Outlook Lite is no longer a working email option. Microsoft says it stopped providing mailbox functionality on May 25, 2026, and recommends switching to Outlook Mobile. Lite was designed for lower-resource Android phones and slower networks, but the launch-era claims about its small size and 1 GB RAM optimization do not establish how well Outlook Mobile will run on any particular older device.
What happened to Outlook Lite?
Outlook Lite was an Android email app, not a separate email service or a phone model. Microsoft introduced it as a smaller version of Outlook for people using lightweight devices or slower network connections. The app has since been retired: Microsoft Support says it stopped providing mailbox functionality on May 25, 2026. Microsoft’s support notice recommends Outlook Mobile for people who want to continue using Outlook.

Is Outlook Lite still working?
No. After May 25, 2026, Outlook Lite no longer provides mailbox functionality, according to Microsoft Support. If the app remains installed, its presence on the phone does not mean it can still retrieve or send email.
Why was Outlook Lite made for low-end devices?
At launch in 2022, Microsoft described Outlook Lite as a smaller app intended for Android phones with limited resources and for slower networks. Microsoft said it was about 5 MB and optimized for devices including those with 1 GB of RAM. Those are Microsoft’s launch-era claims, not independent measurements, current app-size figures, or guarantees about performance on every device. Microsoft’s 2022 announcement explains the original positioning.

Which accounts and features did Lite support?
Historically, Microsoft listed Exchange Online, Microsoft 365, Outlook, Hotmail, Live, MSN, and Google accounts as supported account types in Outlook Lite. That account list describes the retired app; it does not mean those accounts can still be accessed through Lite now. Microsoft also says Outlook Lite did not sync Outlook contacts with the device’s contacts. Microsoft’s support page provides these details.
What should former users try instead?
Microsoft recommends Outlook Mobile, but the available Microsoft support information does not establish its current minimum Android version, app size, or performance on particular low-end phones. Before installing it, check its current Play Store listing on the device you plan to use and confirm that your Android version is compatible. Then consider whether the app’s storage and data use suit your phone and connection; the historical Lite figures cannot be applied to Outlook Mobile.
