Beni is a small, self-righting robot that can follow and film you from ground level, or be driven manually from its app or motion tracker. That makes it an unusual camera companion—not a replacement for a tripod, action camera, or drone. Its appeal is hands-free movement and playful personality; its trade-offs include modest per-battery runtime, limited terrain and weather tolerance, a low viewpoint, and a price whose current checkout terms are not established here.
What is the Mondo Robotics Beni?
Beni is a two-wheeled camera robot from Mondo Robotics. It can track a person while moving on the ground, record with its onboard camera, and respond to manual control. It can also right itself after being knocked over, according to TechRadar reviewer Lance Ulanoff’s September 24, 2026 hands-on account. He describes flips and jumps triggered through the app or wearable remote, along with canned animations and sounds rather than behavior learned from its owner. TechRadar’s hands-on review treats Beni as both a camera tool and a playful robot; the latter is part of its charm, but not a substitute for camera performance.

The practical question is whether a moving camera at ground level captures shots you cannot easily get with a static phone or tripod. It may suit a solo creator who wants to move through a scene while being filmed. It cannot provide aerial views, and it does not make a stationary setup or a dedicated camera unnecessary in every situation.

How does Beni follow you?
Mondo says Beni’s follow, film, and play features work on the device without an internet connection. The company’s official product page describes the core functions, while its support FAQ addresses common product questions. Beni can also be driven manually through the companion app or a motion tracker.

Tom’s Guide reviewer Paul Antill reports using follow modes that placed Beni behind him, alongside him, orbiting him, or at a fixed point. He says it kept pace during an e-bike ride in his test, and that it complemented rather than replaced his drone and other cameras. What camera modes, storage, and battery life does it have?
Mondo’s product specifications, accessed October 7, 2026, list 4K video at 30fps, 3K at 60fps, and 1080p at 100fps. They also list 32GB of internal storage and a microSD slot. The official page does not establish compatible card capacity or speed class, so check with Mondo before buying a card if those details matter.

There is a material discrepancy in the published camera modes: TechRadar’s September 24, 2026 hands-on review reports 4K/60fps and 1080p/120fps, which conflicts with the modes on Mondo’s official specifications page. These figures should not be treated as interchangeable or silently combined. Confirm the modes for the version being offered before purchasing if a particular frame rate is important.

Where can Beni drive, and is it waterproof?
No. Mondo says Beni is not waterproof and advises against rain and water-covered roads. Its product tutorial recommends standard wheels for flat surfaces such as carpet, wood, tile, and concrete, and off-road wheels for grass. “Off-road” or “all-terrain” should not be read as a promise of universal surface capability: the guidance does not establish that Beni can handle every rough trail, obstacle, or wet condition.
That makes the surface itself part of the buying decision. Beni’s ground-level tracking is most relevant where it can roll safely and maintain contact with the person it is following; wet roads and unsuitable terrain undermine that use case.

Does Beni require internet, and what about privacy?
Mondo says the core follow, film, and play features run on-device without internet, with footage stored on internal storage or the user’s microSD card. The company describes optional AI editing as the feature that goes online, with permission. These are manufacturer statements about processing and storage; they do not settle every privacy question about app data or the environment in which the camera is used.

Recording locally does not remove the need to consider bystanders, obtain consent where appropriate, and follow applicable rules when filming in public or shared spaces. Apple marks the app developer’s privacy information as unverified in its App Store listing. Google Play also carries developer-provided data-safety statements on the Mondo app listing; neither listing changes the distinction between the company’s on-device claims and how a user chooses to film.

How much does Beni cost, and can you buy it now?
Mondo’s microsite says Beni is live on Kickstarter and lists a 31% off “Super Early Bird” standard combo, but the captured page does not state a dollar amount. Tom’s Guide reported an early Kickstarter price of about $549 and a planned $799 retail price on July 20, 2026. TechRadar reported a $799 price and expected October 2026 delivery on September 24, 2026. Those are dated reports, not confirmation of today’s checkout price, current stock, or completed delivery. Check the campaign or seller directly for the current offer, shipping terms, and availability; the available reporting does not verify Amazon stock.
Mondo’s Beni microsite is the company’s stated campaign destination and includes a warranty statement. Read the current warranty and delivery terms before placing an order, particularly if you are buying a crowdfunded product rather than an in-stock retail item.
Who should consider Beni—and who should skip it?
Beni is most compelling for someone who wants a camera to move along the ground while they move through a scene, and who values a characterful robot as much as a conventional camera accessory. Antill’s e-bike outing illustrates the sort of use case it can support, while his conclusion that Beni complemented his camera kit is a useful way to frame its role.
- Consider it if you often film yourself moving, can use it on suitable dry surfaces, and find ground-level tracking more useful than a fixed tripod shot.
- Look elsewhere or wait if you need aerial footage, reliable use in rain, extended continuous filming without battery changes, or confirmed camera modes and retail availability before committing.
- Check first if you need a specific microSD compatibility, accessory-camera fit, or warranty and delivery terms. Mondo says an action-camera mount is available for accessories under 200g and warns that taller accessories may affect video quality; it does not establish a named camera compatibility or mount standard.
Beni has an appealing idea and a distinctive way of making solo filming feel less static. The case for buying it depends on accepting the limits of a ground robot and verifying the current offer and specifications that matter to you.
