Buying the console does not include a membership. Nintendo’s reviewed pages do not identify “Console Archive” as an official product or service name, so this comparison covers the likely intended question: how Switch 2 differs from Nintendo Switch Online.
Console vs. membership: what each one is
Nintendo Switch 2 is hardware you buy to play games. Nintendo Switch Online is a subscription attached to a Nintendo Account that provides benefits on linked, compatible Switch and Switch 2 consoles. The two are separate purchase decisions: owning a Switch 2 does not, by itself, give you Nintendo Switch Online. Nintendo’s Switch 2 overview describes the console, while its Nintendo Switch Online page describes the membership.

What Nintendo Switch Online includes
The standard membership offers online play in compatible games, cloud backup for supported save data, access to Nintendo Classics, Nintendo Music, and special offers. Nintendo says its classic-game library has “over 150 favorites”; that is Nintendo’s stated count, not an independently audited total, and the live library can change. Benefits and game availability vary by region. Check Nintendo’s current U.S. service details for the current lineup.
Standard membership vs. Expansion Pack
Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack includes standard membership benefits and adds further classic-game libraries and selected downloadable content. The table reflects Nintendo’s published benefit categories; specific games, DLC, and regional availability can change.

What a Switch 2 owner gets with a membership
Nintendo says membership benefits can be used on any linked, compatible Switch or Switch 2 console. The membership is tied to the Nintendo Account, not bundled into the hardware purchase. If you use more than one compatible console, the account link is what matters; the console purchase itself does not create a subscription. Nintendo Support explains Switch and Switch 2 membership compatibility.

Nintendo Switch Online launched on September 18, 2018, according to Nintendo of America’s Nintendo Switch FAQ. That historical launch date does not change the distinction: Switch 2 is the console, and Nintendo Switch Online is an optional, separate service.
