Add a short invitation and your channel’s direct membership link to the livestream description. YouTube recommends adding /join to the end of your channel URL, then placing that link in a video description. Keep the offer accurate: explain what joining supports, name only perks you actually provide, and give viewers a clear next step.
How to add the membership pitch
- Check the offer. Confirm that channel memberships are enabled and that the perks you plan to mention are currently available. YouTube describes memberships as monthly payments in exchange for creator-provided perks. YouTube’s channel memberships overview explains the feature.
- Create the direct link. Copy your channel URL and append
/join. YouTube says this takes viewers to the channel’s membership window. Do not guess or invent a channel URL. See YouTube’s membership promotion guidance. - Edit the livestream description. In YouTube Studio, open the livestream’s details and add the invitation and link to its description. Put it after essential stream identification or viewing information so the pitch does not displace information returning viewers need.
- Save and check the public page. Review the public watch page and test that the link is legible and opens as intended. For a scheduled stream or one with format-specific metadata, check the actual watch page rather than assuming every viewer interface renders it identically.
YouTube presents description placement as a way to promote memberships, not a requirement to include a pitch.

What to write
Make the exchange understandable: viewers pay monthly for the channel’s membership perks. YouTube gives badges, emoji, early access, and members-only content as examples, but your wording must reflect the perks you actually offer. Its membership tips recommend explaining what memberships are, why you offer them, and what members receive.

YouTube’s live-format feature information distinguishes horizontal live streams from the vertical live feed. The table below reflects what YouTube lists for those formats generally; it does not guarantee how a particular account, stream configuration, or viewer app will display its description.

See YouTube’s live-streaming format information. A description link is a useful route to the membership window, but the Join button may not be visible to every viewer. YouTube identifies possible reasons including memberships not being enabled, viewer-region availability, a video being marked made for kids, and platform or eligible-watch-page limitations. When the issue is platform-related, YouTube suggests trying the channel homepage or the /join link in the description.

Should you include membership prices?
Usually, avoid a fixed tier price in an evergreen 24/7 stream description. YouTube cautions that prices can vary by platform and country or region; a static amount can therefore mislead viewers or become outdated. If you do state a price, verify that it is accurate for the audience and have a process to keep it current. You can instead direct viewers to the /join page to see the available options.
