What kind of world does Minecraft Dungeons II have?
Xbox Wire describes the sequel’s setting as contiguous, fixed and interconnected, with dungeons. That means areas link together and exploration is encouraged, but the world remains designed and bounded by the game rather than freely shaped by the player. In a GamesRadar+ interview published June 17, 2026, creative director Måns Olson likewise said the team was purposefully not calling it an open world.

So if “open world” means a continuous setting to explore, the game has some of that feel. If it means a broad, unrestricted world where players choose their own routes and activities with minimal structure, that label overstates what has been described.
How is it different from the first Minecraft Dungeons?
The major change is how the adventure is arranged. Xbox Wire says the first game used discrete missions; the sequel moves the action into a contiguous, interconnected world dotted with dungeons. It is a shift from separate mission spaces toward connected locations, not a move to an unlimited world.

Is it like the main Minecraft sandbox?
No. Minecraft’s official description presents Dungeons II as an action-RPG adventure in the Minecraft universe. Its fixed, curated world is distinct from the main Minecraft game’s freeform sandbox and building loop. Players should not expect the sequel to offer that same unrestricted approach to building and resource gathering.
