In WordPress Maintenance Manager, deleting a site reportedly sent the list back to the top because a refresh call preserved the current page but did not preserve the scroll position. The described fix is to pass the second keepScroll argument as true at six operation-triggered refreshes. The application’s initial load is intentionally different: it resets to page one and the top of the list.
Why the list jumped after a delete
Susumu Takahashi’s account of the issue describes a frustrating pattern: after deleting an item, the page moved to the very top, making it harder to continue working through entries farther down a long site list. The same behavior was reported after five other operations, so deletion was not the only affected action.

The reported implementation uses fetchSites(keepPage, keepScroll), with both arguments defaulting to false. The rendering path calls window.scrollTo({top: 0, behavior: 'smooth'}) whenever keepScroll is false. A call to fetchSites(true) therefore preserves the page selection but leaves scrolling at its default behavior: returning to the top. Takahashi’s article says, “The scroll-preservation logic itself was fine”; the problem was that the relevant refresh calls did not enable it. Read Takahashi’s account on WP Maintenance Manager.

Which six refresh calls need to preserve scrolling
The reported correction changes each operation-triggered refresh from fetchSites(true) to fetchSites(true, true). The first argument preserves the current page; the second tells the refresh to retain the scroll position.

| Operation | Refresh location described | Reported change |
|---|---|---|
| Site deletion | deleteSiteByIndex |
fetchSites(true) → fetchSites(true, true) |
| Drag-and-drop reorder | Reorder completion | fetchSites(true) → fetchSites(true, true) |
| Thumbnail fetching | Refresh while a modal is open | fetchSites(true) → fetchSites(true, true) |
| Category deletion | Deletion-triggered refresh | fetchSites(true) → fetchSites(true, true) |
| Tag deletion | Deletion-triggered refresh | fetchSites(true) → fetchSites(true, true) |
| Maintenance completion | Final refresh after completion | fetchSites(true) → fetchSites(true, true) |
The thumbnail refresh is easy to overlook because it runs asynchronously behind an open modal. The maintenance flow also needs attention at its final refresh: the account says streaming already had separate behavior to suppress scrolling, but the final refresh did not carry that intent forward. The six locations and change are described in Takahashi’s DEV Community post.
Why startup should still reset the list
The change is not to make every refresh preserve scrolling. The initial fetchSites() call during startup was deliberately excluded: on a fresh load, starting on page one at scroll position zero is appropriate. The distinction is between an operation that updates a list the user is already working in and a new application load.

Keep page clamping separate from scroll preservation
Deleting an item can also leave the current page beyond the range of pages still available. The account describes a separate safeguard in filterSites: it uses Math.min to clamp the current page when deletion reduces the remaining range. That protects page validity; passing true as keepScroll addresses the independent question of where the viewport lands. The WP Maintenance Manager account describes both behaviors.
Evidence and scope
This is the implementation and fix as reported by Takahashi, not an independently reproduced bug report or a separately verified repository patch. The six call sites are implementation locations named in the account, not a measure of how many users were affected.
