What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Most MR. RECORDS music-editor problems can be narrowed to one control: a rejected audio file, an incorrect first-beat offset, a wrong tempo, an unsuitable scroll speed, a muted output, or an invalid shared ZIP. The built-in Level Editor is available from the main menu beside the story option in the free demo and in builds that include the editor. Use Import Music for your audio, set tempo and first-beat offset before fine-tuning scroll speed, and test playback in the editor. For shared levels, use the editor’s file-import route and confirm that the ZIP was exported with the editor’s Share command.
Find the symptom before changing settings
Changing several controls at once makes rhythm problems harder to diagnose. Start by matching what you see to the symptom in this table, then change only the control associated with that symptom.

| What happens | Most likely area | First action |
|---|---|---|
| The audio is rejected or never appears in the project | File import or validation | Run Import Music again and read the validation message |
| The whole song is early or late by roughly the same amount | First-beat offset | Adjust the offset, then retest the opening beats |
| The opening is aligned but notes move farther out of time | Tempo | Correct tempo before touching offset |
| The chart is synchronized but visual movement feels too quick or slow | Scroll speed | Change scroll speed after timing is correct |
| The level runs but no music can be heard | Music volume, game volume, or output device | Check the editor’s music volume and the game’s Windows output |
| A shared ZIP will not load | Import route, ZIP integrity, or export method | Use Import from a file and obtain a fresh editor-exported ZIP |
| The level opens but has no custom song | External audio dependency | Ask the creator which audio file the project requires |
This separation matters because each control does a different job. Offset moves the chart’s starting alignment; tempo determines how quickly the beat grid progresses; scroll speed changes the visual pacing; and volume affects audibility rather than timing.

The official Steam Community Level Editor FAQ places the Level Editor on the main menu beside the story-play option. In the record editor, the first icon lets you create a new level or import one from a file.

- With broad game support, the Logitech Gamepad F310 works with old standbys to today's biggest titles, so it's easy to set up and use with your favorite games.
- Profiler software allows the gamepad to be programmed to perform keyboard and mouse commands for games without gamepad support.* * Requires software installation.
- A familiar control layout that doesn't require a learning curve to be able to use, with all the same buttons as on an Xbox 360.
- The unique floating D-pad rests on four switches-instead of a single pivot point-making it responsive to quick changes in direction.
- The six-foot cord lets you lean back and play a comfortable distance from your PC monitor.
- Return all the way to the main menu.
- Look beside the story option for the Level Editor entry.
- Open the editor and select the first icon.
- Choose whether to create a level or import an existing file.
If the editor entry is missing, first confirm that you are running the updated free demo or another build that includes the editor. Restart the game after an update so the new menu content can load. The published FAQ documents the menu location; restarting is practical troubleshooting rather than a separately documented official fix.
MR. RECORDS is listed on Steam as a rhythm adventure with a built-in editor for adding music, generating gameplay, placing obstacles, remixing experiences, and sharing custom levels. The full game is listed as not yet available on Steam, while the free demo is available. The demo listing specifies Windows 10, 8 GB of memory, DirectX 10, and 2 GB of storage as minimum requirements, and describes seven handcrafted levels. Those requirements are for the demo listing; they do not establish requirements for a future full release.
Import a song correctly
Custom music is added from the editor rather than by placing a file in an arbitrary game folder. The official workflow uses the Import Music command. The menu also presents a choice between Import Music and Use Game Music.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Open a new level or an imported project in the Level Editor.
- Choose Import Music.
- Select the audio file in the file picker.
- Read any validation message before continuing.
- Set the song’s tempo, first-beat offset, scroll speed, and music volume.
- Play the level from the editor and check the first section before building the complete chart.
Do not assume that a file accepted by another player is accepted by MR. RECORDS. The published documentation does not provide a definitive supported-format list, so there is no reliable format, codec, sample-rate, or extension rule to quote as a universal fix. If the editor rejects the file, preserve the exact validation text and try a known-good file that you can select through the same command. If one file works and another does not, the failure is tied to the file or its encoding rather than to chart timing.

- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
When import fails immediately
- Reopen the project and invoke Import Music from inside the editor rather than relying on a previous selection.
- Use the file picker to select the original file, not a partially copied download.
- Check whether the editor displays a validation message; follow that message instead of changing tempo or offset.
- Test a second audio file. A successful second import separates a project-wide editor issue from a file-specific rejection.
- If every file is rejected, verify that the game build is current and restart it after applying updates.
The available documentation does not identify a single guaranteed conversion utility or a complete list of accepted formats. Treat format conversion as a possible file-preparation step, not as an officially specified requirement.
Correct a song that starts in the wrong place
A constant timing error is present when the first playable beats are all early or all late by approximately the same amount. Use first-beat offset for that condition. Offset changes where the chart starts relative to the audio; it does not repair a tempo mismatch.
- Play the level from the editor and listen for the first clear beat or musical attack.
- Decide whether the chart arrives before or after that beat.
- Change the first-beat offset in the direction that moves the chart toward the audio.
- Replay the opening and make a smaller adjustment if the error is now reduced but not eliminated.
- Check a later section to ensure that the alignment remains consistent.
If the opening and the ending are separated by an increasing error, stop adjusting offset and use the tempo procedure below. Repeated offset changes cannot compensate for a beat grid that is running at the wrong rate.
Fix progressive drift with tempo
Progressive drift has a distinctive shape: the song begins close to the chart, then the notes become increasingly early or late as playback continues. Independent guidance identifies an incorrect tempo as the first cause to check. Tempo controls the rate of the beat grid, so a small error accumulates over time.

- Hall Effect Joysticks: Delivering enhanced recentering performance for smoother control and superior anti-drift capability. Plus, with anti-friction rings.
- 2-Way Trigger Lock: With trigger stops, gamers can toggle between short and long pull positions. Additionally, gamers can activate hair trigger mode by pressing M+LT/RT (triggers must be in the long pull position).
- 1000Hz Polling Rate: This ensures that your inputs are registered almost instantaneously, minimizing lag and maximizing your performance during competitive play.
- Mechanical Circular D-pad: Designed for quick reactions and accuracy in every direction, this D-pad elevates your gaming experience with superior responsiveness.
- Play the beginning and a later section of the level.
- Confirm that the error grows rather than remaining constant.
- Adjust the tempo value to match the song’s actual beat rate.
- Retest the beginning and the later section.
- Only after the rate is aligned, adjust first-beat offset to remove any remaining constant start-time error.
Use the order tempo first, offset second. If you reverse that order, you may make the opening look correct while leaving the end of the song out of sync.
Distinguish tempo error from offset error
| Check point | Offset error | Tempo error |
|---|---|---|
| Opening beats | Early or late by a similar amount | May be close initially |
| Later beats | Remain separated by roughly the same amount | Move progressively farther out of alignment |
| Correct control | First-beat offset | Tempo, then offset if needed |
This diagnostic pattern is more useful than guessing from a single note. Always compare at least an opening section with a later section before deciding which value to change.
Set scroll speed without breaking timing
Scroll speed controls how quickly the chart moves visually. It changes the player’s visual pacing, not the underlying beat alignment. A level can be perfectly synchronized and still feel uncomfortable if notes travel too fast or too slowly for the player.
Recommended Free Tools
- Correct tempo and first-beat offset first.
- Play a representative section of the level.
- Change scroll speed when the visual approach is too fast or too slow.
- Retest the same section to confirm that the new pacing is readable.
Do not use scroll speed to fix notes that arrive musically early or late. If the audio and chart disagree, return to tempo and offset.

Restore silent or missing playback
When a level loads but seems silent, separate the imported file from the game’s audio output. The official FAQ documents a music-volume control, but it does not publish a separate audio-device checklist.
- Open the level in the editor and confirm that the project is using the intended music rather than Use Game Music.
- Raise the editor’s music-volume setting to a clearly audible level.
- Play the level from the editor so you can test the project without leaving the editing workflow.
- Check the game’s master volume and the Windows output device or per-application volume.
- Test another level. If other levels play audio, focus on the imported file or project settings; if none do, focus on the game or Windows output.
If the file was imported successfully but only one project is silent, reselect the project’s music and verify its volume setting. If a shared project is silent while local projects work, ask the creator whether the project expects a separate audio file.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Import and repair shared level ZIP files
Finished levels can be exported with the editor’s Share button as ZIP files. The matching import path is the editor’s Import from a file route, available from the first icon.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Save the ZIP locally and let the download finish completely.
- Open the Level Editor from the main menu.
- Select the first icon and choose Import from a file.
- Select the ZIP without renaming it.
- Let the editor open the project, then test playback before editing the chart.
If the ZIP will not open
- Confirm that the file is actually the ZIP delivered by the creator, not an HTML download page or an incomplete transfer.
- Ask the creator to export the level again with the editor’s Share command.
- Download the fresh archive again and import it through the editor, not through a general archive workflow.
- Avoid renaming the archive until it has imported successfully.
A ZIP that opens is not proof that every dependency is inside it. The available documentation does not promise that shared archives embed or redistribute every custom audio file. A project may therefore open with its chart but lack the song that the creator used.

If the shared level has no music
- Ask the creator for the exact audio file used by the project.
- Ask whether the project was built with imported music or with Use Game Music.
- Import the audio through Import Music if the creator confirms that an external file is required.
- Recheck tempo and first-beat offset after importing the replacement audio.
Do not assume that a missing song indicates a broken chart. It can be an external-audio dependency that the archive did not include.
Make playtesting controls reliable
MR. RECORDS’ Steam listing says, “The developers recommend playing the game with a controller.” A Windows-compatible controller is therefore the most direct choice for testing timing, obstacle placement, and the feel of scroll speed. If input feels unreliable, verify that the controller is recognized by Windows and by Steam before judging the chart itself.
- Use the same controller when comparing two timing adjustments.
- Test in the editor after each meaningful change instead of changing several values between runs.
- Separate input problems from audio problems: confirm that actions register before changing tempo or offset.
A complete troubleshooting sequence
Use this sequence when several symptoms appear together. It keeps file, timing, display, and output problems separate.
- Confirm access: find the Level Editor beside the story option on the main menu.
- Confirm the build: use the updated demo or a build that includes the editor, then restart after updates.
- Confirm the source: import the song through Import Music, or identify whether the project uses Use Game Music.
- Confirm validation: record any import message and test a second file if necessary.
- Confirm rate: compare the opening with a later section; fix progressive drift with tempo.
- Confirm start: use first-beat offset for a constant early or late start.
- Confirm visual pacing: adjust scroll speed only after synchronization is stable.
- Confirm output: check music volume, game volume, and the Windows output device.
- Confirm sharing: import ZIP files through Import from a file and request a fresh Share export if the archive fails.
- Confirm dependencies: obtain the creator’s audio file when a shared project opens without music.
What the editor can and cannot establish
The official material establishes the editor’s location, the import and sharing workflow, and the four song controls: tempo, first-beat offset, scroll speed, and music volume. It also establishes controller play as the developer recommendation and identifies the demo’s published minimum PC requirements. It does not publish a definitive supported-audio-format list, a guarantee that custom music is embedded in every shared ZIP, or a dedicated audio-device recovery checklist. Those limits are why the safest fixes are symptom-based: follow the editor’s validation message for import failures, use tempo for accumulating drift, offset for a constant start error, scroll speed for visual pacing, and volume/output checks for silence.
