Smert the Wraith

An independent guide describes four Bond tiers, I through IV, purchased with Glimpses from Zhirelle the Shellkeeper in Merow Keep. Bond investment develops a Shell’s existing combat style and can unlock passives that materially affect its performance. For that reason, do not assume a newly acquired Shell already reflects its later tier-list ranking.

In its Week 1 update, developer Cold Symmetry said Glimpses and Tarcores are no longer finite, allowing all Shells and Tarstones to be upgraded in one playthrough. The update also says Mether’s Severance can be given to Zhirelle to sever a Shell’s Bond, reset it, and return spent Glimpses. It may also be purchased from Merrick and can restock as you progress.

A practical approach is to try a Shell’s core active ability and combat rhythm before committing to a preferred build. The update’s respec option and non-finite Glimpses mean you do not have to treat early spending as a permanent choice.
Which Shell should you invest in first?
Choose the Shell whose defensive rhythm you enjoy, then use Bond investment to develop that style. If boss control is your priority, the August 21 guide favors Smert, Genessa, and Gragu; if you prefer dodging, Tiel is its specialist pick, while Eredrim’s parry-and-riposte approach suits players willing to learn enemy timing. These are guide recommendations, not universal results.
