What happened at Himlung Himal?
During severe weather on Sunday, September 27, an avalanche buried the base camp of Himlung Himal, a 7,126-metre peak in Manang district, north-central Nepal. Foreign climbers had not yet reached the site; the people there were Nepali expedition workers and guides preparing the camp and route for the climbing season.

How many people died in the Nepal avalanche?
As of Reuters’s October 1 report, 15 bodies had been recovered, and one worker was still missing. The Associated Press reported the same recovery status on October 2. Because the latest reporting described one person as missing, 15 is the confirmed recovery count in those reports—not a final accounting of everyone affected.
Is the search over?
On October 2, the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association said recovery efforts had been temporarily concluded because of continuing mountain hazards. The association said further efforts might be possible when conditions allowed. This was a pause in recovery work, not confirmation that the missing worker had been found.

What caused the avalanche?
Reports link the avalanche to severe weather, but do not establish a specific trigger or technical snowpack cause. The available reporting therefore does not support a more precise explanation of why the slope released.
