Microsoft Defender Antivirus security intelligence update KB2267602 is reported to be rolling out as version 1.459.576.0, according to Notebookcheck’s October 6, 2026 report. However, Microsoft’s Security Intelligence page listed version 1.459.466.0 when checked for this article. Because the two figures differ and the reason is not established, check Microsoft’s live listing rather than treating either build as a universal current-version threshold.

What is the new Microsoft Defender update?

KB2267602 refers to a Microsoft Defender Antivirus security intelligence update. Notebookcheck reported version 1.459.576.0 on October 6, 2026. That is a report of a rollout, not confirmation that the same build is the latest one available to every device.

Microsoft’s Security Intelligence page listed security intelligence version 1.459.466.0, engine version 1.1.26080.3 and platform version 4.18.26080.4, released September 29, 2026, when checked for this article. Microsoft’s listing and the reported rollout version do not match; available information does not explain why. The Microsoft page is the place to check its currently listed version, but a device can receive updates through different configured sources.

What does a security intelligence update change?

Security intelligence updates adjust the information Defender uses to detect threats and work with cloud-based protection. This update notice does not indicate a new Windows feature release or a new physical product.

Microsoft distinguishes security intelligence updates from Defender platform and engine updates. Its documentation says intelligence updates are delivered multiple times a day, while platform and engine updates are released on a monthly cadence. The update types therefore have different version numbers and schedules; the security intelligence build alone does not describe the platform or engine version.

How to check and manually update Defender

Use Windows Security

  1. Open Windows Security.
  2. Select Virus & threat protection.
  3. Under Virus & threat protection updates, select Check for updates.
  4. After Windows checks, review the update status and the security intelligence version shown in the protection updates details.

Microsoft says Defender updates are delivered automatically through Windows Update. A manual check requests the latest security intelligence available through the configured update route; it does not guarantee that every device will show the same build at the same time.

Download from Microsoft’s update page

Microsoft’s Security Intelligence page also offers downloadable files for supported products and platforms, including Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8.1 and Windows Server. Select the package intended for the target system, then check the live page again because its listed versions change frequently.

Why does Windows Update keep offering KB2267602?

Microsoft delivers security intelligence several times a day, so KB2267602 can recur as newer intelligence becomes available. In managed environments, update-source configuration and fallback order can also affect when an endpoint receives a definition update. A repeated offer alone does not establish that a particular update failed; check Windows Security’s update status and the version installed on the device.

What administrators should know

Organizations can configure Defender update sources such as Microsoft Update, Windows Server Update Services, Microsoft Configuration Manager, network file shares, or Microsoft’s Security Intelligence page. The source order and fallback behavior depend on the organization’s settings. Microsoft also notes that the age of installed updates can affect delta-download size.

For administrators who need to clear the current dynamic-signature cache and trigger an update, Microsoft documents these commands:

  1. Run MpCmdRun.exe -removedefinitions -dynamicsignatures.
  2. Then run MpCmdRun.exe -SignatureUpdate.

This is an administrative procedure, not a routine troubleshooting step for every home user. Follow Microsoft’s full guidance before using cache-removal steps across managed devices.
