Morgan Stanley Expects Tokenized-Equity Trading in Q1 2027

Morgan Stanley’s reported target for tokenized-equity trading has shifted from the second half of 2026 to Q1 2027. The timing remains an expectation, not a confirmed launch.

Morgan Stanley is now reported to expect tokenized-equity trading on its alternative trading system in the first quarter of 2027. That is a revised target attributed to Amy Oldenburg, the firm’s head of digital asset strategy, in reports published October 12, 2026—not a confirmed launch date or evidence that trading is available now.

What changed in the schedule?

The reported expectation moved from the second half of 2026 to Q1 2027. CoinNess and Lookonchain reported the change on October 12, 2026, attributing it to Oldenburg’s interview with The Block. The original interview was not located, and the reports do not provide identical wording, so the revised timing is best treated as a reported target rather than a verified verbatim quote or firm launch commitment. CoinNess and Lookonchain reported the update.

Which Morgan Stanley venue is involved?

Earlier remarks identified Trajectory Cross, described as Morgan Stanley’s alternative trading system (ATS), also referred to as a dark pool. Those remarks said the venue already supported traditional equities, exchange-traded funds and American depositary receipts, and that the firm planned to enable it for tokenized equities in the second half of 2026. The newer Q1 2027 reporting concerns the expected timing for that capability; it does not establish that tokenized-equity trading has begun.

Why might the timeline depend on more than the venue?

In a recorded Tokenized podcast interview, Oldenburg described Morgan Stanley’s digital-asset strategy as spanning spot crypto trading, derivatives and digital-market infrastructure, including tokenized assets. In discussing equities, she said the firm was working to activate Trajectory Cross for tokenized trading and raised questions about how a model can operate efficiently and scale. That provides context for the implementation work, but it is not independent confirmation of the later schedule revision. Tokenized podcast transcript

A September 30, 2026 Morgan Stanley Institute roundtable likewise presented tokenization as part of a wider discussion about evolving digital-asset infrastructure and products for clients. It did not confirm the Q1 2027 target or announce a retail tokenized-equity offering. Morgan Stanley Institute roundtable

What has not been announced?

The available reporting and public material do not establish which securities would be eligible, who would be able to trade them, how the tokens would be designed, how trades would settle, or what conditions must be met before launch. The reported target should therefore not be read as confirmation that retail clients can currently buy tokenized shares through Morgan Stanley.
