For a U.S. buyer spending around $1,000, the LG B5 OLED is the strongest choice for deep blacks and wide viewing angles, the Hisense U7SG is the better fit for a bright room and gaming, and the TCL QM6K can deliver a larger screen for less. Prices and availability vary by size and seller: check the exact model and live listing before buying.
Which TV under $1,000 fits your needs?
| TV | Best for | What stands out | Main tradeoff |
|---|---|---|---|
| LG B5 OLED, 48 or 55 inches | Movies, contrast, and viewers seated off-center | OLED black levels, Dolby Vision, VRR, and four HDMI 2.1 ports supporting 4K/120Hz. RTINGS identifies the 48-inch version as easier to find below $1,000 than the 55-inch version. | Check the price for the exact size, and consider glare in a bright room. |
| Hisense U7SG, 65 inches | Bright rooms and gaming | High brightness, matte screen, local dimming, and four HDMI 2.1 ports. Tom’s Guide lists a 165Hz native refresh rate, Google TV, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+. | Some haloing around bright objects and a narrow viewing angle. |
| TCL QM6K, up to 75 inches | Getting a large screen for the budget | Local dimming, Google TV, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, VRR, and two HDMI 2.1 ports supporting up to 4K/144Hz. | HDR highlights are less impactful than on the U7SG, and viewing angles are narrow. This 2025 model has been replaced by the QM6L, so larger-size stock may be limited. |
These are U.S. examples, not guaranteed live deals. RTINGS says its recommendations were verified for accuracy and availability on October 6, 2026. Tom’s Guide reported sale-price snapshots of $899 for the 65-inch U7SG and $999 for the 75-inch U7SG in 2026; those prices may no longer be available. Check the seller, stock, shipping, and return terms for the size you want.

What to check before choosing a screen size
Match screen size to seating distance
Start with the distance between your usual seat and the TV, then decide how much of your field of view you want the screen to occupy. A 75-inch screen can make movies and games feel more immersive, but it is not automatically the right choice for a small room. If you are choosing between a 48- and 55-inch B5, the larger model may be appealing, but RTINGS reports that the 48-inch version is more consistently available below $1,000.

The B5’s OLED panel can switch individual pixels off, producing deep blacks without the haloing that can appear around bright objects on LCD TVs with local dimming. OLED is compelling in a dim room and for viewers spread across a sofa because it has wide viewing angles. In a bright room, however, reflections and glare matter; assess the TV’s placement and windows before choosing it.

The U7SG and QM6K are LCD sets with local dimming, which can improve contrast by adjusting areas of the backlight. The U7SG is the brighter-room alternative in this group and has a matte screen, though its viewing angle is narrow and some haloing is possible. The QM6K prioritizes screen size per dollar, but its HDR highlights are less impactful than the U7SG’s. RTINGS also lists the Hisense QD6QF as a low-cost option available in sizes up to 100 inches, but it lacks local dimming, has weaker HDR brightness, and is limited to HDMI 2.0 and 4K/60Hz. It is not equivalent to the OLED or Mini-LED choices.
Gaming features that matter
For a current console or gaming PC, check the refresh rate, HDMI ports, and variable refresh rate (VRR) together. A high refresh rate can display more frames per second, while VRR helps match the display’s refresh to the game’s output and reduce tearing. HDMI 2.1 is relevant for higher-bandwidth features such as 4K at high refresh rates, but the number of compatible ports matters if you connect multiple devices.

HDR and smart-TV features
HDR format support is only part of the picture. A TV also needs enough brightness and contrast to make highlights visible, so format logos alone do not establish how impactful HDR will look. The B5 supports Dolby Vision. Tom’s Guide lists both Dolby Vision and HDR10+ for the U7SG; RTINGS lists Dolby Vision and HDR10+ for the QM6K. The QM6K’s HDR highlights are less impactful than the U7SG’s according to RTINGS. All three offer Google TV on the Hisense and TCL models? The B5 interface is not specified in the cited comparisons, so compare the installed apps and interface you need on the exact model before purchase.
How to verify a deal before buying
- Confirm the full model name and screen size in the listing; prices and availability can differ substantially between sizes.
- Check the current price, seller, stock, delivery cost, and return terms. A review-site sale price is a dated example, not a promise of a live offer.
- For the QM6K, verify that the listing is actually for that model rather than its successor, the QM6L. Tom’s Guide says the QM6K is a 2025 model that has been replaced and that the 65-inch size was easier to find than larger versions.
- Match the port count and refresh-rate claims to your devices. Confirm whether the features you need are available on the ports you will use.
- Check that the screen and stand dimensions fit your furniture and intended placement before ordering.
