Canada has the strongest documented expansion case among Namibia, Canada and Australia, but “fastest” depends on what you measure. Canada produced the most uranium in 2024 and has an explicit national objective to double uranium exports between 2024 and 2035, supported by new mine production. Namibia is making the clearest near-term expansion at an operating mine: Rössing’s pit pushback, tailings expansion and mine-life extension are advancing, while the mine’s reported 2025 output rose 22.5% from 2024. Australia has the largest resource base and several project signals, including the Honeymoon restart and a revised feasibility study for Mulga Rock, yet its 2024 production edged down and no comparable national growth target is documented.
The evidence does not support a single, harmonized 2035 production ranking. Canada leads on national policy and current output; Namibia shows the most tangible expansion at an existing large operation; Australia offers the greatest geological optionality but the least certain near-term conversion of resources into new annual production.

2024 uranium production: Canada is the clear leader
The World Nuclear Association’s 2026 update lists 2024 mine production of 60,213 tonnes of uranium (tU) worldwide. The three countries compare as follows:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems| Country | 2024 mine output | Share of world output | Position in the three-country comparison |
|---|---|---|---|
| Canada | 14,309 tU | 24% | Largest producer and host of the two largest mines in the table |
| Namibia | 7,333 tU | 12% | Second-largest of the three, with major operating-mine expansion under way |
| Australia | 4,598 tU | 8% | Third-largest of the three in the WNA table, with restart and feasibility activity but slightly lower 2024 output |
On this consistent WNA basis, Canada produced almost twice as much as Namibia and more than three times Australia’s output. That is a comparison of production already achieved, not a forecast of future growth. A country can have a smaller current output and still add capacity faster if a new project starts, while a large producer can grow only modestly in percentage terms.

Australia’s own government geoscience assessment gives 4,656 tU for 2024 and says production fell 0.6% from 2023. The difference between 4,598 tU in the WNA table and 4,656 tU in Geoscience Australia’s assessment reflects source and methodology choices. It should not be treated as evidence that Australia produced an additional 58 tU; use one series consistently when comparing countries.
What “expanding uranium production” means
Uranium expansion has several stages, and they carry different levels of certainty. A mine-life extension at a producing site can add tonnes sooner than a greenfield project, but it may not increase a country’s annual peak output if it mainly prevents decline. A restart demonstrates that a plant can return to operation, yet sustained production depends on ramp-up performance. A feasibility study is an engineering and economic milestone, not a construction approval or a guaranteed start date. National export targets express policy intent rather than assured mine supply.
A useful comparison therefore uses four separate axes:
- Current mine output: tonnes actually produced in a stated year.
- Expansion at operating mines: approved pit, plant, tailings or mine-life work that can extend or raise production.
- Projects moving toward production: restarts, construction decisions and feasibility studies.
- Resource endowment: uranium that is geologically identified and economically recoverable under a stated cost category, which is not the same as annual mine output.
These measures answer different questions. Combining them into one score would make the comparison appear more precise than the evidence allows.
Canada: strongest documented national expansion case
Production base
Canada produced 14,309 tU in 2024, equal to 24% of world mine output in the World Nuclear Association’s 2026 table. The same table identifies McArthur River/Key Lake at 7,808 tU and Cigar Lake at 6,501 tU, making them the two largest mines listed worldwide for that year. Those operations are operated or jointly owned by Cameco and Orano.
This concentration matters for expansion analysis. Canada is not trying to build a uranium industry from a small base; it already has two exceptionally large operations and the infrastructure, workforce and regulatory experience associated with them. Additional production can come from sustaining and expanding established districts as well as from new mines.

The quantified policy target
Natural Resources Canada’s Nuclear Energy Strategy states: “Double uranium exports from 2024 to 2035, supported by new mine production entering service by 2035.” This is the only explicit quantified national expansion target identified for the three countries.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The wording is a policy objective, not a guaranteed mine-output forecast. Export tonnage can differ from mine production because inventories, conversion, enrichment and fuel-cycle trade affect shipments. New mines also require permitting, financing, construction, commissioning and a stable operating regime. The target nevertheless gives Canada a clearer national direction than the project-level evidence available for Namibia and Australia.
What would have to happen by 2035
Meeting the strategy’s objective would require new production to enter service while existing mines continue operating at high output. The strategy does not, by itself, identify a final list of projects, a guaranteed annual production number or a fixed commissioning schedule. Investors and readers should therefore treat “double exports” as a strategic benchmark against which future approvals and construction decisions can be measured.
Namibia: the clearest operating-mine expansion
Production base and leading mines
Namibia produced 7,333 tU in 2024, or 12% of world mine output in the WNA comparison. Husab was the country’s largest mine in that table, producing 4,437 tU. Namibia already ranks second among the three countries by current annual output, so changes at its largest operations can materially affect national supply.
Rössing’s extension to 2036
The Namibian Uranium Association says Rössing’s life-of-mine extension to 2036 was approved in 2023. The work requires a north-eastern pit pushback and expanded tailings capacity. Its 2025 update says strategic investments in technology, resource planning and operational efficiency supported the extension, while the Phase 4 expansion pushback of the main pit, started in 2024, continued through 2025.
That combination is a concrete expansion signal because it concerns an operating mine rather than only an unbuilt project. The pit pushback can expose additional ore, and expanded tailings capacity addresses a physical constraint on continued processing. Extending mine life to 2036 also reduces the risk of an abrupt production loss from the site, although the available evidence does not establish a new national peak output or a precise annual increment from the project.

Interpreting Rössing’s 2025 increase
Rössing reported 3,185 tonnes of U3O8 in 2025, 22.5% above its 2024 figure. This is the mine’s reported product measure, U3O8, rather than the tU uranium-content measure used in the WNA country table. Because the units and reporting bases differ, the mine figure should not be added directly to Namibia’s 7,333 tU or used to calculate a country-wide growth rate without a conversion and a consistent accounting method.
The increase does show that Rössing’s recent operating trend was positive while expansion work continued. It does not prove that the same percentage will recur, nor does it describe output from every Namibian mine.
Namibia’s expansion profile
Namibia’s case is strongest when the question is, “Which country has visible expansion at an existing large mine?” Rössing has an approved mine-life extension, physical pit work and tailings investment. The country also has a high current production base, led by Husab. However, the available material does not provide a harmonized national forecast through 2035 or a quantified national target comparable with Canada’s export objective.
Australia: largest resource base, less certain near-term growth
Production and the resource-versus-output distinction
Australia produced 4,598 tU in the WNA 2024 table, or 8% of world mine output. Geoscience Australia’s 2026 assessment records 4,656 tU and a 0.6% decline from 2023. Both figures describe 2024, but they come from different reporting approaches; they should be labeled rather than silently combined.
Australia holds about 32% of the world’s reasonably assured uranium resources recoverable below US$130 per kilogram of uranium, according to the stated resource assessment. That is a major long-term advantage. It does not mean 32% of annual production, and it does not indicate how quickly individual deposits can receive approvals, financing, infrastructure and customers.
Honeymoon restart
Geoscience Australia reports that the Honeymoon mine in South Australia, operated by Boss Energy, had been in care and maintenance since 2013. Mining operations recommenced in the December quarter of 2023, with production starting in 2024.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
A restart is more advanced than a concept or exploration target because an existing site is returning to production. The evidence supplied here does not establish Honeymoon’s full ramp-up rate, steady-state annual output or its exact contribution to the national 2024 total. It is therefore best viewed as a production-restart signal rather than proof of a national acceleration.

Deep Yellow’s Mulga Rock project has begun a revised Definitive Feasibility Study scheduled for the third quarter of 2026, according to Geoscience Australia. A revised DFS can refine mine design, capital costs, operating assumptions and schedules. Until the study is completed and followed by permitting, financing and a construction decision, Mulga Rock remains a pipeline project rather than operating capacity.
Olympic Dam and by-product production
Olympic Dam remains a major by-product uranium producer. The WNA 2024 table lists 2,693 tU from the operation. Because uranium is produced alongside its principal commodities, its output is influenced by the broader mine plan and processing performance, not only by uranium-market conditions. That makes Olympic Dam important to Australia’s supply, while also illustrating why resource size alone cannot predict annual uranium growth.
Australia’s expansion profile
Australia has the strongest resource endowment of the three countries and several signs of future supply: Honeymoon has restarted, and Mulga Rock is advancing through feasibility work. The near-term national picture is less certain because 2024 production was slightly lower on the Geoscience Australia series and no quantified national expansion target is documented here. Australia could add meaningful production if projects progress, but the timing depends on decisions that have not yet been completed.

Which country is expanding fastest?
If “fastest” means the strongest national commitment
Canada ranks first. It is the only country in this comparison with a quantified national objective: double uranium exports between 2024 and 2035, supported by new mine production entering service by 2035. Its 2024 production lead also gives the policy a substantial industrial base.
If “fastest” means visible work at a producing mine
Namibia has the clearest case. Rössing’s approved extension to 2036, Phase 4 pit pushback and expanded tailings capacity are specific projects at an operating mine. The mine also reported a 22.5% year-on-year increase in 2025 U3O8 output, although that metric is not directly interchangeable with national tU data.

If “fastest” means future optionality
Australia leads on resources. About 32% of global reasonably assured resources below US$130/kgU are located there, and the Honeymoon restart plus Mulga Rock feasibility work create potential growth paths. The evidence does not yet show that this geological advantage is translating into the fastest near-term production increase.
What could change the ranking
Uranium schedules are sensitive to decisions that can move faster or slower than public targets. The main variables are:
- Permitting and regulatory approvals: mine plans, tailings facilities, water systems and environmental conditions must be authorized before construction or expansion can proceed.
- Construction and commissioning: a feasibility study or policy announcement does not create operating tonnes until facilities are built, tested and ramped up.
- Prices and contracts: producers need commercial arrangements and financing that support capital spending; market conditions can alter project timing.
- Existing-mine performance: grades, equipment availability, workforce capacity and processing recoveries can raise or lower output independently of headline expansion plans.
- Measurement conventions: tU and U3O8 are different reporting units, and national totals can vary by source methodology.
No harmonized 2035 production forecast for all three countries is established by the available sources. Canada’s export objective is explicit, while Namibia’s and Australia’s evidence is primarily project-level. Future schedules, permitting outcomes, prices and construction decisions can therefore change the order.

Choose Canada as the answer when the question is which country has the strongest documented, country-wide expansion plan. Choose Namibia when the focus is concrete expansion at an existing mine already producing at scale. Choose Australia when the focus is long-term resource depth and a pipeline that could expand, but whose timing remains less certain.
The most defensible present ranking is therefore conditional: Canada leads on national expansion intent and current output; Namibia leads on operating-mine expansion evidence; Australia leads on resources but not on demonstrated near-term growth. That distinction is more useful than declaring a single “fastest” producer without defining the metric.
