Modern Warfare 4 Secure Boot: Requirements, Checks, and Setup

Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 are required for Modern Warfare 4 on PC. Learn what to check before changing firmware and how to verify compliance safely.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For Modern Warfare 4 on PC, Activision requires both Secure Boot and TPM 2.0. Secure Boot is enabled in your PC’s UEFI/BIOS firmware, but the right steps depend on the computer or motherboard model. Before changing firmware settings, check that Windows uses UEFI boot mode and the boot disk uses GPT; then follow your manufacturer’s instructions and verify the result with Activision’s Secure Attestation Wizard.

Why Modern Warfare 4 requires Secure Boot and TPM 2.0

Activision lists Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 as requirements for the full game on PC. Its Beta guidance also says players missing either requirement are restricted from online game modes. These are separate system features: Secure Boot helps ensure that only trusted software loads during startup, while TPM 2.0 provides hardware-based security features. Activision says both support RICOCHET Anti-Cheat and system integrity. Activision’s security requirements and setup guide and its Modern Warfare 4 PC specifications list the requirements.

What your PC needs before Secure Boot can work

Activision’s published requirements include all of the following:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Windows 10 version 22H2 or later, or Windows 11.
  • TPM 2.0 enabled. Depending on the system, it may be called Intel PTT, AMD CPU fTPM, or be provided by a discrete TPM chip.
  • UEFI boot mode rather than Legacy/CSM mode.
  • A GPT boot partition rather than MBR.
  • Secure Boot enabled in firmware.

Activision lists Intel 8th-generation or newer processors with Intel PTT and AMD Ryzen 2000-series or newer processors with AMD CPU fTPM for TPM support. The feature still must be supported and available in the specific PC’s firmware. The game’s PC specifications separately list Windows 10 64-bit with the latest update as a minimum operating system requirement; those specifications are stated as valid for launch and may change.

Microsoft describes Secure Boot as a requirement for Windows 8, 8.1, 10, and 11, but that does not mean every existing Windows installation is configured to use it. The firmware boot mode and disk partition style matter. Microsoft Learn’s Secure Boot overview explains its Windows role.

Check the current setup before changing firmware

Do not switch boot modes or attempt an MBR-to-GPT conversion simply because Secure Boot is off. A Windows installation configured for Legacy boot or an MBR boot disk may stop booting if firmware settings are changed without preparing the system. Activision warns that incorrect BIOS/UEFI changes can cause problems, including boot failures.

  1. Identify the device. Find the exact PC model, or the motherboard model for a custom-built desktop. Locate its official support or manual page before entering firmware settings.
  2. Check TPM in Windows. Press Windows+R, enter tpm.msc, and press Enter. Activision says the TPM status should indicate that it is ready for use; check that the specification version is 2.0.
  3. Check boot mode and partition style. Use Activision’s Secure Attestation Wizard to identify whether the BIOS boot mode is UEFI and the boot partition is GPT. If either check fails, consult the manufacturer’s instructions and Microsoft’s supported guidance for the exact configuration before making changes.
  4. Use the manufacturer’s firmware procedure. Follow the official instructions for the exact PC or motherboard to enter UEFI/BIOS and enable Secure Boot and TPM. Labels and menu locations vary, so there is no safe universal key sequence or menu path.

Enable Secure Boot using the PC or motherboard maker’s instructions

Once you have confirmed the model and checked the prerequisites, use that model’s official support documentation for the firmware procedure. Activision does not provide one universal set of BIOS steps because firmware interfaces differ. Do not guess at settings or change Legacy/UEFI mode, partition format, or firmware options without confirming that the manufacturer’s instructions apply to your system.

If the PC is unfamiliar or the relevant options are missing, stop rather than experimenting. Activision recommends contacting the hardware vendor when TPM or Secure Boot cannot be enabled. A TPM may already be built into the platform as Intel PTT or AMD fTPM, so a separate module is not a universal solution.

Verify the result with Activision’s Secure Attestation Wizard

After restarting into Windows, run the official Call of Duty Secure Attestation Wizard to check the system rather than relying on a setting’s apparent state in firmware. Activision’s support page lists wizard version 1.2.0, updated September 16, 2026; the version may change.

  1. Download the ZIP from Activision’s TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot support page.
  2. Extract the ZIP and launch CODSecureAttestationWizard.exe.
  3. Accept the terms and run the scan. If Windows requests authorization for enrollaik.exe, follow the wizard’s instructions for the authorization prompt.
  4. Use the reported result to identify the specific check that needs attention. A compliant result means the wizard’s listed security requirements are met.

What the wizard’s failure categories mean

Wizard result What it indicates Next step
TPM not enabled TPM is not enabled or recognized as required. Check tpm.msc and the manufacturer’s guidance for Intel PTT, AMD CPU fTPM, or the supported TPM implementation.
Secure Boot not enabled The Secure Boot check is not passing. Confirm UEFI/GPT prerequisites, then use the model-specific firmware instructions.
Boot partition not GPT The boot disk does not meet Activision’s listed GPT requirement. Do not change partition style casually; use the supported procedure for the existing Windows installation and device.
BIOS boot mode not UEFI The system is not currently booting in the required UEFI mode. Do not simply toggle Legacy/UEFI; first confirm the disk and operating-system configuration using official guidance.
BIOS firmware update recommended Activision says the current firmware meets minimum security requirements, but an update is recommended and may be required in the future. Check the exact model’s official manufacturer support page for firmware updates and instructions.
Authorization key failed The wizard’s authorization step did not complete; Activision describes a UAC prompt for enrollaik.exe. Follow the wizard’s official authorization instructions rather than bypassing the prompt.
TCG Event Log failed The Windows event-log check did not pass. Activision advises restarting and applying the latest Windows update.

For any result that persists, use the exact error’s instructions on Activision Support and contact the PC or motherboard vendor if the required setting remains unavailable. Download firmware only from the official manufacturer page for the exact model.

What if Secure Boot or TPM cannot be enabled?

Some systems may need a firmware update, while others may not support the required configuration. The appropriate remedy depends on the specific PC, motherboard, firmware, and Windows boot setup; the official guidance does not establish a universal fix. Ask the PC or motherboard manufacturer for model-specific help instead of resetting TPM, changing boot mode, converting partitions, or installing a generic TPM module without confirming compatibility and supported steps.
