Start by restarting your Samsung phone and checking whether it can load a web page. If the connection works, update Netflix and your phone’s software before clearing app data or reinstalling Netflix. Those last steps remove downloads and sign you out. The right fix depends on whether Netflix is missing, crashing, unable to play, or buffering—and on any error code shown.
What to check first
- Restart the phone. Turn it fully off, switch it back on, and try Netflix again.
- Check the internet connection. Open a web page or visit fast.com. If the page does not load, address the phone’s connection before troubleshooting Netflix. If possible, compare Wi-Fi with mobile data: a problem on only one connection points toward that network. Netflix explains that a browser error or a page that will not load means the device is not connected to the internet in its Android troubleshooting steps.
- Update Netflix and Android. Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets get Netflix through the Galaxy Store; Netflix’s general Android guidance also covers updating through the Play Store. The latest Netflix app requires Android 9 or later on Samsung Galaxy devices. Older app versions may have different requirements, but that does not guarantee an older phone can install or run the latest version. See Netflix’s Android device and app guidance.
If Netflix will not open or keeps crashing
Clear Netflix app data
If restarting and updating do not help, open Netflix’s app information and storage controls in Android settings. Menu names and paths vary by Samsung model and software version; look for Settings, Apps, Netflix, then Storage or Storage & cache, and choose the option to clear storage or app data. This deletes Netflix downloads and signs you out. Make sure you know your Netflix password before proceeding.

Reinstall the app
If clearing data does not resolve the issue, uninstall Netflix and reinstall it from the device’s app store. Reinstallation also removes downloaded titles and signs you out. Follow Netflix’s Android troubleshooting guidance if you need the app-specific steps.

Error (-400): check date and time
Set the phone’s date, time, and time zone to automatic or network-provided values. Netflix says a mismatch with the current time and location can prevent the service from working. See Netflix’s guidance for error (-400).

Error (-14): check the connection
Netflix says error (-14) usually indicates a network connection problem. Compare Wi-Fi and mobile data, and check whether other apps or web pages can connect. Netflix’s Android troubleshooting steps include restarting the home network when the issue appears broader than Netflix.
Playback error (1.1): refresh stored app information
Netflix says device-stored information may need refreshing for error (1.1). Clear Netflix app data or reinstall the app, keeping in mind that either action removes downloads and signs you out. See Netflix’s instructions for playback error (1.1).

If Netflix plays but buffers or will not play in HD
First compare Wi-Fi and mobile data. If playback is affected on both, restart the phone and check for app and system updates. If the video plays but HD is unavailable, open Netflix’s Playback Specification diagnostics and check the Widevine level. Netflix says Android HD playback requires Widevine L1; a device reporting L3 can play only in SD. If L1 appears but HD still does not work, update Netflix and contact support if the problem continues. Netflix explains device compatibility and playback specifications in its Android device guidance.

Check the Galaxy Store and Play Store, then verify that the phone meets Netflix’s app and device requirements. Availability can depend on the model, region, store status, and software. Netflix warns that rooted or modified Android versions may prevent downloading or normally using the app. If the device is not Play Protect certified, Netflix says a supported device is required. When the problem appears to be your home network
If Netflix and other services struggle on the home Wi-Fi, restart the network equipment rather than resetting Netflix first:
- Turn off the Samsung phone.
- Unplug the modem and router from power for 30 seconds.
- Reconnect them and wait about a minute for the connection to return. Some equipment takes longer.
- Turn the phone back on and retry Netflix.
These are Netflix’s recommended network restart steps.

When to contact Netflix support
If the steps that match your symptom do not work, search the Netflix Help Center for the exact error code or contact Netflix support. The error code, phone model, Android version, and whether the issue happens on Wi-Fi, mobile data, or both can help narrow the cause.
