Craft concrete stairs and slabs in two stages: make colored concrete powder from four sand, four gravel, and one dye; place the powder block in full water contact to turn it into solid concrete; then craft the concrete into the shape you want. These shapes are documented in specific testing releases, so check your edition and build before relying on them in a stable game.
Check that your Minecraft version has concrete stairs and slabs
Mojang’s Java Edition 26.3 Snapshot 7 notes list concrete stairs and slabs for all concrete blocks. Mojang’s 2026 feature-testing article also describes the shapes in all 16 colors, but frames them as features in development: Java snapshots had them, while Bedrock beta and preview availability was described as coming soon at the time of publication. Those statements confirm availability in the cited testing builds, not across every stable edition or platform. Check the update notes for the specific build you are playing.

In a build that supports the shapes, Survival players can craft them; Creative players can also take them from the Creative inventory, according to Mojang’s feature-testing article.
Make concrete powder in the color you want
Use a crafting table to combine four sand, four gravel, and one dye. The dye determines the powder’s color. Minecraft has 16 concrete colors, and the official feature article describes stairs and slabs in all 16.

Concrete powder is affected by gravity, so it can fall if placed without support. Plan where to place it before converting it.
Turn the powder into solid concrete
- Place the concrete powder as a block, either in water or beside flowing water so the water touches it.
- Wait for the powder to convert into a solid concrete block.
- Collect the concrete blocks for the stair or slab recipe.
Full water contact is required: rain and water bottles do not convert powder. Dropping powder as an item into water is not the same as placing the block. These mechanics are described in Mojang’s concrete powder guide.

Craft the concrete into stairs or slabs
Concrete stairs
Arrange six solid concrete blocks of the same color in a stair-step pattern in a crafting grid to make four concrete stairs. The exact pattern and yield are reported by the secondary recipe reference, All Things How’s concrete stair and slab guide; Mojang’s cited pages confirm the powder-to-concrete-to-shape sequence but do not specify this grid or yield.
Concrete slabs
Place three solid concrete blocks of the same color in a horizontal row in a crafting grid to make six concrete slabs. This grid and yield are likewise reported by the secondary recipe reference; the official pages confirm the shapes but do not give their exact crafting quantities.

Use solid concrete—not concrete powder—for both shaped-block recipes. Keep the blocks in the same color if you want a matching set of stairs or slabs.
