These rankings are the guide’s published recommendations, not independently reproduced raid simulations. Mega Starmie debuted in a Super Mega Raid Day on August 22, 2026; check the in-game raid schedule before planning for it as an active boss.
What is Mega Starmie weak to?
Mega Starmie is a Water/Psychic-type boss. The raid guide lists five weaknesses and six resistances:

- Resists: Fighting, Fire, Ice, Psychic, Steel and Water.
Build around attacks of those five effective types. A Pokémon’s type alone does not determine its usefulness: its moves, strength and ability to withstand the boss’s actual attacks matter too. Pokémon GO Hub lists Mega Starmie’s possible fast moves as Water Gun, Psywave, Tackle and Hidden Power, and its charged moves as Hydro Pump, Surf, Psychic, Psybeam, Power Gem, Ice Beam and Thunder. A counter that is vulnerable to the boss’s chosen moves may need more frequent revives than one with a more favorable matchup.

The following are the top five counters in Pokémon GO Hub’s published ranking. The order reflects that guide’s recommendations; it does not establish that every attacker will perform identically against every boss moveset or raid group.

Use the strongest suitable options you already have rather than assuming that a lower-ranked attacker will always be worse in practice: the boss’s moves and your team’s survival affect how long each Pokémon can deal damage.

How to prepare for Super Mega Raid mechanics
Super Mega Raids add a shield-breaking role to ordinary counter selection. Pokémon GO Hub’s guide says Mega Starmie can become enraged and raise shields that sharply reduce incoming damage. When a shield activates, a Mega Pokémon from a Trainer’s raid team is automatically sent in, and its next attack is strengthened to help break the shield. Once enough shields are broken, the boss returns to its normal state.
- Each Trainer needs a Mega Pokémon on their team, according to the guide.
- The guide says each Trainer can break one shield.
- Primal Pokémon cannot break these shields, according to the guide.
- The guide states that the raid requires at least seven Trainers. Treat that threshold as the guide’s stated requirement, not an official threshold confirmed in the event announcement.
For shield-breaking, the guide recommends bringing your strongest available Mega and names Mega Sceptile, Mega Mewtwo Y, Mega Tyranitar, Mega Mewtwo X, Mega Chesnaught and Mega Heracross. This is a separate planning choice from selecting your main weakness-targeting attackers: bring a Mega for the shield mechanic, then use counters suited to dealing damage outside that moment.

The event announcement warned that Super Mega Raids would require teamwork and might appear only at certain Gyms. It also said a new web-based map would make it easier to find nearby Gyms and Power Spots. The official Pokémon GO announcement contains those event details.

Pokémon GO Hub lists Mega Starmie’s maximum CP as 4,184, with 276 attack, 229 defense and 155 HP. Those are boss-form stats, distinct from the post-raid Starmie catch ranges.

When Mega Starmie was available
Mega Starmie debuted in Ultra Unlock: Starmie Super Mega Raid Day on August 22, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time. That event has passed, so its ticket and raid bonuses should not be treated as currently available. The official announcement listed extra raid XP, an increased chance of Rare Candy XL, up to six free Raid Passes from Gym Photo Discs, an increased chance of Shiny Starmie, and Mega Level 1 unlocked for Starmie caught from those raids. A separate optional US$4.99 event ticket offered its own time-limited bonuses, including up to 14 Raid Passes and guaranteed Rare Candy XL for successfully catching Starmie.
