A new Samsung refrigerator that is not getting cold may still be starting up, may be in Cooling Off (Demo/Shop) mode, or may have a power, setting, door-seal, placement, or airflow issue. Start by checking the display, power, doors, vents, and temperature setting. If the compartment still measures too warm after the appropriate wait, contact Samsung or an authorized service provider.
First, separate startup time from a cooling problem
Samsung US advises waiting about two hours after plugging in a new refrigerator before storing food. That is a food-storage instruction, not a guarantee that every model has reached its final temperature by then. After changing a temperature setting or cleaning a seal, Samsung guidance allows time for the compartment to stabilize: its Saudi Arabia support page says this can take up to 24 hours. Keep those situations distinct; use your model’s manual for its specific instructions.

If the refrigerator was delivered recently, check the delivery paperwork and manual before plugging it in. Waiting instructions can depend on transport orientation and the exact model. Samsung Colombia’s guidance applies to products bought in Colombia and gives different intervals for different transport circumstances, so do not treat it as a universal rule. If you do not know how the unit was transported, ask the retailer, delivery team, or Samsung support what to do for your model.

If the display shows OF OF, O FF, OFF OFF, or scrolling temperature bars, Samsung says the refrigerator is in Cooling Off (Demo/Shop) mode. Cooling is disabled in this retail display mode even though the lights and controls may still work. A new unit that was previously used as a showroom display is one possible reason, but the display alone does not establish the unit’s history.

There is no reliable universal button combination for exiting the mode: the procedure varies by model. Samsung says Family Hub models use Fridge Manager settings, while other models use different controls. Find the full model number and follow the corresponding manual or Samsung support instructions rather than trying combinations at random. See Samsung’s guide to OF OF and scrolling-bar displays.
Check power, settings, doors, and airflow
Power and display
- Confirm the plug is secure and the outlet works.
- Check the display for an error code or an unusual icon and look up what it means for your model.
- A lit display is not proof that cooling is active: Demo mode can leave the controls on while disabling cooling.
Do not repeatedly unplug the refrigerator or factory-reset it as a general fix. Samsung advises resetting only in specific situations or when troubleshooting directs it; an error code may require service.

Temperature setting and doors
- Check that the refrigerator and freezer settings are appropriate and have not been changed unintentionally.
- Make sure packaging, food, or drawers are not stopping either door from closing fully.
- Inspect the door seals. Clean dirt from them with a damp cloth and mild detergent. If a seal is cracked or damaged, Samsung says service may be needed.
Airflow and placement
- Keep interior vents clear of food packages and avoid overfilling the compartments.
- Keep the refrigerator away from direct sunlight and heat-producing appliances.
- Use the installation guide for your exact model to confirm required clearances. Samsung’s regional guidance differs, so one clearance number should not be treated as universal.

Verify the compartment temperature with a thermometer
If the display is inconclusive, a refrigerator thermometer can help determine whether the compartments are actually cooling. Samsung recommends placing a thermometer in a glass of water near the middle of the refrigerator compartment. For the freezer, place it between frozen packages rather than in water. Keep the doors closed while measuring: Samsung says an accurate reading may take up to eight hours. After lowering a temperature setting, its guidance recommends waiting 28 hours before checking again.

Samsung’s US temperature page relays USDA food-storage thresholds of below 40°F for refrigerated food and below 0°F for frozen food. These are food-safety thresholds reported on Samsung’s page, not a promise about what temperature a particular model’s display will show. Contact Samsung support or an authorized service provider if power is present, Demo mode is off, the doors close and seal, settings and airflow are reasonable, and a thermometer still shows that a compartment is too warm after the applicable stabilization time. Have the full model number, any display code, installation and plug-in dates, and thermometer reading ready.

Do not open sealed refrigeration components or attempt compressor repairs. Samsung’s support guidance for a refrigerator that is not cooling recommends contacting support or arranging service when basic checks do not resolve the issue.
