Which screenshot formats does Microlink support?
The screenshot parameter reference documents PNG as the default request format and JPEG as the alternative. The official API skill reference likewise lists PNG and JPEG.

JPEG quality
Set screenshot.quality from 0 to 100 when using JPEG; the documented default is 80. Lower quality can reduce file size but also reduce fidelity. This setting does not affect PNG output.
How to request a screenshot and read its dimensions
The basic API request is a GET to https://api.microlink.io, with the page URL and screenshot options. The parameter reference shows that enabling screenshot adds an asset object to the JSON response. Use its returned dimensions and format rather than inferring them from your request: the response also includes the asset URL, byte size, and human-readable size.

Set viewport.width, viewport.height, and, if needed, viewport.deviceScaleFactor. The screenshot product page illustrates a 1920 × 1080 viewport at deviceScaleFactor 2; that is an example configuration, not a maximum or a guarantee about output dimensions.

At deviceScaleFactor 1, Microlink says one image pixel is rendered per CSS pixel. This can reduce output bytes, but an image may look softer when viewed at full size on a high-density display. Larger scale factors create more image pixels for the same CSS viewport and can increase the resulting asset size.
Viewport, full-page, and element captures
- Viewport: captures the browser’s visible area. Its dimensions are related to the configured viewport.
- Full page: the
fullPageoption captures the entire scrollable page, so the output can be taller than the viewport. - Selected element: selector-based capture targets a visible CSS element, so its output dimensions depend on that element rather than the whole viewport.
Page geometry, capture mode, device scale factor, and any composed frame can all affect the final asset. Microlink’s browser frame guide notes that a frame and background can be composed around a capture. Read the response’s actual width and height when sizing or laying out the resulting image.

Does Microlink publish a maximum screenshot size?
The reviewed official references let callers configure viewport dimensions and show example values, but they do not document a universal maximum viewport width or height, maximum pixel count, or maximum output-file size. Do not treat the 1920 × 1080 example as a limit, or assume that any particular larger size is guaranteed. If a capture fails at your chosen dimensions, reduce the viewport or device scale factor and check the returned response and current Microlink documentation.

For smaller output, use a lower device scale factor when its visual quality is sufficient, and choose JPEG with an appropriate quality when transparency and lossless output are unnecessary. Full-page captures can contain far more pixels than viewport captures.

Microlink’s performance guide also describes setting meta: false to skip metadata extraction and using selector-based waits to avoid waiting longer than needed. These are ways to reduce unnecessary work; none establishes a guaranteed output-size cap or a universal capture time.

Microlink’s API overview reports a free allowance of 25 requests per day without a key. This is a changeable plan detail; check the current API overview before relying on it. The same page publishes a 2.8-second screenshot P95 and a 99.9% SLA on paid plans. These are Microlink’s own service figures; the page does not state a publication year. Confirm current paid-plan terms and scope directly with Microlink rather than treating vendor-published metrics as an independent benchmark.
