Which Soundbar Under $250 Should You Buy? 5 Picks by Setup

Need a soundbar under $250? Compare five options by speaker layout, subwoofer, Atmos support and price evidence before checking today’s listings.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a full surround package, look first at the TCL S-Class S65K—but only if its reported $249.99 launch offer is still available. For a less expensive 5.1 system, consider the Hisense HS5100. If you do not need rear speakers, the Hisense HS2100 and TCL S55H are simpler 2.1 options. The Vizio SV510X-0806 is worth checking when its live price is below $250.

These are use-case picks, not five models verified at the same price or tested head-to-head. Prices and stock can change; confirm the current listing and what is included before buying.

Five soundbars under $250, matched to different needs

The most important distinction at this budget is the speaker layout. A 5.1 package with physical rear speakers can put effects behind you; a 2.1 system has a subwoofer but no rear satellites, while a standalone bar is simpler still. Atmos format support does not, by itself, mean a system has physical height speakers.

Pick Best fit Speaker setup Key caveat Price evidence
TCL S-Class S65K Complete surround kit, if it meets the budget 5.1, wireless rear satellites and subwoofer The reported deal is dated; verify the price and included components. TechRadar reported a $249.99 launch offer, against a stated $399.99 MSRP, on September 2, 2026. This is not a guaranteed current price.
Hisense HS5100 Lower-cost physical 5.1 setup 5.1, discrete satellites, dedicated center channel and subwoofer RTINGS says it does not support Atmos. RTINGS lists it in its under-$200 guide; check the current listing.
Vizio SV510X-0806 Physical rear speakers and Atmos playback 5.1 with satellites It lacks dedicated up-firing drivers, and its price under $250 is not confirmed. RTINGS includes it in its under-$300 guide; a separate roundup describes Vizio 5.1 SE pricing around $200, not a confirmed live price for this exact SKU.
Hisense HS2100 Low-cost bar-plus-subwoofer setup 2.1 with wireless subwoofer; no satellites Less immersive than a physical 5.1 package; confirm the current SKU matches. RTINGS gives an approximate price of $100. Treat that as an estimate, not a live quote.
TCL S55H Compact 2.1 option without rear speakers Stereo sound with a subwoofer Atmos format compatibility does not add rear or physical height speakers. RTINGS lists it in its under-$200 guide; verify current price.

1. TCL S-Class S65K: the complete kit, if the deal holds

The S65K is the clearest match if you want rear satellites, a subwoofer and a center channel in one package. TechRadar’s September 2, 2026 report lists a $249.99 launch offer against a $399.99 stated MSRP and describes the system as 5.1 with wireless rear satellites and a subwoofer. The same report lists Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, HDMI eARC, Bluetooth 5.3, app control and AI room calibration for the S-Class models. Treat the offer as time-sensitive, not as proof of today’s price.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

2. Hisense HS5100: physical 5.1 for less

RTINGS names the HS5100 its best soundbar under $200. Its review describes discrete satellites, a dedicated center channel for dialogue, a subwoofer and Bluetooth. That makes it a practical lower-cost route to physical surround sound; it is not an Atmos option, according to RTINGS. Check the listing for the exact model and included speakers.

3. Vizio SV510X-0806: check the price before choosing

RTINGS lists this 5.1 system as its best option under $300 and notes that it includes satellites and can play Atmos content. It does not have dedicated up-firing drivers, so Atmos playback should not be confused with physical height-channel speakers. A separate budget roundup describes Vizio 5.1 SE pricing around $200, but that does not establish a current sub-$250 price for the SV510X-0806 specifically. Buy it for this budget only if the exact model is listed below $250 and the package contents suit your room.

4. Hisense HS2100: an inexpensive 2.1 setup

RTINGS calls the HS2100 its best cheap soundbar and gives an approximate price of $100. The dedicated wireless subwoofer adds bass, but the system has no rear satellites, so it cannot provide the same physical surround layout as a 5.1 kit. Confirm that the current listing is for the HS2100 and includes the subwoofer before relying on that price or setup.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

5. TCL S55H: compact stereo sound with a subwoofer

RTINGS includes the S55H in its under-$200 guide and describes balanced sound, a subwoofer and Atmos format compatibility. It delivers stereo sound and has no rear satellites. Atmos compatibility identifies a supported audio format; it does not mean this 2.1 system has discrete surround or physical height speakers.

What matters most when choosing

Physical surround versus virtual effects

Rear satellites are separate speakers placed behind the listening position. A bar without them may use processing to create a wider or more enveloping impression, but that is not the same physical layout. If placing speakers behind the sofa is practical and movie immersion is the priority, start with the 5.1 candidates. If space, setup or cable management matters more, a 2.1 option is simpler.

Subwoofer and dialogue

A dedicated subwoofer supplies low-frequency effects that a compact bar may struggle to reproduce. For movie watching, RTINGS recommends considering a separate subwoofer and wireless satellites. A center channel can also be useful for dialogue; the HS5100 review specifically identifies a dedicated center channel. Check the system’s actual components rather than assuming every soundbar includes a subwoofer or center speaker.

Atmos labels and speaker hardware

Separate three things when comparing formats: whether the system accepts an Atmos soundtrack, whether it simulates effects through processing, and whether it has physical up-firing drivers. The cited evidence describes Atmos playback for the Vizio but says it lacks dedicated up-firing drivers; it lists Atmos compatibility for the stereo TCL S55H, which has no rear satellites. The HS5100 does not support Atmos. A format logo alone does not tell you where sound will physically come from.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

TV connection and format compatibility

Check the soundbar’s inputs against the TV’s available outputs and the devices you use, such as a streaming player or disc player. Match supported audio formats to your sources. TechRadar lists HDMI eARC for the S-Class models; the cited RTINGS guides discuss differences in optical and Bluetooth connections across models. Confirm the exact model’s connection options before purchase, especially if you need a particular input or pass-through feature.

How to make a sensible purchase at this price

  1. Decide whether rear speakers are essential. Choose a 5.1 candidate for physical satellites; choose a 2.1 system if you prefer a smaller, simpler setup.
  2. Check the exact model and box contents. Verify whether the listing includes a subwoofer, rear satellites, cables and any other components you need. Similar model names or broader product-family pricing do not confirm the contents of a specific SKU.
  3. Compare the current total with your $250 ceiling. The S65K’s cited $249.99 was a launch offer, and the Vizio’s cited price evidence does not establish a live sub-$250 listing. Confirm current retailer price, availability and any delivery charges.
  4. Match connections and formats to your setup. Check your TV’s outputs, the soundbar’s inputs and your source devices’ audio formats. Do not choose on an Atmos label alone.
  5. Plan where the speakers will go. Make sure rear satellites can be placed near the listening area and that the subwoofer fits where you can use it. If not, a compact 2.1 system may be the more practical choice.

How to read the price and recommendation evidence

These candidates come from product guides and a dated launch-price report, not a single controlled comparison of five models at exactly $250. RTINGS says it tested more than 255 soundbars in its 2026 budget guide, updated October 6, 2026. Its stated conclusion in that guide is that the Hisense AX5140Q is the best budget soundbar it has tested; that is RTINGS’ assessment, not a finding from a head-to-head test of the five picks here. The specific candidates above are included because their layouts and trade-offs map to common budget needs.
