To earn “No, You Still Can’t Win” in Mortal Shell 2, reduce the Tar Golem to zero or its minimum health threshold during the opening tutorial fight. The encounter is missable: guides report that New Game Plus skips it, so there is no later rematch to use for cleanup.
What the trophy requires—and when to earn it
The trophy is tied to the first Tar Golem encounter in the prologue. Nerd’s Chalk’s August 26, 2026 guide says the trigger is reducing the Golem’s health to zero or its minimum threshold. A second guide also describes defeating the tutorial boss as the requirement (PowerPyx trophy guide).

Treat this fight as your deadline. PowerPyx lists the trophy as missable and says New Game Plus begins at Marrow Keep, skipping the tutorial. Nerd’s Chalk likewise says that if your Shell is severed before the Golem is finished, the trophy is forfeited on that save. Do not count on returning to the arena later.
Does defeating the Golem change the story?
No. Nerd’s Chalk reports that the same scripted arena ending and Harros cutscene follow, and the story continues toward Marrow Keep. It also says Vatra’s Seal can be collected from Harros’s petrified form after either outcome. The reported difference is the trophy: lowering the Golem to the required health earns it; losing normally does not.

How to prepare for the Tar Golem fight
Nerd’s Chalk recommends arranging your loadout and entering with healing and Resolve ready. Its combat advice is guide-reported rather than independently tested:
- Roll through the high leap. The guide describes this attack as unblockable, so do not try to guard it.
- Learn the other attack timings. Use Perfect Guard where appropriate, and alternate primary and sidearm attacks.
- Consider a defensive, break-focused approach. Build Break Damage, parry melee attacks to set up Stone Stun and Riposte, and use Perfect Guard against the four-hit spinning sequence.
- Expect less predictable patterns near 30% health. Nerd’s Chalk says the Golem’s pattern becomes less predictable around that point; avoid relying on a single memorized sequence.
Reported ways to reset if the attempt is going badly
Nerd’s Chalk reports two ways to try to avoid a normal defeat. These are not verified guarantees; timing, platform behavior, or patches may affect whether they work.

Fall off the arena before your Shell is severed
The guide says jumping off the arena edge before the Shell is severed can cause a fall death and reset you outside the bone gate. If you try this, do it before the loss sequence has fully played out.

Nerd’s Chalk reports that PC players can press Alt+F4 as the losing cutscene starts, relaunch the game, and choose Continue to return outside the arena. The guide presents this as a save-avoidance workaround, not an assured recovery method.
