Nintendo Switch?

Nintendo’s US comparison identifies the standard Switch as HAC-001(-01) and the OLED Model as HEG-001. Both play the Switch game library and support handheld, tabletop, and TV modes. The OLED version’s improvements are principally to its screen and physical design, rather than to game compatibility.

Will your games and accessories work?

Nintendo says the OLED Model supports the full Nintendo Switch game library and controllers compatible with Nintendo Switch systems. Some experiences may differ because the console is larger, and Nintendo warns that it may not fit cleanly in all Nintendo Labo Toy-Con.
