One reviewer reported a useful shopping search, but that is a single experience—not proof of dependable performance. Meta describes security safeguards while acknowledging that Muse can make mistakes, and reports of a message-access incident leave important questions unresolved.
What can Meta Muse actually do?
Meta introduced Muse on September 8, 2026, describing it as a personal AI agent powered by Muse Spark. According to Meta’s launch announcement, people can message Muse in a dedicated app or through WhatsApp, ask it to handle tasks, and let it continue working after they close the app. Meta’s examples include sending email, booking travel, filling out forms, negotiating online, and making purchases subject to user approval. Those examples describe the product’s intended capabilities; they are not independent evidence that every task will succeed.

The useful distinction is that an agent is meant to take actions across websites and services, not simply generate a response. Meta says Muse can keep working in the background and resume when a task changes or needs approval. That can reduce manual effort, but it also makes it important to understand what the agent can access, what it is doing, and where a person must review or authorize an action.
One reported shopping task
In a TechRadar hands-on account, reviewer Eric Hal Schwartz asked Muse to find shorts. Muse asked for his size, browsed for several minutes, returned options, identified a sale, and requested his Amazon login before proceeding. Schwartz found the delegation pleasant but was not comfortable granting extensive account access. This is one reviewer’s reported task, not a controlled test of accuracy, consistency, or safety.

Can Muse buy things for you?
Meta lists purchases among the tasks Muse is intended to handle, but its announcement says purchases are subject to user approval. In the TechRadar example, Muse found options and a sale, then asked for login credentials before it could proceed. The account does not establish that Muse completed a purchase. Treat it as a shopping assistant that may carry a task toward a decision—not as permission to buy without review.
Before approving a transaction, check the item, seller, price, shipping details, and any recurring terms yourself. A task’s progress or a persuasive recommendation is not a substitute for confirming the final action.

Is Meta Muse safe to connect to your accounts?
Meta’s security engineering post describes an isolated runtime, separate credential storage, scoped connector workers, and Sentinel, which Meta says decides whether connector actions and network access are allowed. The company says approval requests appear in the client interface and that users can observe or take over the browser. These are Meta’s descriptions of its design, not a guarantee that every safeguard will work perfectly in every situation.

Meta also states plainly: “Like any AI system, Muse will sometimes make mistakes.” That matters more for an agent than for a chatbot because a mistake may affect an account or cause an action, rather than merely produce a misleading answer. Meta’s post quotes Simon Willison describing the “lethal trifecta”: access to private data, exposure to untrusted content, and the ability to communicate externally. The combination can create risk if an attacker tricks an agent into exposing private information.

More access brings more exposure
Connecting additional services may make Muse more useful because it can work with more of the information and tools a task requires. It also gives the agent access to more sensitive data and authority. TechRadar’s reviewer described discomfort with granting broad account access even after finding the shopping search useful. Connect only services needed for a task, and review the permissions and approval prompts before proceeding.
What went wrong with Muse reading messages?
Tom’s Hardware reported that journalist Jason Aten said Muse referred to context from messages he had not authorized it to read. The report says Muse attributed its knowledge to incoming notifications on the Mac app, an explanation Aten questioned. The account does not establish the underlying technical cause, nor does it prove that all users’ messages are accessed. It is a reported, unresolved incident—not a settled finding about the service’s behavior for everyone.

Tom’s Guide also reported that researcher Karan Joshi extracted internal instructions describing an hourly process that could create “a page for every person in the user’s life.” The article says Meta pointed to controls for deleting memories, disconnecting external services, and viewing an activity log. The report concerns extracted instructions and reported controls; it does not independently verify how the system operates in practice.

Meta says it can continue tasks in the background after the app is closed, then resume when a task changes or requires approval. That persistent work is part of what makes Muse an agent rather than a conventional question-and-answer assistant. It also means users should pay attention to pending tasks and approval requests rather than assume that closing the interface ends all work.
