Micron announced the 4600, a PCIe Gen5 NVMe client SSD designed for OEM systems, on February 18, 2025. Its product brief lists an M.2 2280 form factor and capacities from 512GB to 4TB. Micron targets gamers, creators, and professionals, but the announcement does not establish that the 4600 is a consumer retail drive.

What is the Micron 4600 SSD?

The Micron 4600 is a client solid-state drive using the PCIe Gen5 NVMe interface. Micron’s February 18, 2025 announcement describes it as a drive designed for OEMs and intended for gamers, creators, and professionals. In other words, it is a product announcement for client-computing systems, not confirmation of a retail launch for individual buyers.

What are its form factor and capacities?

Micron’s product brief identifies the 4600 as an M.2 2280 SSD and lists capacities from 512GB to 4TB. Those specifications do not by themselves guarantee compatibility: the host system must support the drive and its interface, and the sources do not establish motherboard compatibility or heatsink requirements for particular systems.

What does Micron claim about performance?

Micron’s product brief includes performance claims covering sequential throughput, random I/O, and application loading. These are vendor figures, not independent benchmark results. Any meaningful comparison with another SSD would need to account for the brief’s stated comparison system and test conditions, as well as matching capacity and workload; the available evidence does not support a completed head-to-head comparison or a general market-performance ranking.

Is the Micron 4600 available to consumers?

Micron includes the 4600 in its client SSD portfolio, which it describes as serving client-computing applications. Neither that portfolio nor the 2025 announcement establishes current consumer retail listings, stock, or pricing. The 4600 is therefore best described as an announced OEM client SSD unless a specific seller and listing are verified.

Micron’s separate 2023 announcement of the Crucial T700 provides context for Micron’s consumer-facing Gen5 products, but it does not show that the 4600 itself is sold through consumer retail channels.

What to check before choosing a system with the 4600

  • Confirm that the system or motherboard supports an M.2 2280 NVMe SSD and the relevant PCIe generation.
  • Check the OEM system’s specified capacity and configuration rather than assuming every listed capacity is available in a given computer.
  • Look for system-specific cooling guidance; the available product information does not establish heatsink needs for every host platform.
  • For performance comparisons, use independent tests with the same capacity, workload, and comparable system conditions rather than treating Micron’s brief as an independent review.
