Yes. Connect the PS5 to a 1-input, 2-output HDMI splitter to mirror its picture on two displays. Whether the setup preserves 4K at 120 Hz, HDR, or VRR depends on the splitter and the capabilities of both displays, their HDMI inputs, the cables, and the signal negotiation between them. If you want to choose one display at a time rather than show the same picture on both, use an HDMI switch instead.
What an HDMI splitter does with a PS5
A splitter distributes one HDMI source to multiple displays. With the right 1-in/2-out unit, the PS5 can send the same output to a TV and a monitor at the same time. The OREI VLSP-12H21SA manual, for example, describes one source feeding two displays and identifies PS5 as a source it can use: OREI VLSP-12H21SA product information.

A splitter is not the right device if your goal is to route the PS5 to only one of two displays and select which one is active. That is the job of an HDMI switch. Do not assume a splitter changes destinations just because it has multiple outputs.

It can, if every part of the signal path supports the desired mode. Sony states that the PS5 supports HDMI 2.1 and 4K 120 Hz output, but also warns that intermediary devices such as receivers can cause 4K/120 Hz problems. Its support guide recommends checking the display, HDMI port, cable, intermediary equipment, firmware, and console output settings: PlayStation Support: How to change PS5 console resolution.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check the exact resolution and refresh-rate combination, bandwidth, and feature support listed for the splitter. A headline claim such as “8K” or “HDMI 2.1” does not by itself establish that a particular combination of 4K/120 Hz, HDR, and VRR will work with both connected displays. The cited OREI manual specifies up to 48 Gbps, 4K/120 Hz, VRR, HDR formats, and other features for that model; those are manufacturer specifications, not a guarantee for every device combination.
- For 4K/120 Hz: Confirm the splitter explicitly supports that mode and the required bandwidth. Use the PS5’s included cable or an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable rated for the target mode.
- For HDR and VRR: Check that the splitter, both displays, and the selected HDMI inputs support the needed formats. Sony notes that VRR results vary by TV.
- For two different displays: Check how the splitter handles their different capabilities. A model with downscaling may offer a way to send compatible outputs, but confirm its behavior in the manual.
Sony’s TV guidance says to use an input that supports the intended mode and enable the appropriate enhanced signal format. Menu names vary by TV; Sony lists “Enhanced format (4K120, 8K)” or “Enhanced format (VRR)” depending on the model’s capability: Sony Help Guide: Video game consoles.

How to connect a PS5 splitter
- Connect the PS5’s HDMI output to the splitter’s HDMI input.
- Connect each splitter output to a display. The cited OREI unit has one input and two outputs; follow the labels on your own model.
- Use the included PS5 cable or an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable for a 4K/120 Hz path. Sony recommends these cable options for 4K/120 Hz use.
- Connect each display to an HDMI input that supports the desired mode. In the TV’s settings, enable the appropriate enhanced signal format if required. The setting and menu path depend on the TV.
- On the PS5, open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output. Check Current Video Output Signal and the available resolution, 120 Hz Output, VRR, HDR, and Video Transfer Rate settings. Sony says this screen reports connected HDMI-device details, including resolution, VRR, and HDR.
What to check when the picture is blank, flickers, or drops to 1080p
- Connect the PS5 directly to the display, bypassing the splitter. If the problem disappears, the splitter or another part of the intermediary path may be involved. This comparison helps isolate the cause; Sony specifically advises considering intermediary devices when troubleshooting 4K/120 Hz.
- Confirm that the display and the HDMI input you are using support the target resolution and refresh rate. Check that the TV’s enhanced signal format is enabled where needed.
- Check the HDMI cable and the splitter’s stated support for the exact mode. A device that can pass a lower-resolution signal may not handle the PS5’s chosen high-bandwidth mode.
- Review the PS5’s Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output screen for the current signal and available settings. If necessary, test a supported lower resolution or refresh rate to identify whether the issue is limited to a particular mode.
- If the splitter has EDID controls, consult its manual before changing them. EDID settings affect the display capabilities advertised to the source; the cited OREI manual describes modes with different resolution and audio settings.
Sony’s troubleshooting guidance also recommends checking the display’s capabilities, firmware, cable, intermediary devices, HDMI port, and PS5 output settings: PlayStation Support: 4K resolution troubleshooting.

What to look for in a splitter
- Routing: One HDMI input and two outputs, with simultaneous mirroring if you need both displays active.
- Video mode: The exact resolution and refresh-rate combination you plan to use, plus the stated bandwidth.
- Features: VRR, HDR formats, and ALLM if your setup needs them.
- HDCP: Check the version and requirements for the devices you plan to connect. A listed HDCP specification alone does not prove compatibility with every capture card or protected video source.
- EDID and mixed displays: Look for clearly explained EDID modes and any downscaling behavior if the two displays have different capabilities.
- Power and cables: Check whether the splitter needs external power and what cables are required for the intended signal.
The OREI VLSP-12H21SA manual describes a powered 1-in/2-out splitter and lists HDMI 2.1, HDCP 2.3, up to 48 Gbps FRL, 4K/120 Hz 4:4:4, VRR, FVA, ALLM, HDR formats, EDID management, and per-output downscaling or conversion. These are specifications for that model; check its current product information and manual against your exact setup before buying: OREI VLSP-12H21SA product information.

Using a splitter with a capture card
A splitter’s listed HDCP compliance does not establish that it will work with every capture card, or that protected media can be captured. Check the manuals for the splitter and capture device for the specific connection and content you intend to use. Compatibility with one setup should not be treated as universal.
