What you need to use it
You need a camera connected to a computer and a way to position it over the document. A webcam is one intended use, but the README does not promise support for every camera model. If your webcam is hard to aim or keep steady, a suitable stand or mount may make positioning easier; the project does not list one as a requirement.

Lighting, camera stability, focus, and page placement can affect the source image, so check the captured result before relying on it. The available project documentation does not establish scan speed, accuracy, resolution, or parity with a dedicated scanner.
Installation options and operating-system notes
The README provides standalone executables for Windows and Linux, as well as instructions for running Camscan as a Python module. Its example Conda setup shows Python 3.11. For Linux, it warns that Anaconda or Miniconda can cause Tkinter rendering problems and recommends using another Python setup in that case. The reviewed README does not establish macOS support, so do not assume there is a Mac build. Check the repository README for current downloads and setup instructions.

Camscan is useful to consider when you already have a computer-connected camera and want software for detecting pages, separating book spreads, and exporting image files or a PDF. It avoids the need to buy a scanner solely to try camera-based capture, but that does not show that its results match a flatbed scanner, document camera, or phone scanning app.
