Neocloud vs AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure GPUs: Which Is Right for Your Workload?

Choose a neocloud when GPUs are the center of the project and you need a specific accelerator, simple per-GPU procurement, or flexible capacity. Choose AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure when your GPU jobs must fit an existing identity, storage, network, governance, data, and support environment. The cheapest advertised GPU hour is not automatically the cheapest training run or production service. Compare the complete instance, interconnect, region, commitment, quota, interruption policy, egress, and support package before deciding.

The decision in one view

A neocloud is an accelerator-first provider: its catalog, capacity planning, and operations are built around GPUs. Hyperscalers sell GPUs as part of a much broader cloud platform. That distinction matters more than the label. A portable fine-tuning job may benefit from a neocloud’s direct GPU pricing and fast access to a particular SKU, while an enterprise inference service may save more engineering time on a hyperscaler that already hosts its data, identity, private network, Kubernetes clusters, monitoring, and compliance controls.

Choose this option when… Why it fits What to verify first
Neocloud Your workload is GPU-centric, portable, and sensitive to accelerator price or availability. Exact GPU form factor, node topology, quota, image support, persistent storage, scheduler, egress, support, and interruption terms.
AWS Your organization already operates in AWS and needs its identity, networking, storage, observability, or contractual support around the GPU job. P5 size and region, Capacity Block or other reservation terms, vCPU and memory bundle, data-transfer charges, quota, and lead time.
Google Cloud You need a wide GPU catalog, per-second billing, or GPU capacity close to existing Google data and services. Machine family, GPU count, on-demand versus Spot behavior, regional quota, host topology, and the cost of moving outputs.
Azure Your workload depends on Microsoft identity, private networking, enterprise agreements, or tightly integrated data services. ND H100 v5 availability, eight-GPU node requirement, InfiniBand configuration, quota, reservation, and regional controls.

What a neocloud changes

Traditional cloud providers expose GPUs through general-purpose compute products. A neocloud organizes its service around accelerators, often separating the GPU component from CPU, RAM, and storage. CoreWeave’s published classic pricing illustrates this model: the listed NVIDIA H100 PCIe amount is a GPU component, while CPU, RAM, and storage are additional components. That can make accelerator procurement easier to understand, but it also means a headline GPU number is not a complete machine price.

Hyperscalers bundle a GPU with a defined virtual-machine shape and the surrounding cloud control plane. The bundle can be less transparent at first glance, yet it may include capabilities your team would otherwise have to assemble: private connectivity, centralized identity, audit logs, managed Kubernetes, regional policy, support escalation, and storage close to the training data.

Neither model guarantees lower total cost. A neocloud can reduce the price of idle or experimental GPU capacity; a hyperscaler can reduce the staff time and data-transfer friction around a production system. Measure the useful result—completed training steps, tokens generated, images rendered, or requests served—not only the GPU-hour.

GPU and node options you can actually compare

GPU model names do not describe the whole platform. Memory capacity, GPU-to-GPU links, host CPUs, local storage, and the network between nodes determine whether a job scales efficiently.

Provider or family Documented configuration Important implication
Google Cloud GPU machine families The catalog lists RTX PRO 6000, GB300, GB200, B200, H200, H100, L4, P100, P4, T4, V100, and A100 options, with up to eight GPUs per instance and per-second billing. There are choices for training, inference, visualization, and legacy compatibility; confirm the exact machine family and regional availability.
Google H100, H200, and B200 H100: 80 GB HBM3; H200: 141 GB HBM3e; B200: 180 GB HBM3e. Google documents full-mesh NVLink configurations for accelerator-optimized machines. Larger memory can avoid model sharding or reduce offload, while full-mesh links can improve intra-node communication. Verify that the selected instance includes the topology you require.
Azure ND H100 v5 The smallest documented VM contains eight NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPUs. Each GPU has NVLINK 4.0 and a dedicated 400-Gbps NVIDIA Quantum-2 CX7 InfiniBand connection; Microsoft says deployments can scale to thousands of GPUs. This is designed for distributed workloads, but the eight-GPU starting point may be wasteful for a small experiment. Check node-level quota and availability.
AWS EC2 P5 AWS offers eight-H100 P5.48xlarge capacity and announced a one-H100 P5.4xlarge size through Capacity Blocks in multiple regions. Single-GPU jobs no longer have to reserve an eight-GPU shape where the one-GPU Capacity Block is available. Capacity Block scheduling and region still govern access.
Neocloud accelerator instances Catalogs vary; accelerator, vCPU, RAM, and storage may appear as separate line items. Compare the complete node and its interconnect, not a GPU-only rate. Ask whether GPUs are SXM or PCIe, how they are connected, and what network is available between nodes.

For large models, memory and topology can outweigh nominal GPU count. An H200’s 141 GB HBM3e, for example, may keep a model or a larger batch in accelerator memory where an 80 GB H100 would require sharding or offload. That does not make H200 universally faster or cheaper: software support, batch size, interconnect, and utilization decide the result.

Published figure What it represents Qualification
US$41.528 per hour (US$5.191 per GPU-hour) AWS EC2 Capacity Blocks effective rate for an eight-H100 P5.48xlarge. Shown for the US East (Atlanta) Local Zone; it is a scheduled Capacity Block rate, not a universal on-demand price.
US$4.25 per hour CoreWeave classic pricing page’s NVIDIA H100 PCIe GPU component. CPU, RAM, and storage are additional components, so this is not a complete VM total.
60–91% discounts Google’s reported discount range for most machine types and GPUs using Spot pricing. This is a range, not an H100 quote. Spot prices are dynamic and can change up to once every 30 days, and capacity can be interrupted.

Normalize every quote into the same unit before choosing:

  • Hardware: GPU model, memory, PCIe or SXM form factor, GPU count, vCPU, RAM, local disk, and attached storage.
  • Location: region and availability zone or Local Zone, plus the location of your data and users.
  • Commercial terms: on-demand, Spot, reservation, Capacity Block, minimum duration, cancellation, and committed spend.
  • Networking: inter-node bandwidth and topology, private connectivity, ingress, egress, and cross-zone transfer.
  • Operations: image, driver and CUDA support, orchestration, monitoring, support tier, and the labor needed to operate it.
  • Utilization: startup time, queue time, checkpoint overhead, idle periods, and the percentage of GPU time doing useful work.

Then calculate an effective cost per useful output. For training, divide the full run cost by completed tokens, samples, or time to a target validation score. For inference, include warm capacity, autoscaling headroom, failed or retried requests, and egress. A lower GPU-hour that spends hours waiting for quota or communicating inefficiently can cost more than a higher rate on a reliably scheduled node.

Which option fits each workload?

Large distributed training and HPC

Start with topology, not price. Distributed training repeatedly exchanges gradients and activations. Compare NVLink inside a node, InfiniBand, EFA, or an equivalent fabric between nodes; the number of GPUs per node; NCCL behavior; scheduler integration; and the provider’s ability to reserve the whole cluster for the run.

Azure documents eight-H100 nodes with NVLink and dedicated 400-Gbps InfiniBand, while Google documents full-mesh NVLink options for accelerator-optimized machines. A neocloud may offer similarly dense systems, but you must obtain the exact topology and benchmark conditions in writing. Ask whether all requested nodes are placed in a suitable fabric, how failed nodes are replaced, and whether your scheduler can request the topology rather than merely a GPU count.

Fine-tuning, batch inference, and experiments

These jobs are often the best neocloud candidates when code and data are portable. On-demand capacity avoids interruption; Spot capacity can lower cost when checkpoints are frequent and jobs resume cleanly. Before launching, test the provider image, driver and CUDA versions, persistent-volume performance, autoscaling behavior, quota request process, and the time required to recreate a failed instance.

A single-GPU shape can be more economical for a small fine-tune. AWS’s one-H100 P5.4xlarge Capacity Block option is relevant when it is offered in the required region and schedule. Google and neocloud catalogs may provide additional one- or multi-GPU choices, but availability is a live constraint rather than a catalog promise.

Enterprise production inference

Production systems usually need more than an accelerator. Private networking, identity federation, audit, regional controls, managed Kubernetes, secrets, observability, and a support contract can justify a hyperscaler premium when those services already surround the application. Put the model endpoint near its data and users, then measure end-to-end latency and egress; a fast GPU in a distant region can produce a slower or more expensive service.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A neocloud can still be appropriate when the serving stack is containerized, the data path is portable, and your team can operate networking, monitoring, and failover itself. In that case, compare the engineering cost of recreating enterprise controls with the savings on accelerator capacity.

Interactive visualization and mixed GPU use

Training accelerators are not automatically the best choice for graphics-heavy or interactive workloads. Google’s catalog includes L4 and RTX PRO options alongside H100, H200, B200, and other accelerators. Match graphics features, memory, display or encode requirements, and latency to the application. A smaller or graphics-oriented GPU may deliver a better user experience than a high-end training part that spends most of its time waiting on the application.

Capacity, quota, and scheduling are first-class requirements

Ask “Can I get the GPUs when the job must run?” before asking “What is the hourly price?” Hyperscaler quotas can differ by region and machine family. A Capacity Block or reservation can improve certainty but may impose a fixed schedule or commitment. Spot capacity is cheaper when available, yet interruption and changing prices must be part of the design. Neoclouds may have a shorter path to a specific SKU, but they can also have finite regional inventory and queueing.

Request written answers to these questions:

  • What quota is granted initially, and how long does an increase normally take?
  • Is capacity reserved for the exact GPU count, node type, region, and duration?
  • What happens if a node fails or capacity is reclaimed?
  • Can you scale from one node to the target cluster without changing regions?
  • Are there minimum run times, scheduled windows, or cancellation penalties?
  • Which support channel handles a blocked allocation during a production incident?

Build a small capacity test before committing. Request the intended shape, start the image, attach the real storage, run a short communication test, and record queue time, startup time, throughput, and failure recovery. A catalog that cannot supply the test at your required time is not a usable option for that deadline.

Software and operations checklist

Portability is more than moving a container. Confirm all of the following on every candidate:

  • Images and drivers: supported NVIDIA driver, CUDA, framework, and container runtime versions.
  • Orchestration: Kubernetes, Slurm, batch APIs, or another scheduler that matches your team.
  • Storage: persistent-volume type, throughput, snapshots, durability, and whether checkpoints survive instance replacement.
  • Networking: private addressing, firewall controls, DNS, load balancing, inter-node fabric, and observability.
  • Monitoring: GPU utilization, memory errors, thermals, network counters, job logs, and alert export.
  • Automation: infrastructure-as-code, quota requests, image promotion, secrets, checkpointing, and teardown.
  • Support: response targets, escalation path, incident communication, and responsibility boundaries between GPU, host, network, and software.

For a portable experiment, package the environment, store checkpoints in a provider-neutral format, and keep launch scripts parameterized for GPU count and memory. For production, test restore and migration rather than assuming that a container alone makes the service portable.

Data gravity, governance, and the hidden bill

Moving a model to a cheaper GPU can be irrational if the training corpus already sits in another cloud or if every inference response crosses a paid egress boundary. Price storage, read and write operations, snapshots, inter-region transfer, private links, and final-result egress. Include the time to copy data and the risk of maintaining two authoritative datasets.

Governance can be equally material. Compare identity integration, role-based access, audit retention, encryption and key management, private endpoints, regional residency, compliance scope, vulnerability response, and contractual support. A hyperscaler may inherit controls your organization has already approved. A neocloud may meet the technical requirement, but you may need additional reviews, network design, and operational ownership.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A repeatable selection process

  1. Define the output: record the model, target quality, throughput or latency, deadline, and acceptable interruption rate.
  2. Specify the accelerator: set minimum memory, GPU count, form factor, topology, and software requirements instead of naming only “H100.”
  3. Map the data path: locate datasets, checkpoints, users, databases, and compliance boundaries.
  4. Shortlist two architectures: at least one accelerator-first option and one hyperscaler option that can satisfy the topology and region requirements.
  5. Normalize quotes: include CPU, RAM, storage, network, egress, support, commitment, and expected utilization.
  6. Run a proof of capacity: measure queue time, startup, training or inference throughput, inter-node scaling, checkpoint recovery, and service latency.
  7. Model failure: stop a Spot instance, remove a node, disconnect storage, and test recovery before production.
  8. Choose the contract: confirm quota, reservation or Capacity Block schedule, cancellation, support response, data handling, and exit terms.
  9. Recheck before purchase: GPU generations, prices, discounts, and regional availability change frequently.

Practical recommendations by situation

Your situation Starting point Reasoning
One-off fine-tune with portable data and frequent checkpoints Neocloud on-demand or interruptible capacity; also price a single-GPU hyperscaler shape. Portability lets you prioritize accelerator availability and rate, while checkpointing limits interruption risk.
Multi-node training with strict completion date Compare reserved hyperscaler capacity and neocloud cluster guarantees side by side. Topology, synchronized node availability, and replacement procedures matter more than a nominal GPU discount.
Inference beside an existing enterprise data platform The hyperscaler hosting that data, unless its GPU quota or latency fails the test. Private connectivity, identity, governance, and avoided egress can outweigh a lower standalone GPU price.
Interactive graphics or mixed workloads Evaluate L4, RTX PRO, or another graphics-capable option rather than defaulting to H100. Application latency and graphics features may matter more than training throughput.
Rapidly changing experiments across GPU generations Keep a portable deployment and compare several regions and providers before each run. Capacity and pricing move quickly; flexibility has option value.

Bottom line

There is no universally cheapest reliable H100 cloud. A neocloud is usually the sharper first comparison for GPU-first, portable work; AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure is often the safer operational choice when the GPU service must live inside an established cloud estate. Select the platform that delivers your required result on schedule after you include topology, quota, utilization, data movement, governance, support, and failure recovery. Re-run that calculation whenever the GPU generation, region, discount, or capacity commitment changes.
